I have a slight lag in 3'rd & up right around 5000 rpm where the motor seems to "slow down" - then blast-off around 5500. 12S with HSA pipe, Race ECM, K&N. I know this could be inversion however it is also at the point where the ECM cuts over to open mode. Anyone else experiencing this? Any chance that the kick over is making a lean/rich situation for 500 rpm until it "figures" things out? I do a lot of riding in the mountains so quite a bit of elevation change and it is more noticeable when riding above 2000 ft elevation. Thanks for the input! |

Never noticed anything like that on my 12, except maybe when I ran the race ecm. If you experience some lag with a 12 race ecm try going WOT and see if there is suddenly no lag. The ecm goes into open loop mode according to throttle position and almost independent of rpm. You wack the throttle open, it goes open loop, rpm doesn't matter. |

I thought the open / closed look was based on RPM??? If that isn't the case, why can't one simply re-program the WOT setting to read WOT all the time so the ECM will be open loop all the time - then the PC or Techlusion would be great... Thoughts? |

Do you really want your bike to think it is at WOT when it's warming up at idle? |

you would never be in the adaptive learning mode, so ecm could not compensate for ambient conditons. also you would probably get a MIL and set a tps code. also you would probably have the timing retarded a bit and would not run real well at less than full throttle. |

RPM AND throttle. Opto is correct. Under 5k and engine up to normal operating temp allows closed loop when throttle in or near steady state condition. Except at idle. I believe Opto is the one who put an indicator light to tell when his bike was closed/open loop. |

Point taken. Is this a processor related limitation (closed loop thing) - eg the processor in the ECM cannot "process" enough real-time to compensate for the changes? I do a lot of riding in the mountains (>2500 ft) and the prospect of it being on a closed loop all the time doesn't sit well with me. What's the big deal about the bike ECM running open all the time to set the AF value at 12.8 and just keep it there??? |
