I think a certain someone is not going to soon forget the amount of heat he got at the Dome for the amount of time he had to be dragging that reservoir! You know I do think I passed a guy scrubbing his windshield and giving me dirty looks on the way up Friday night! Don't remember seeing any constabulary except Parks & Forestry personal. Ebear took FAR more pictures than Jerry. That helmet cam of his is so small I didn't know I was on candid camera until WAY too late. Currently trying negotiate with him on cost to keep those pics OFF the web but I don't think the boy can be bought, much to my impending shame.  Vik there's always next year! | ||

Hey Unibear!!!!Glad to see you and everyone else made it home safely!!Had to get 'TBEAR'to the airport at 5:00am so the 2 hours of sleep didn't do much but what the hell!!,it was about as much as Friday night! So what all is your bid up to for ownership of all Video Evidence???I can be bought,sometimes cheaply!!I dont think any of the superlatives I have in mind could do justice to these 4 days....To have my Brother,some of my best friends,some NEW friends and the incredible Ferris and Denise friends to hang with for this time will be a highlight only matchable to a few events in my lifetime.I can only hope that if this happens again next year that the entire Laguna contingent can make it also....Jerry and I have talked about some changes we could do next year and if they happen,LOOK OUT BRAG....We'll be able to teach THEM a few things about incredible event planning!!Again THANKS!!for all whom attended and helped make this just WAY TOO COOL!!(I'm a little slow on the pic posting since I had to sleep sometime but they will follow along with a few 'on the road videos)...See ya'll!! P.S. I just talked to Travis and other than a 3 hour layover in Denver and the incredible McDonalds emmisions passenger he too has arrived safely in Guffey,Colorado....Thanks Travis for showing that lonely X1 a great time!!!She puffed a sigh of exhaust just now just for you!    | ||

Great pics Jerry! Once again, a great job organizing and pulling this off. Wish I could have been there, the sights are spectacular, thanks for posting. I'm sure the comraderie was just as great. Looking good for the homeward bound.... Ebear I know you & Jerry will cook up something but it seems to me the only way to improve on this weekend would have been for me to have started with better tires!  But then again PLEASE TRY. As far as the Video Evidence goes I'm toast because I can't even bid cheap at this point.  | ||

BIG thanks to Ferris and Denise for hosting the riding highlight of my year. I did the BRAG No Winen and Buell Homecoming events too, and as good as they were, they just don't compare to the lower Sierras. I think I saw only 1 LEO all weekend. And I think we had to make only 2 group illegal passes all weekend. The roads were OURS for the taking. Great roads, great scenery (but who had time to look given the speeds we were going), great people, great beer, great bikes, bad tires......oops, coulda left the last one out. Between Splash (otherwise known as "Tire and Wheelfest 2003) and Oktoberfast 2004, we're getting pretty darned good at changing sport tires out there on the road. New Oktoberfast rule for next year: If you don't KNOW you have at least 1000 miles on your tires, you have to at least bring new ones with you (now that Ferris has all the tire changing gear there....we donated your tire irons to him, Glen). Oktoberfast is very hard on tires Oh well, it gave us gear heads something useful to do other than just drink. We were pretty good at drinking too, though. It was a whirlwind weekend that was over too fast. And Shawn's shock reservoir notwithstanding, we didn't leave any hard parts (or body parts  ) out there on the road and had no breakdowns. For as fast as we were going on the very technical roads we were on, that's saying something. This was a very good group of riders that rode within their limits. Great meeting Mike, Glen (unibear12R), and Bruce (rreater) out there on the road. Sorry you couldn't make it, Charlieboy, we'll get you and your aridzone buds up there next year. ForgeDog here, A mongo thanks to F&D for making the second annual OktoberFast one of the high points of this year! It really was fast in both senses of the word. My head was spinning when I showed up a work Monday morning and all I wanted to do was get back up into the mountains. What a contrast of driving through Sequoia NP and Nowheresville on 395 in the same day. Al Lighton proved thrice again that he is selfless when it comes to helping fellow bikers in need. With his quick thinking and action, three bikes kept on the road and kept the shredability quotient of the group to the requisite high level. Jerry is also willing to help a fellow biker who is down, but that is a different story altogether. The dinner and breakfast at the Montecito Lodge was included in the price so the cost of staying at Sequoia was actually quite low. Totally cool place. There was even a Hurl Deck attached to the main cabin if anyone felt so inclined. I would post pictures but Jerry has already done a superlative job and mine would merely be redundant. Thanks again for opening your home to us ratty bikers. Oh yeah, the Tube bikes definitely held their own. (Message edited by reindog on October 12, 2004) | ||

