WEll, I did the 1000 mile maintenance myself and kept the receipts. The only thing left is the TPS reset. I did have some questions and observations though. 1. To check primary chain, we removed the spark plugs and rotated the rear tire (on stand). Is this the easiest/correct way? 2. I had about a half rice kennel of metal stuck to my oil plug mag and a half a pea size on primary plug mag. Is this okay? 3. My gas mileage seems to (upper 30s)have taken a plummet. I smell gas idling but my spark plugs looked clean. O2 sensor? or TPS reset. I bought the thing in NM and loaded up to mile high Denver. Would altitude from a set up in NM to being ridden in Denver and Mts. affect it? 4. I had alot of oil on top of cyl heads coming from around the opening on the vents. Good, bad, normal? Thanks guys. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but confidence from reading the posts here have helped immensely. (Message edited by raraf on October 04, 2004) |

Just pulled front plug on a friends 12R and there was a little oil leaking past the breather seals on both heads. Nothing major....pretty normal in my opinion....Odie |

there is no need to remove plugs to turn motor over. metal on drain plugs normal- break in. ride the bike at same throttle for ten miles at 3250 rpm's and it will reset for the altitude. you can use some hylamar (sold at dealership)to seal gaurmets. |
