So I have been looking at the XB9SX that has been sittin in front of my desk for the last week. It finally has grown on me, it rides great and heck why not have a second bike that runs LOL. SO talk to the owner get a slammin price. Now for the smart thing lets look at insurance. First quote from dairy land = 6500.00 (not a typo over 6 large) Call a few other companies just got another quote from Dairy Land = 8,000.00 WTF??? The bike isn't even that much totaled out! Any insurance pro's in the house that can get me a quote? Or at least explain this organized gang rape of a midwest motorcyclist? } |

It's classified as a "SportBike". If it falls over and the owner wants it fixed a dented frame replacement may declare it "totalled". Call StateFarm and get a quote for your car/truck along with your wanted bike, they will not insure a bike alone. Call Progressive also, but I'm afraid if DairyLand gave you two conflicting quotes then you may be in a ZipCodeRedZone. For grins give them a different zip code at least two counties west of the shop's location. I believe XB insurance prices was one of the motivating factors in Bubba's relocation decision. For real grins get a quote for yourself from the same agents only for a 2005 1200 Sportster Roadster. |

WTF?! Now I don't feel so bad about the premium for my tuber increasing 50% this year. It went from $305/year to $454/year. When I asked why it went up I was told it had been reclassified as a sportbike. BTW, Virginia, multiple bike discount, Progressive. |

Mike, My M2 is classified as a Sportbike and im zip now I only pay 800 a year for low deductable an 12 months on. Does anyone know how to get the report or reasons why it is so high? The Ins. co.isn't to knowlegeble why and/or willing to share. |

Sometimes they go by credit reports somehow figuring that a low credit rating relates to accident proneness. Check your credit report and see if anything is negative on there, your shop should be able to run one on you if you are open to having them do so. Call it a pre-credit pre-application request. I'm thinking that the XB frames are part of the issue. Nothing really wrong with the frames, but as a cosmetic component of the bike in addition to being a structural part it has to be a factor in insurance claims. And note, I'm not trying to 'dis the XB frame format, just trying to understand why XB insurance rates are out of line with other bikes. Maybe check for rates for yourself on something like an R1 for a comparison. |

Spidey...Looks like you are headed for paying cash for a bike and getting a Liability Only policy. Not the best, but an alternative that will get you back in the saddle. |

By the way Spidey, that quote was from Dairyland. Well was it a XB9SX? NO Are you 20 years older than me? YES Do you live 10 miles from Detroit? NO Let me know what your quote on a XB9SX is than we can have a fair comparison.} |

Spiderman, Try trying to get a quote for Clinton TWP. It is in Macomb County. When my insurance company found out I lived in Clinton County not Clinton Township(Macomb County) My insurance premium went UP $250!!! I live in B.F.E. Michigan where the doors don't ever get locked and the keys are left in the vehicle. But insurance companies being as they are it probably doesn't matter where you live anymore, not with no-fault and the Michigan Catastrastrific Claims Association Fund |

Just an FYI Progressive doesn't list any of the XB models except the XB9 Firebolt on their site. You have to list the City Cross as a streetsport under 1000cc's to get an accurate quote. |

For all the military people reti. active, reserves, guard you can use USAA. I insure a 01 SUV, 99 Ram, 01 M2, and a 100,000.00 renters pol for only 217.00 a month and I live in Las Vegas, NV. Give it a try. |

I use USAA and get a good deal overall. I have van, bike, renters policy and pay less than 200 a month. That should drop when we go back to NC in Dec (cross my fingers). |

Some things that make a HUGE difference are being under 30, and being single! And I do agree with the Zip Code thing. I lived in one side of Vegas that was considered "high crime" by the ins. company. I used a zip code from the "rich and famous" side of town and got an almost $500.00 drop in rates. I use Geico now on my XB9R and it costs me about $600 a year. Thats being 35, no wrecks, married and had the MSF class. (the MSF class gets ya 15% off) |

My '99 S3 with State Farm just dropped to $291, full coverage. I had asked about what I could do to get the rates down and other than dropping to basic it wasn't worth it. I have base rate on my '97 CBR1100XX for $150. The answer is - move to Iowa, "Is this heaven, no, it's Iowa" |

Spiderman, you are in the same boat as myself, living IN Chicago, my insurance was 890 for a 98 S3T, and when i picked up the 900 monster some companies wanted 3000g's a year for a bike i paid $4500, the main problem as explained by my brooker is the high amount of stolen bikes in large cities, they really dont care if its in a garage or not, your best bet is to look for an indipendant insurance guy who sells for several different groups My 2000 FXDX which cost a lot more than the Ducati/ S3 was half as much for insurance go figure R |
