Actually, we shouldn't be raggin' on those guys. In the middle of riceburnerland they are selling buells and buell products. |

Ingemar- Good point. It's pretty amazing that with all the ragging of Buells we see in the U.S., they seem to be very popular in Europe and Japan. The Japanese do know a LOT about exhaust pipes. IIRC, they developed the theories behind 2-stroke expansion chambers. |

Well the Japanese refined the theory of expansion chambers - DKW and MZ were building two stroke world championship motors with expansion boxes in the 1930's. As with a lot of Japanese "inventions" ,they do tend to take other peoples ideas and develop and refine them. |

Looks like a home built 'still a Norwegian friend of mine had ... I wonder what the extra chamber is good for? Henrik |

Basically I think it has the same effect as with the new sportsters. They have a crossover pipe like that but smaller and longer. I'm far from an expert but shouldn't it optimize pressure for more torque? Does anyone know if it contains valves? (Message edited by Ingemar on September 17, 2004) |

A crossover pipe is used on twins with two separate pipes and mufflers. The two pipes on the XB come together in a collector upstream of the muffler so a crossover isn't needed. Maybe it's more like a "woofer" and a "tweeter"? The two separate mufflers could be more for sound quality rather than performance. It would be interesting to know. |

The kerker pipe for the blast is built like that as well. |

That is a take off of the race pipes that are being run on the race circuit for cars in Japan. Look at some of the import car mufflers and you will see the similarity. Gonen I agree with the sexyness of the header and would love to get just the header made. |

I wonder if the smaller pipe reduces noise by inverting the sound wave thereby canceling some of the noise coming out of the mail exhaust at certain rpms ? Does anyone know if this is made by Arata? xbolt12 |

I think Mr. Xbolt12 is right on the money. I think Micron makes a similar product that attaches to the canister. It was in a Cycle World a couple of issues back in the New Products section. |

BTW-a typo again I meant to say "canceling some of the noise coming out of the main exhaust". xbolt12 |

This is sort of common in import cars. It's sort of similar to what's called a Twin pass muffler. It's mostly for sound purposes. I think we could all be humbled from Japanese engineering. He he! It's even got an outlet on the little guy!
