I think this was from one of the UK magazines. Haven't people around here talked about those bikes being more restricted? Kinda like the Aprilia's are in the US. |

The White Wire trick applies to all International Models. Doesn't do a thing if you buy a race ECM. It actually makes the torque delivery smooth instead of having a huge dip at 3000rpm. I wouldn't cut it, just pull that wire from the plug. It is noticeable but not really worth raving about. There is a story that the emission "wires" were the reason that all demos were race kitted. |

Actually Chuck..aka Easyflier was banned too...never did understand the reason behind his tho. Bucky was just straight up weird. Reminds me a lot of a combo between Corey & 420. Had lots of fictious names, would respond to his own posts with other names..usually something like Mark Sanchez. Just out & out odd. |

Yep, I have the distinction of being banned from Sport Twins. What pissed me off is that a message(s) was posted to me but when I tried to read it I was denied access. Not even an email from the forum nazi that runs it as to why. If he didn't go on a message deletion spree after I was banned the message that damned me might still be found over there. |

According to many I've spoken with the Aust XB9 are noticeably lacking in power compared to the US so the bikes were race kitted to hide it. ! Dealer told me they used to change something on the 03 models for the emissions before they could sell them but he wouldn't ellaborate. They didn't have to do it on the 04 cause the EPA design noise limit was raised 3 dBA. Also helps the dealers sell the kits as they sound and perform so much better. |

Hi, the magic white cable (Nr. 8 on the grey connector at the ECM) is the speed sensor. Out of the speed and the Revs the ECM calculates in what gear the bike rides. The european Emission approvals are driven in a special Speed, Gear, Rev.range and Ridingmodus. Now the ECM is able to serve a low emissionmap in that moment the approvals took place. Cutting the white cable make the system unable to calculate and is a normal thing in Europe. On the XB 9 you feel a big difference in Torque in the midsection, on the XB 12 it looks like that the active exhaust system do an, in that way, good Job so the difference are not so big. I have no Idea if US or California bikes use that way also to lower the Emission in the Testcircle. Jens I think, the european and japan ECM are the same. Australia have a own ECM but use the same more silent Exhaust like the european. The Race ECM dont use the port 8. (Message edited by jens on August 31, 2004) |

Starter...Thanks for the explanation. Sorry to hear the Aussie Bikes are choked up a tad more than the US models. Considering the incidence rate of folks adding the race kit or equivalent to their bikes, I actually think they did you a service by letting you ride bikes equipped with them. No attempts to mislead the consumer there, at least if it was some form of admission prior to the point of sale. Thanks again for the update. |

One bike I know of that was sold exclusively as an Aust version was the 03-04 ZX636R of which there was an Aust Exhaust and ECM and all the advertising media (+ service manual) quoted a decrease in peak power of nearly 5kW in the fine print (it was a little amusing to those that knew to see journo bikes regularly spinning dyno figures greater than the official advertising brochers). Things should get a little better for the bikes over here from now on. Design Rules have been signed off for drive-by noise testing rather than stationary of which the 04 model Buells were one of the first to be complianced under and the reason it is 3 dBA higher than anything else on the road according to the exhaust labelling. I don't think the regulations are as easy as the US for noise, most of the reading I've done says Aust is moving toward the Euro system. Another good outcome is that bikes will no longer be treated differently to other vehicles in this regard and the design rule have been written to also accommadate large diesels, buses which are significantly louder than current day bikes. |