thank you all for the kind words (and Blake, VERY cool how you stitched the General Sherman pix together - thanks!) well, just like last year me 'n D find ourselves moping around the 'Dome today muttering "I miss Oktoberfast..."  what made the gig so special? the quality of the people involved, pure and simple. i'll just leave it at that. and in that vein, i just mailed off a money order to Stone Mountain H-D/Buell in the amount of $312.33, to help Torqer and Shred get back on their bikes after their recent shunts at BRAG's "Runnin' the Ridge" Adventure Ride. this money was donated by the participants of Oktoberfast 2004, and represents 100% of the donations we received (and includes the $ from recycling all the beer bottles from the weekend). i guess it goes without saying that i really appreciate the generosity of the folks who invaded Ferrisville this weekend, and i hope that their kindness and compassion helps a couple of fellow BADWEB'ers get their lives back in gear. again, kudos to everyone who attended this year's shindig - sure wish Oktober came more than once a year. This is from Joanne (who doesn't have her own badweb account). She drove the truck from Ferrisville to Montecito, carried all the luggage and such so that all the riders could be on their bikes lean and mean. She also carried two full coolers of BEER to the cabin. And because she brought the truck up there, it made it possible for Mike, Glen, and I to blast an hour down to Fresno and back to pick up 3 tires and some irons to get Mike and Glen back on the road with fresh tread on their rims. 3 cheers for Joanne!! Her text follows: Wow – what a trip! I really enjoyed putting names to faces, and getting to know the group better. Thanks for putting together a terrific ride, and thanks for your wonderful hospitality, Jerry and Denise! I was really impressed with the spirit of the ride. Having been on other rides where the participants feel a need to prove their prowess (and sometimes cause accidents as a result), it was great to hear the post-ride banter not focused on “We could have gone faster” or “I almost lost it on that corner” but instead on “that was the best ride I’ve ever been on.” The fact that each of the participants could have gone faster is a given (they’re all experienced), but that’s not the point in a ride like this. I attribute much of this spirit to Jerry’s pre-game ramble (thank you!!!!) and the pace that he set (he knows these roads, when to take it easy and when to wick it up), but also to the participants themselves. It takes a bit of maturity to not try to pass the lead guy or put pressure on him (or to put pressure on the sweep into going out of their comfort zone). End result? A great experience for everyone involved. Zach and Laurie and I had a great time up there! Zach enjoyed riflery, went fishing (well, for minnows at least), canoeing, paddle boating, swimming and jacuzzing, tried out some wall rock climbing, played lots of ping-pong, and went to Grant’s Grove, all in less than 24 hours. He was one happy camper! Montecito Lodge is definitely family-oriented. They were very accommodating and flexible, with LOTS of activities! We didn’t get to the archery range, tennis courts or mountain bikes, or do much hiking but maybe another year. Horseback riding was not available at this time of year (if we were there a week prior, we could have enjoyed that as well). Our time there seemed way too short. I’d love to spend a couple of days up there, and include some more short motorcycle rides in the park. I wish more S.O./families were there - this place is way too cool for the families to miss out on!!! Denise, let’s ride together next year. We’ll take our sweet time, and really enjoy it… I’m sure Laurie would enjoy riding on the back of Tom’s, and Zach can ride on the back of the Al's S3. Joanne, you don't know how much i appreciated it when you thanked me for bringing everyone back safely. Bomber, as i was short on time due to my ride around this great country with JB2, i simply edited down a portion of last year's speech, which follows. it ain't fancy, but when you've got the kind of people we had this weekend, you don't need much. i also spoke of the two riders who went down during "Runnin' the Ridge" last month, and of Daryl Levesque, the rider who died during the Torquefest last year. talk like this, before anyone ever swings a leg over their saddle, has a way of sobering you up in a hurry. we talked of cold tires, cold bodies, unfamiliar roads, and unfamiliar riding partners. and how any and all of these, and any of a number of other distractions, needed to be dealt with for the ride to be successful. and i REALLY stressed, several different times, riding within each rider's individual limits. and respecting those on the roads with us, whether on two wheels or in four. again, this group didn't need to hear any of this - they knew it all already - but it never hurts to talk about it before the group heads out. and sometimes, it DOES hurt if you DON'T talk about it. thanks for asking. ---------------------------- RELEASE - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Welcome to Oktoberfast 2004! Oktoberfast is NOT a race, timed event, or competition. You are expected to ride safely and legally, and within your individual limits, at all times. There is no onus to ride at, or anywhere near, the limit of your particular abilities, and no one will think any less of you if you choose to ride at a pace that might be considered “slow”. We will wait and “collect the troops” whenever necessary, especially at any turns which take us in a new direction, so there is no need for anyone to ride faster than their normal comfort level in order to “keep up”. If you DO become separated, you’ll have detailed route sheets and maps in your possession. It is expected that you will ride so as to protect YOUR safety, the safety of your fellow riders, as well as the safety of the general public. Passing vehicles should be done in a safe and courteous manner. If you’re passing another motorcycle, PLEASE give them plenty of room. No passing on the right, please, and no passing in corners. Check your mirrors often. If you’re holding someone up simply ease to the right of your lane and motion them by with your left hand. It’s okay to go around another rider if you’re not happy with where you are in the pack, but please remember to pass safely and courteously. As I did last year, I’m asking several favors this weekend. First, I ask that you not pass me during any of the formal, “organized” riding during Oktoberfast. This is for your safety. I know the roads we’ll be riding, and I will set a pace that hopefully everyone will enjoy. Second, I ask that you consume no alcohol or illegal drugs during any of the riding that we do this weekend. There will be beer and partying aplenty each evening when we’re done riding, but I cannot allow the consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs while we’re riding. There is too much at stake. I agree to hold harmless everybody involved in putting on Oktoberfast for anything that may happen this weekend that might cause me pain, anguish, suffering, or loss of income. I posted this in the other thread in the quick board, but since thats probably going to get archived I want to do it again. Ferris & Denise THANK YOU for the hospitality and everything else, that was the best ride I have ever been on by far, but the best part was at your house and at the cabin hanging out. You guys rock. If it was not for Al at American Sport Bike I never would have been on the best ride of my life because of the shock thing. I dont know how the hell it happened but I do know that a last minute desperate call to Joanne and all was well by the time I went to bed. Al brought me a shock from one of HIS bikes, and put it on for me and went through my bike for me to make sure everything was cool. ( his tech ability is famous for those that dont know him). Him an his wife went way above and beyond the call not just as business owners but as friends as well. All weekend at stops he looked over things and answered hundreds of annoying questions from me. (those that know me will believe that). Anyway thanks bro I cant say that enough. The camaraderie at Oktoberfast was great, everyone there was so cool, I cant wait until next year. PS- Ferris- what you gave me when I left is going to keep me on the road for a good time that I would have been down- (I have two kids remember). So you know how much that means- I owe you big time. | ||

