yep...wouldn't even mess with it. just throw a bunch of greenbacks towards colorado and get the 88inch monster motor. it is amazing what crusty brushes and a crank seal can lead to!! good luck in your adventure and keep us informed. philip ps...hello roadrunr. did you finish the patio and pool area? how are the kids? later.. |

Philip, it sounds like Hoot's pretty much on top of crank seals and all that left-side stuff--why not just take your bike over to his house & let him do it?? rt ducking and running... |

well..let me think.. aahh no. i do believe he should do your bike first and if everything works out i might consider it! i can't imagine how tight the crank seal would have to be jammed into the crank bearing to cause the motor turn over slowly. it must be the starter. i have the parts to do mine i just need to get going and do it no matter how long it takes. and i agree with chadley, the thrills in the hills was a lot of fun last year. i hate that i will miss it. nest year for sure. later...philip |

If I damaged the bearing, I did it while removing the old seal. |

i read a recent account about how hard the metal backed seal was to get out. is your new seal the all rubber one? i still think it would be hard to hurt the bearing bad enough to cause the starter to drag. like you said it, the brush problem more than likely toasted the windings. |

Hoot... I can't imagine how you could have hurt the crank bearing unless you pointed a screwdriver in there and started pounding. I seated that bearing too far on my Cyclone, only rubber touches. It will eventually chew through the rubber and you will have a new crank seal failure (takes about 4000 miles :/ ), but it should not hurt the crank. The seal is a royal PITA to get out without chewing up the cases, even the new style seal. |

"Hoot... I can't imagine how you could have hurt the crank bearing unless you pointed a screwdriver in there and started pounding." Umm... I wasn't very gentle removing the old one, and I did use a screwdriver stuck behind the seal. And I did beat on it. I CAREFULLY inspected the bearing though, and I do not think I touched it. We'll see. |

Hoot, I did my oil seal with a screw driver(with a home made heated and bent in a U shape), and an oversized socket! I seriously doubt you screwed up a bearing. |

Sorry to scare you hoot! I meant to be kidding. I meant actually pointing a screwdriver into that bearing and pounding away, not whacking away at the seal. Be careful when you seat the new seal, if it seats in too far, it will rub against the bearing, and get a hole chewed in it after about 4000 miles. Don't ask |

It's ALIVE!!! <evil laugh> I still have a little lifter noise, but it hasn't been started in a while. I turned the motor over a few times by hand, so I've probably just squished all the oil out of them. |

Hey all, I'm considering moving to Austin and would like to get opinions about the riding/roads in the area, as this is one of my major considerations for a new home. Also, any info about cool places to go, live, hang out or whatever is appreciated. |

Austin is a nice place. It is the closest major city to the best motorcycle roads in the state. I don't live there, so I can't tell you much about the night life. |

Skeenix, Austin has some of the best nightlife in the country. If you are single you will be in heaven! very low cost of living and lots of things to do. Nice weather but gets really hot in summer! As already said some really great twistie roads within 100 miles. |

That was after two, before I made the fateful decision to have another. They were flavored, and I quote from the bartender here, "Just enough to make you keep drinking them" They were made from really expensive Tequila and a little bit of peach juice. Jeff? Sorry, he left about an hour ago... |

Nawww Hood was cold and fogged in. We were going to head north and see if we could catch a glimpse of St. Hellens before she blew again, but about 15 minutes into the ride Sabrina related the rear of the seat to the skinny end of a baseball bat padded with a doiley. Quote "I'd ride 100 miles on the back of the Buell before I'd get back on that thing" I tried to keep momentum on that by getting her to sit on the back of the CityX and showing her how soft that seat is when we returned the HD but she wasn't having any of it... DARN! Ended the day one up 26W to 47N through Vernonia, then 202W to Scappoose, then 30S to Cornellius Pass Road back Home. Check it on MapQuest, make sure to zoom in, some nice twisties, but I was more in it for the cruze... http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&formtype=search&countryi d=US&addtohistory=&country=US&address=&city=Vernonia&state=OR&zipcode=&historyid =&submit=Get+Map |

"That was after two, before I made the fateful decision to have another. They were flavored, and I quote from the bartender here, 'Just enough to make you keep drinking them'." Ohhh...Where am I...? I managed to down five of 'em this year...then we started in on the tequila, fresh squeezed lime juice and Cointreau. I was correct in assuming that the morphine they had me on last year was nuthin' compared to Carl's Hell-born concoction! 'Course he's laughing the whole time 'cause he can't drink anything with citrus in it due to allergies. I think this is his revenge... Had a great time this year at Twisted Texas and Thrills IV. Missed you Houston guys. Pics coming soon! How do I get an invite to El Ranchito Chingadero? |
