Ortegakid, The TFI is awesome!!!! I'll post connector part numbers on the TFI thread tomorrow for electrical connectors from NAPA(which you might need to refer to if the wrong connector is installed on the TFI for the 02 sensor). xbolt12 |

Installed it sunday, stupidly easy,no wiring innacuracies, set it up as suggested, works great!,will be riding to work this week, test it out fully, but for now, seems awesome! and I'm using the race ecm, etc, etc, etc. |

i have a 9 with race ecm and was told it would be best to put the stock ecm back in. Let us know how it works with the race ecm. |

I'm very, very interested too. Maybe I'll buy a TFI 1045 here in the Netherlands |

i dont understand how one of these fuel injection diddlers can work on a vehicle that runs in a closed loop mode most of the time. wont the ecm just sniff the rear cylinder exhaust via O2 sensor, and then compensate by leaning out the entire fuel map? that is the job of the ecm right? |

The 1045st interacts with the O2 circuit as well, so that the computer won't keep trying to work against it. |

If I understand correctly from the discussions above, doesn't the 1045 sit inline between the ECM and the O2? If so, Fullpower, there's your answer. The ECM only sees what the Techlusion output provides; injector pulsewidth and the like are based upon that signal. Chris |

might it be simpler to use the stock ECM map, but shift the whole program approximately 4 or 5% richer by shunting the cylinder head temperature sensor with a bit of resitance, maybe a ten-turn pot? if the ecm thought that it was just 10 ormaybe 15 degrees cooler, it may well provide a bit more fuel at the lower throttle openings. could this simple of a soltion work? |

no scratch that bright idea. the the engine temperature sensor is a negative temperature coefficient design. resistance declines with increasing temp. pin 9 on the grey ecm connector goes directly to the temp sender. possibly one could use a pot to send a little positive bias to pin 9. would not want to get excessive here, this is the same parameter used to run the cooling fan. |

you think air temp is a better thing to mess with than cylinder head temp? i suppose telling the ecm that the air was cooler, therefore denser would cause some extra fuel to be called up. |

IAT is also negative coefficient. sensor runs pin 10 on grey ecm connector. |

After confering with Dobeck,(he is too darn smart), he explained why it should use the stock ecm, will be extensively testing this week, let you know. At this time will be using the race ecm, but may be changing it shortly |

So Kid, what was his explanation?? I'd like to know why the race ECM is considered different to teh stock one, besides the obvious... |

i suppose telling the ecm that the air was cooler, therefore denser would cause some extra fuel to be called up. Yes (in theory), the ecm uses IAT and TPS to determine the amount of fuel, but also reads the O2 sensor in closed loop mode, so fitting a 5k or 10k series resistor inline with the IAT sensor is an experiment waiting to happen. This will make the ecm think the air is colder, but the results are anyone's guess. The new TPS reset/diagnostic software just released could be really handy to observe how the ecm responds as far as fuel trim (AFV) goes. There's a table in the 2004 Lightning models FM on page 4-56 that lists all the resistances and voltages of the IAT sensor at different temperatures. At the bottom of the table is a note stating that all values given are +/- 20%. Makes me wonder if this 20% tolerance might partly explain why some 12's ping and others don't. To keep with the thread, I'm really looking forward to hearing more reports on the TFI as they come in. (Message edited by opto on September 29, 2004) |

If you fool it enough that it thinks it's getting cool air, then the O2 sensor reports you're running rich. What now? |

hmmm, what hen indeed. I think Opto might be onto something with the IAT sensor tolerance thing... But then the whole closed loop deal might compensate for the huge tolerance... But if that were the case, then why would the ECM even need the IAT sensor??? On a side note, the hillbilly boys claim more performance from the FAST system if the IAT sensor is placed UNDER the reflective mat... I suspected when that point was made that the ECM was getting a higher IAT, so leaning the mix out for more performance... Imagine if the IAT was related to the ADVANCE CURVE!!!! Wholly crap batman... We might be able to turn the pinging off with a $0.75 POT!!! Hmmm, the next bunch of dyno runs are gonna end up taking a whole day again... But that won't be until my TFi arrives (just to get back on topic)... |

so leaning the mix out for more performance... Again, the O2 sensor reads a lean condition. I think it's best not to try and fool one sensor, because the others are going to pick up on it and confuse the ECM? Those Techlusion boys sure had their work cut out for them. Ya reckon that's why it took so long to be released? |

"Techlusion" Well guys does this new one here do all what it claims to do.. and not to do as far as making the check engine light come on etc.etc.? So what is the advantage of this on a 12 as well as the 9 can someone fill me in as well as others on this unit? What can I Expect to do NoW that I couldn`t do without it??? And does it WORK 110% as Claimed? Thanks in advance!!!! |

Hogs, No lights so far. Performance is good, see the other threads. Did have one wierd occurance at very low speed crossing speed bumps. Engine almost died and knocked like crazy. Acted like it was in 2nd gear, but wasn't. Rode it hard on the weekend for about 100 miles in the local mountains and no complaints (only occasional mild ping under hard acceleration at warm temperatures). The way I can best describe is smoother power delivery and maybe a littler more hp up top. Acually the difference is a lot like when I put the race filter on with no other mods (xb12), and still had the snorkle on, except it acts like the mods made twice the difference. Trenchtractor: I wonder if fuel pressure could also be playing a roll in why some bikes ping and others don't. Also now that we know Buell can update the ECM for ECO purposes (new thread), how do we know that your ECM is running the same program as US ECM's? Did you get it from the states? xbolt12 |

Opto, How about a active circuit (MOSFET transistor) to fool the stock ECM so us guys with the TFI can remove the exhaust servo when we run an after market exhaust? I suppose I could read up again about transistor theory! Seems like the circuit would need to put out 4-6 VDC on the Hall effect wire to the ECM when the servo control wire goes to low or zero impedance. The same circuit would need to put out 0-1 VDC on the Hall effect wire when the servo control wire goes to very high impedance or open circuit. My guess is this could easily be done using a FET transistor designed for switching (avalanche flow, not linear amp). If I read the diagnostic procedure in the service manual correctly, this should work. Also since the wiring and the harness are already there and supplying +12 VDC and ground, a simple circuit could sit in place of the motor. Whatdya think?? xbolt12 |

I got my ECM with the bike from the dealer. It was returned under warantee 3 months after I bought it for obvious reasons (the ECM, not the bike ). As for the map being the same, the story I got (yeah, yeah, I know all about stories) was that Buell USA were refusing my request to have a decent race ECM map for Aussie fuel on the grounds that it's a race only ECM and not for use on public roads. If I was going to race it then use a suitable race fuel. (Message edited by trenchtractor on September 30, 2004) |

Well, all is great in techlusion land! As little as I've had a chance to ride it,can definately feel a major improvement, would have to say it's the single best thing I've ever done to it.Will be riding in anger this weekend, see how it performs then, but I'm sure it is awesome, have to confer with Dobeck on monday as to why not the race ecm, seems ok to me! |

Good news to be sure! So you're running it with the Race ECM? I bought my bike with the Race ECM, so I've never had the standard one. Please keep us posted. Have fun! |

Dave, as I mentioned on the phone the other day, put me on the list for one... I'm assuming that the one kit available works with either the 9 or 12, right? Steve. |