Aye, you never pay back, you only pay forward. To all of you Oktoberfasters and especially the Host and Hostess, thank you for the pics and words. I was very bummed when I realised I wasn't going to be able to make it up there. I am definately looking forward to the next adventure and all that I have experienced in the last few weeks has reminded me that its people like those on this board that can get together and be there for each other to help when its needed. I too already miss Octoberfast and look forward to next year's edition. When I arrived home Sunday nite I posted this in the Octoberfast thread. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Octoberfast is Past All made it to the Dome safe & very, VERY, happy. We needed THREE tires, changing two at eight thousand feet ( mine by headlight!). It was great to meet you RR, cool thing for you to do. I was the one rolling in late & slow nursing the shredding tire. My fault thinking that I could get 2k miles out of a Dunlop 207. NOT!  Great weather. Great friends. Great ROADS! Best damn ride I've ever had. I learned that my boots scrape before the peg feelers do, which everybody pointed out was due to the size of my feet. On the other hand Viros is 20 mph faster than me do to how aerodynamic his boots are! New tire already scruffed to the Metzler elephant. Thank You Jerry & Denise who are great hosts. Special thanks to Al who is a great guy. Thank you everybody else for making it such a great ride.  Looking forward to everybody's pics Let me know when any of you want to go ride! | ||
