Did they do the inside as well? Looks like a quality job. Now don't forget the pic of them back on the bike! (Message edited by glitch on October 01, 2004) |

They did the inside on mine. The black is more expensive by ~$20 than the silver. Mine was $153 including shipping and took about two weeks total from when I sent it out to when I received it. I'll have to snap a pic of mine (not on the bike yet...maybe not till winter). |

American Sport Bike sells coated headers for the xb now on an exchange basis for 169. They are on their website. Don't know if it is jethot brand coating or not. |

It cost $117 including shipping one way with the internet 10% discount. They do inside and out. It took a week & a half. I bought a second set of headers off of eBay so I'd have no down time. I don't think I'm going to have enough time this weekend to put them on, but as soon as I do I'll post a pic or two. Maybe we can sell & resell my spare header amongst ourselves so no one has to have down time. |

Looks pretty slick. That may make it on to my winter project list. Anyone have pictures of the black coating? |

If anyone wants a similar coating in the UK, then you can get it done by CAMCOAT in Warrington. Cost me £85 to get my headers done in the Cermakrome (same as the sterling silver finish above) finish and turnaround was one week. If coating new, unused pipes there are a huge range of colours that you can have if the need takes you.. (Message edited by trojan on October 02, 2004) |

Darthane - I like the black too. Take a pic when you have it on the bike. I'm going to try to get mine on this weekend, but I have to read the shop manual first to see how involved it is. It doesn't look like a quickie. The local HD emporium is having a picnic with live music today so I may spend the afternoon over there. |

Wow, the black looks really good. Did they require you to do any prep work to the header first? My header has already been polished. Mike |

I have a friend here in SC that does coatings and powder coatings. I'm getting ready to get mine done. The good thing for me though is I don't have to pay shipping :-). The black may be more expensive but it keeps the outside temp cooler. So the bling bling comes at a price. The website is www.mpcoatings.com |

I wonder if the silver coating will keep the right lower leg a bit cooler in summer? |

From all accounts, HPC (hypercoat) are the go if you want the same thing done here in Australia... Same deal, the black is dearer. The outside only of the muffler is about $50-60AUD and the headers (in and out) about $150AUD in the shiny gear... They'll do the inside of your muffler, too, but it's not advised if the muffler is packed. They usually have ads in AMCN. I've been told by a guy who uses them they are a better quality finish than other companies he's tried. |

Opto - Jet-Hot claims that the header will give off much less heat. I'll let you know. |

No, you don't have to do anything special to prep them. They strip them of any existing coatings (according to their info, anyways). Just have to be in sound mechanical condition. |

Most powder coating shops ceramicoat as well, and most lawn furniture repair shops powder coat. I used to work at a shop that did powder coating and its real simple. So don't really worry about someone messing it up. Anyone who is good at powder coating can ceramicoat just fine. SO find a local shop and decrease your turn around time. |

Jguy/Darthane...How difficult was it to remove the header? I want to do mine black this winter and don't want to have a big mess getting it off and back on. |

-=shrugs=- Haven't done it yet. I got a header from Daves to replace mine, and haven't put the new one on yet. The service manual has you doing the engine rotation, but Jerseyguy and at least one other went a different route, removing the rear shock and fan and getting at the O2 / header bolts that way. |

Darhtane, that looks extra nice. Found a shop not even a half hour away from me. Looks like I'll have a black one as well. Now, if I can just find the time, I've got a list of things I need to get done. |
