hey everyone, i took the side primary cover off and noticed the group of chains is considerably loose (not to mention because of the accident that the flywheel for the clutch is all bent to hell and back) anywho...i know i will read up on how to tighten this chain using my service manual, but i wanted to ask everyone here how they do it first, be fore i go and tighten it thanks |

Hi there DJ, Just a note to note that you need the primary cover installed to adjust the primary chain slack. On the bottom lip of the primary cover you should find the tensioner/shoe. One bolt with a lock nut to adjust the tension. Open up the little two-screw cover to check for chain slack, and check it at several places of rotation. Question: I didn't read the post about your accident that I recall, but if it was severe enough to bend the clutch basket/flywheel, then it should have broke the primary cover as well. Unless I'm not understanding what you mean by "flywheel for the clutch". |

DJ, to reiterate what MikeJ just said: without the primary cover installed, the primary chain will have a great deal of slack. Do obtain the factory service manual, you will find a wealth of information there, all of it good. regards, dean |

thanks fellas, and yes the primary cover was smashed to h3ll and back...its the clutch basket im refering to, im just a little slow thanks for the info |

With that level of a crash check your stator assembly for cracks while you have the cover off. Easy to look it over now, hard if it dies while out on a ride. |
