Burrpenick asks: Does the round cylinder type key that is used on our machines provide good protection against theft? A key and lock combination is a mechanical device prone to failure - same as a safety on a firearm. Do not trust it as your sole means of protection - same as a safety on a firearm. Any lock can be picked or manipulated to open without the authorized key, as can any safe or security system - any system, some just take longer than others. What works best is to secure your property one step beyond what your most likely typical thief is willing to go to to steal your property. For most of us that simply means removing the key from the ignition. For others of us that means adding a disk lock. For others it also means adding a second disk lock, an alarm system, a Kryponite-style NewYork chain with a non-barrel-key lock and wrapping the chain around something larger than a 3" sapling or something more secure than a parking meter or signpost with the post's securing nut removed allowing the post to be simply lifted out thereby de-securing whatever is locked to it. Nick wrote: "Mostly the sports bike guys hate em." Funny, I regularly see groups of 3-5 riders on various SportBikes with an XB in the group. They seem to fit right in for public road riding. Some call him the Elephant, some call him the snail, some simply know him as someone to be avoided. The thing is he probably just fell asleep at the wheel and woke up in time to get back on his own side of the road, probably doesn't even yet know how close he came to having you as a hood ornament. Hopefully someone tagged his plate number or other identifying features and can track him down to wake him up some. Life goes on - fortunately. Good work on the avoidance, glad you got off lightly. Hey Mikej. I'm in the UK and I've only ever seen an XB at the Buell dealership! Part of the reason I bought one actually. Thanks for your comments. Get this people. Everytime I buy a new bike (once a year atm) it rains. Here in the UK that means nasty salty rain most of the year. It ruins bikes of course. Well, picking my bike up on Thu. Checked the weather on the BBC and it's set to rain heavy one day this week, Thu. May well postpone the collection which will be disappointing, but I like a new bike to look new at least a week or so. I hear a 'fenda extenda' and hugger does wonders for keeping bikes clean, but I don't want to drill the front guard! Take it easy. Nick |

One of the pins sprung out in the mech and I couldn't unlock it. My dad turned up (in the middle of the city) with a really noisy grinder and ground the thing off. No one said a} word! |

Fireman Jim is heading west for home, Dave and Company are flying home and I am sitting in the Lobby of a Motel in Salt Lake city doing the lundry ready for depature for NC tomorow for the Running The Ridges event assumeing the Mountains have not blown or floated away. Hey Paul welcom back to the USA lets see if we can make it intersesting, 50 MPH winds and Rain on the salt flats aand one compteitor sore some snow flurrys on the start line as well.(whatever they look like). FMJ as stated above took the non fared MPBF1350 record on Saturday morning prior to the track shuting at noon due to wind. We sat in truck bed on start line, talking and hoping to get another run. About 5 pm offical asked if we are early for tommorow or had we not noticed the day had been canceled and all had gone home. Sunday 1st run in naked gas class only 105 mph exhaust burnt through fuel vent line startving it of fuell at full boost. Fixed and out again but 5 mph short of record so due to lack of gearing options re-dressed the bike for MPS-PBF 1350 got back in line then wind, rain and snow stoped us at lunch time again this time they called the day off at 3 pm. Monday out on the salt at 6:45am can you say cold, but not much wind. 1st run 08:25am 169 and change into impound, talked them into letting us just go and back it up. 09:15am 170 and change avg 169.682 2 nd record to Jim. I am headed down to 4 1/2 mark to get Jim not only am I excited that we had the second record but we now could re class the bike in Gas and go after The Buell Boys Record of 165 and change. Jim is mopping oil of the tank as I pull up, well 2 records and you guessed it a (leaking rocker box Gasket)and we are done for this year. Congratulations to Steve from Ca again a 1987 S1 Thunderstormed, 1 st run in 130 club 138 mph and he was worried if the S1 had enough in it do it, second run 134 so 136 mph Avg, 2 runs and another Buell is in The 130 club. Despite the wind, rain, snow, and unfortunate streamliner crash's ( no major injuries that we herd about)causing delays it was a hoot of a time and I will be back again some time. |

