Hey Brian, I asume you don't have a user manual? I'm at work and so I don't have my manual at hand, otherwise I would have typed it up for ya. Search the forums though, it's full of threads about suspension and I've typed up the factory settings before. Here's a recent thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/75762.html Search and ye shall find Ingemar. |

I'm in your weight category. Tires make a difference also. I'm running Metzler M1 (a bit softer in the rear) both tires at 36lbs. I used to put the softest setting in the rear, but that didn't work well with M1s. My settings for my XB9S/R Low: Rear: Preload: 2 (notch from the softest) Compression: 2 1/4 Rebound: 2 Front: Preload: 6 (lines visible) Compression: 2 Rebound: 1 3/4 The front preload is a 1/2 line less than with the stock Dunlops to offset the rear/front tire difference. M1s lower the front axle height by 7 mm, in comparison to the stock tires. |

M-1's lower the front axle height by 7mm. Any idea how much the M-1's raise the rear axle? Thanks. Mike. |

DC - That looks like a VERY soft setup... I could be wrong though, I don't have my book in front of me. |

XB, It's a relative 7mm. You can say that it raises the rear axle height by 7mm in relation to the front axle, in comparison with the stock tire setup. M1, Yes, I live in a city with many potholes. The preload is the recommended setup - I softened the compression and rebound only. (Message edited by dcmortalcoil on October 06, 2004) |

Any thoughts on 12R for suspension settings. My is set up on factory settings as I have only covered 250m. I feel suspension is to hard at rear especially. It feels hard enough to launch me out of the seat, something I expect from my Ducati's but not from a Buell. All suggestions appreciated. |

Triton, My factory or dealer settings on my 12R where setup on the heavy side for the rear and light on the front. I followed the manual and reset everything for my weight. It made the rider better. |

Dcmortalcoil. Thanks, now I get it, I think. The rear M-1 obviously has a higher profile than a 207 rear, but the profiles of the front are pretty close (to the naked eye). And that's why you increased the front preload (1/2 line less showing). I think I need to adjust mine as well because I didn't change it when I switched to the M-1's. Thanks again. Mike. |

Most of the time preload is given like this... Front - Number of lines showing Rear - Lowest preload is one, highest is seven. Higher is when the collar is pushed towards the spring. Damping is generally given as number of turns out from seated. The second adjuster for the rear damping is located at the bottom left side of the damper. |

Brian Just give me a call today, I can talk you thru it. Once you've done it, it's easy. Let me guess, the dealer didn't go thru any of this with you when you picked the bike up? Dave 1-920-757-1651 ask for Dave in the sales dept. |
