LOL I didn't look at your profile to notice the year that M2 is lol.Your Tach will do the job perfectly.BTW if you used a S1 dash the size of the gauges aren't the only problem you'd have to relocate your ignition to where your choke is.Just another pain in the arse. |

Can anyone tell me if touch up paint is still available from Buell or not (billet metallic)? Local dealer says no. If it is available, how is it packaged (small bottle w/brush or spray cans)? Any info would be appreciated. Local paint supplier can mix paint and package in spray can, but I'd rather use factory paint if I can get it. TIA, Hugh |

SteveH, I have a bunch of info regarding paint types and methods that I got right from Buell and their PPG rep. To the best of my knowledge, stock paint jobs (other than decals) rarely if ever bubble, so I would think that following their procedures would yield successful results. Ping me with an email to sales @@@@@@ americansportbike, com (formatted to thwart the spambots) and I'll forward it to you. Blake, If you see this, you want me to forward it to you for posting here in a more permanent way? I'll ping you with mail. Al

Ken...I have a one-off dash for the larger gauges that will work with an X1 flyscreen. It's cut from aluminium (but not billit). Interested....ping my email in my profile. |

Is Buell still doing anything about bubbling decals on tube frame bikes? I have a 00 S3 with the letters starting to bubble |

My 00 M2 has the solid plastic 3 dimensional "plates" for the labels, I am surprised the 00 S3 did not as well. Somebody might have put an older tank on there, in which case Buell probably *already did* resolve it with a new tank, and you got the old one. Regardless, if you can get the current decal off there without trashing the paint, you can order the new "decal plates" that solve the problem from Buell for not a terrible amount of money. I think you can do all four plates on the tank for $50 or less. |

Allen, thanks for the info on the touch-up paint. On the bubbling labels question, my 00 S3 has the solid plastic ~1/8" thick "plates" for labels on the tank. Reepicheep may be right about you having a non-2000 gas tank on your bike. |

OK, another paint question. I found a local auto paint shop that can mix paint to order and provide it in an aerosol can. They're not a PPG dealer, but they can match PPG numbers. Trouble is, they can't find a match for the PPG number for billet metallic (36571). Any ideas on how to cross this to another manufacturer? TIA, Hugh |

reepicheep, I do have the 3d stickers, but the letters appear to be bubbling up. |

One of mine did that. Peel it the rest of the way off (before it pops off, it will, I was lucky to actually catch mine while riding down I-75) and stick it back down to a clean surface with double sided tape. |

Has anybody mounted a front fender with the little fairings that extend down the forks to an M2 with non- inverted forks? Do you have a picture? I need to replace my front fender and would really like the style of the X1 or Xb fenders better. My forks dont have mounting tabs on them for a fender that I can see, the fender is supposed to bolt under the fork brace. Please let me know. |

Those fairings are to protect the exposed fork sliders from debris. The USD forks put the exposed portion of the sliders much closer to the road and thus heavier more damaging debris like pebbles and stones that traffic may kick up. They don't add much if anything in the way of aerodynamic effect as they are in the wake of the front tire's leading edge. But! If you like the looks, there is no reason not to adapt the USD fork fender to your Cyclone. I bet you can fashion some bracketry that you can clamp to the forks that will in turn allow you to attach the fender. An easier aproach might be to simple put an X1/S3 front end on your Cyclone. |

Thank you Blake, in light of that (It never crossed my mind until you told me) I think I will go with the normal fender. Until I get those top- notch $10,000 Ohlins forks that are in the back of Motorcyclist this month |

Hiya, Just a quick one, how do you get your tank lid to fit properly on your X1, mine tends to pop up about 1/4 of an inch making the the tank rattle? |

Giraffeman, Make sure you have the 2 tabs on either side of the front of the tank. The tabs should be welded to the frame and secure the cover, keeping it from rattling. I have heard of some X-1's not having those tabs and having the same problem you describe. If they are there and you still get the rattle, I placed a piece of weather stripping (the peel and stick kind) on my tank and it gives a little pressure against the cover keeping it solidly in place. |

I have the tabs but I have 1/2 an inch of the lid higher at the fuel filler. I t seems as if the the lis is too big or distorted. |

Has anyone removed the Buell decals, if they can be called decals, from a XB airbox cover or flyscreen? Did you use heat, alcohol or what? |

Hey... I just had a thought. Several people were talking about how they would have liked the 9sX if it had clear smoke instead of clear blue... Remember somebody here (CaptianKirk maybe?) took a white XB and dyed it orange with very nice results. I think the clear XB is still Surlyn, so it should dye as well, right? What would a blue airbox dyed black end up like? Smoke, I bet. |

Does anyone know if a 98 Lighting tail section/seat can be adapted to a 97 Cyclone???? I think I read once that someone did that and it took SOME work to get it to fit right but can't find it now. |

I have a 1998 Buell S1W (white lightning) I can not stand the solo race seat that came on it!!! I have been looking at the seats off of newer bikes, and I think that the seat plastic, and seat from a 1999 or 98 M2 cyclone might fit on (with a little help) any ideas on what to do to get a seat big enough for my old lady to sit halfway comfortably on the back?? Got the ultimate report on the new frame sliders... straight from the guy that drives the Buell Demo truck. They were loosing a non trivial number of bikes due to damaged tanks/frames. Not unusable, not leaking, but not the kind of thing you want to hand to a potential customer. Since they put on the new factory frame sliders, things have been getting a lot better. Broken mirrors, bent bars, broken signals, broken footpegs are still par for the course, but the frames do great. Just peel off the chewed up slider and slap a fresh one on there. |

Sounds like "Necessity is the Mother of Invention" even at Buell, eh? Frame Sliders are a good thing. |