Well,back home after driving through rain,hail and alot of snow covered mountains--what a storm.As Paul said we had the good, the bad, and the ugly at Bonneville.Good--6 runs,2 records,and bike not hurt,plenty of good friends and good to see all the familiar racers(John Noonan,Jack--who needed a pit crew again--,Amo,Choptops rival from RJ racing) The bad,the weather,terrible winds,some rain,and from 80-40 in a day,lost 1/2 of two days to wind delay.(Watched John Noonan do a bakup run in rain and blowing salt so as to vanish from salt after seconds.He ran over 210 in this only to have them fail to get his speeds.)They needed SO MUCH more organization(Bless their hearts) The ugly,after all the controversy over the leathers,Terry Parsley had gone back and forth with the SCTA tech people on how to comply.They suggested he stitch leather panels inside where he had the ventilation holes--which he did.The motorcycle tech inspector at WOS looked at them and said he did not like them.We told him that that was what we were told to do by SCTA and he said-Who told you that.Fortunately Terry can where my leathers.So we are down at the starting line where we see a rider with his leathers duct-taped.After being asked about it he told us that's what they had him do at tech---WTF!!!!Not only did they not mention that to us,but I had a roll of duct tape in my hand making number changes.After all the talk about burn safety how can duct tape be protective??As it melts to your skin??? A BIG THANKS to all the guys that came and helped out,Paul,Glenn(Oldguy),Dave and the Sportster List boys,my fireman buds,Dave and Ken,and Steve from CA.Can't do this stuff with out lotsa help. Now I gotta make my hairdryer put out more boost--need more POWER!!!!Gotta go clean salt.

Hey all, new member here. My name is Dale Murphy and I live in Colorado. I have a 2000 M2 Cyclone that is up for sale which I am looking to replace with a Firebolt 12. Good to see a group dedicated to Buells. Any comments on differences between the 9 and 12 Firebolt or suggestions on mods with one versus the other? |

Bonneville Guys.....HUGE Special Thanks for all the support in my humble endeavor to join the 130 club. A once-in-a-lifetime weekend for sure. Still thinking about the 150 club (the salt really gets in your blood, doesn't it). Having said that, can one of you remember the name of that NOS outfit that had the hypercharger kit? (Boondoggle or Boomerang, something like that) |

Quick question.... is $2000 for a 94 stock KLR-650 in very good shape, 16k miles, a good deal? It would be a second bike to the Cyclone, not a replacement. |

Reep...That is the blue book on the bike. Nada is considerably less. If in excellent condition with some aftermarket goodies, it is a deal. If not, try for $1,500. Incidentally, both KBB and NADA have the model number wrong on the bike. If you check either site, look up the KLX650 A2. |

Slightly OT but I can use all the help I can get from friends/family. My truck was selected as one of three finalists in an "Extreme Truck Makeover" competition. If I win I get a makeover worth over $10K. Needless to say I see this as a good thing although my wife is a little worried as I get no input on the changes. Rocketman, I'm in North Yorks (Knaresborough). My dealer is Eddy's in Leeds. I'm not a happy bueller today, in fact I'm not a bueller at all. Buell have tried to ship me a 2004 XB9S instead of the CityX (so I'm told). So now I have to wait an extra two weeks. I have no bike to get to work on now so I have to use stinking public transport. This seems so unfair. If it's buells fault they should give me a free race kit...... |

I was *very* close to getting it, but decided no. If I got the KLR, it would be a second bike to the M2. But I would still want the M2 to be my primary street bike. And maintaining an M2 with 25k miles on it was likely going to cost me about the same over the next year that I would pay for a new XB over that same period. And then I would have two bikes to store and maintain. So I just could not justify the KLR right now. Maybe after the kids get older and need less of my time. Or maybe if I stumble across some sort of $500 "dirtbike in a bucket" that I can work on when I want or ignore when I want. In the meantime, I bought something else instead. Something translucid. Hopefully they can do the TPS reset and have it ready to be picked up friday. Anyone looking for a well used but well maintained M2 can visit F&S Buell in Dayton come monday. |

Congratulations NHRS on the 1250/stg3 kit write-up in Hot Rod Bikes Nov '04 issue. Made 96HP and a 89.6ft-lbs on a 04 Sporty. Good walk through on the install too for those looking to do it themselves. |

Now that's what I like to see on the BadWeB, a fellow Yorkshire man. Hang in there Nick, and call Buell UK and moan like hell. Your race kit could happen. Who knows. I bought my first S1W from Eddy's, and returned it. I've not called in for a long time now but I hear things have changed for the better since my time spent buying there.
