I just picked up a Race ECM for my 2002 M2. In the instructions it says that I need to do a Throtle Position Sensor Reset with a scanalizer. Can I install the part without this, or will this cause my bike to run like crap? Also, is this something the dealer can do quickly or do I need to make an appointment for it? I didn't see anything in the knowledge vault concern this portion of the instalation. |

Race ECM is for a fuell injected bike. Your M2 is a carb bike. |

They have a seperate ECM for the M2 that advances the timing and set the Max RPM at 6800 (Message edited by koz5150 on September 14, 2004) |

Koz, If I remember correctly the M2 race ECM has the same curve as the stock unit but doesn't have the top end "soft" retard. It runs at full advance up to the redline. Just swap it with the stock ECM and you're done. No TPS to zero, just plug and go. (Message edited by bluzm2 on September 15, 2004) |

That's kinda what I figured, but the directions said I had to have the reset done. I was thinking that may only be for X1 and S3 Models since they include the same instruction sheet for each even thought the ECM's have different part numbers. Darn factory is always trying to save a buck.... LOL |

The rev limit on all carbureted Buell twins 196 and later was set at 6,800 rpm stock. The race ignition module doesn't change that; it does change the ingition advance curve. To avoid confusion, one should refer to the ignition control module on carbureted Buells as an "ICM". Just plug in and go is correct. Carburetors RULE!!! Blake ('97 Cyclone) |

Thanks Blake... Once again info I was able to find no where else. I wish I could come across good stock tips this easy... P.S. I also have the forcewinder intake (new style with machined vent whole). I ported the whole as best that I could. When I originaly put it on the bike one of the gaskets had completely plugged the whole. Now that it is all back together I was hoping that the bike would run a little stronger. This spring it mad a dyno run at a mere 64.5 HP. I have a Wylico can underneath the bike but have made no other modifications. Could the bike be running that bad due to not having a dealer tune up in the last 6,000 miles??? I gotta be missing something here. |

I think my 2000 M2 hit over 80hp on a dyno with the stock exhaust and the c/f race air filter. At 64hp you need to check/verify your jetting, timing, and anything else that may be restricting the power curve. It's not unreasonable to assume the timing may be way off. If you are available this Friday afternoon I can bring my M2 to Milwaukee and do a little side by side comparison with your's. I've got the stock exhaust back on mine now. |

I have the 2002 M2 and put a VH cf muffler, Buell race "ICM" and pro series air filter and cover on it. Had it dyno tuned and rejetted. now shows 84 horses at the rear wheel. If I am gentle it gets about 48 mpg now. (Message edited by polekat on September 15, 2004) |

Kaz -- sxomething ain't right with your scoot -- I agree with Mike, and would check the timing first, then go through the jetting and the like . . . . you ain't gonna get 100rwhp with that setup, but you should expect an easy 20 horse or so more tune up pretty much consists of plug points and condcensor, oops, plugs and timing checf, both easily accomplished by yourself |

My stock '00 Cyclone with K&N filter in a Bartel's CF intake made an honest 83 rwhp after dyno tuning of the carb and timing. |
