I don't know the lineage of the tubers with regard to aftermarket stuff and mods. I just have found that the XB's seem to be well accepted. A lot of it still being just bling, but it's there and it's inspiring to the new guy (me). |

The XB's ARE well sorted out. The first one driven off a showroom floor in 2002 is equal in quality, dependability, reliability and performance to the last one that rolls off the assembly line today. Only three recalls ever (kickstand, a wire shorting out on Lightnings, and wheel bearings) on these bikes! Aside from personalizing suspension settings and maybe talking your dealer into fitting one with discounted Metzeler's or Pirelli's out the door, you can take it to the twistiest roads and get the same amount of satisfaction and enjoyment, as far as agility, braking, flickability and lean angle, as Misato and others get out of their tricked-out, megabuck, Monster XB's. Hi Rocket, Not sure what you mean by 'hammered', but given that it's basically a stock 1203cc Sportster motor it's quite reliable. I tend to use all the available rwhp whenever I can. It's not a wheelie or stoppie machine but it can be awfully fun for 500+ mile days in the twisty bits. I'll keep mine. Jim in Santa Barbara |

The XB series only has about 1/4 the aftermarket accessories and parts (at best) compared to tube frame bikes. That may change in time, regardless...I would personally change very little on a street driven XB. |

I have thrashed my S1 until the tires slid and I was panting for air, and seen S2's disappear ahead of me. Those things are sneaky fast. And Buellish is a mean man. |

Not meant to be hammered? Geeeeez. I was bouncing off the rev limiter out at Aaron's place the whole ride, then took a break and watched something like 15 or more dyno runs sorting out the module and carb, beat the snot out of it for 3 days of 6-700 mile/90+ mph days on the way back East. Used 1/2 quart of oil. So Nyah Nyah. 'Course it still could use another 20 hp or so, and it's so pretty I don't want to mess with it. So I'm still trying to buy back my Blast so I can rat-bike it. Speaking of the cafe-racer avatar. btw Sean no offense taken, just yankin' yer chain (oops - belt) |

Thanks for the compliments dudes. I enjoyed that post of mine too. Reminded me of my old days for a while. Mustn't get carried away though, eh! Hammered means exactly what Philly described (no offense taken David - you silly sausage), and if you wish to subject your classic S2 to such wicked punishment, then good on ya. Us Brit's tend to be a little more reserved when it comes to classic vehicles. Don't ask me why. I never understood it either. Yes those S2's are lovely bikes and my comments were not in any way intended to imply the thing is a slouch. Just that you might want to consider cherishing it rather than 'hammering' it. Obviously, that comment will fall on deaf ears Enjoy 'em all I say - to the max. Rocket |

Ferris and JB2 Update...I just got off the phone with Jerry and they are okay but VERY wet...They're at Hillbilly Ed's tonight in KY and are getting lubed as we speak...They sure picked one hell of a time to visit the southeast...I can't wait to hear the stories from Ferris... The plan is for Jerry to be here in St Louis this coming Sunday afternoon to overnight at my house...Anyone wanting to join us for dinner is welcome...Call me at 636.938.3788... We will leave for Cali on Monday morn...Monday eve we will be in Eureka Springs AR at the Iron Horse Stables...Again, we would welcome visitors...Uh, especially female ones (did I say that?)...Tuesday we will head south in AR and exit the state via the Talimena Scenic Byway into OK...Then back up to I-40 for the blast westward...If we have time I'd like to enter Cali through Death Valley, but we'll have to see about that...My eventual destination is the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego...Gotta ride Palomar, prolly on Sunday as I begin the trip east...I want to tour a bit in Cali, maybe up to the Yosemite / Mamouth Lake area before heading east...I'd love to meet up with anyone along the way, if possible... See Ya! Bob |

Does the round cylinder type key that is used on our machines provide good protection against theft? Just saw the Kryptonite U locks for bicycles are easily picked with just a BIC pen, its all over the net and newspapers. Please let me know: penick@nettally.com |

Home, safe and sound in Indiana after being chased out of Kentucky by Ivan. Adventures beyond description... Tomorrow will be the bittersweet end of my journey but Ferris's will continue for another week. I hold the good stuff 'til he gets home and let him tell the tales. Riding adventures are great for the soul! JB2 |

my, my. two weeks on the road, at least another to go. memories to last a lifetime of lifetimes. back home again in Indiana. for me, the first time in IN. singin' along with Jim Nabors in my head all day today. ran to, then from, Ivan for over a week, finally got busted in eastern Kentucky this morning. wet. windy. wild. and wet. Denise, i miss you SO much. seems like i've been gone for a year. thank you for your words (and my words) that were waiting at JB2's when i arrived tonight -- you are me. and i am you. VTC & XOXOXO x infinity. Racerboy, see you - and hopefully some of the rest of the Mob - on Sunday. Neil Peart calls it "The Healing Road." for exactly two weeks it has been exactly that. JB2, my brother, thank you for being a true friend. and a righteous riding partner. i'm thankful for the peace we have each found along our way. Denise, i'm finally westward bound. hugs and kisses and renewal soon to follow. ride to lean, ride to heal, ride to love y'all. FB |
