How well does the XB9S race kit work? Are there any benefits or draw backs to it? Does the kit make the bike sound more like a harley compared to the stock muffler? It just isn't loud enough for me at stock. I also want to be able to get this at my Harley-Davidson shop where I work so I can get the discount. And how much better does the bike run with the XB12 air box with the race filter? Any thoughts would help alot. | ||

ALL are a plus. the rust/race can DEFINETLY sounds MORE like a harley but some people still think it sounds like crap. I personally have only heard the kit once and i thought it sounded 1000 times better than the stock can. And the 12 lid DEFINETLY makes the bike snappier. | ||

So do you need to change anything other then the lid? Any other mods you need to make it work correctly? Nothing fancy with a computer? | ||

I just ordered the kit plus the airbox this morning. Been meaning to do it for ages but haven't got around to finalising it. Talking to the local enthusiast on the weekend and he was giving the setup the thumbs up for when he had one of the first XB9S. I think they sound good in a raspy kinda way. Heaps better than stock and better than any inline 4 you'll hear around the place. Hopefully the newer pollished ceramic pipes don;t rust quite as much as the older ones. | ||

The 12 lid is arguably THE BEST mod for the $ The race ecm well....its good for racing and anything above 4000rpms below that its a bit rough. Don't forget to yank the little rubber deal(the snorkel) out of the air intake scoop it helps too,makes the bike a little noisier but makes it a little snappier too. | ||

I have the racekit and the XB12 airbox cover on my XB9R. The racekit has been on for 3 summers and every time I ride I like it it more. The looks you get when people hear you are funny as they look for the harley! The airbox cover AND snorkel tube removed make the motor rev to the limiter and much smoother, especially 4000 and below. Enjoy it! | ||

Apparently my local dealer tells me that K&N are no longer supplying them and all filters must now come from buell/harley??? Whats the difference? K&N £36 compared to Pro Series £67 and different in color see below (Message edited by beast on August 24, 2004) | ||

Mitch, I am to understand you work for a dealer that sells Buell correct? Someone there should be able to answer some questions for you also, if not, call me. I will try to point you in the right direction. There needs to be someone there that can answer questions, maybee that person will end up being you. If you are going to put on the race kit it is all in one part number (muffler, ECM, filter). If you are going to also change to the XB12 airbox lid, that will be another part number. I understood that K&N had a deal with Buell to supply XB9 filters only to Buell for X number of years. Thereafter, K&N is allowed to sell the filter throught their distributors. So I'm thinking that Buell Pro is made by K&N for Buell, and regular K&N filter for sale through the K&N distributors. | ||

when i got my filter in the mail from buell it came preoiled and in a K&N plastic bag. i took the snorkle off and put the K&N filter in the box witht the xb12 aribox top all at the same time. you could really hear the air moving after that. gave it some extra gittyup just by doing this. then i put the pipe and ecm in. just by my bike..... its for sale for $6000 with some fun extras | ||

Is it going to hurt my engine at all to have the 12 airbox on there without a high flo filter. I'm going to wait until winter to install the race kit so I was wondering if it would be alright to install this now. And what am I going to gain by taking out the snorkel? Thanks in advance. | ||

No, it will not hurt it and will undoubtedly help. Removing the snorkel allowed more air into the air box by enlarging the intake path. Pull the airbox off, yank snorkel, replace airbox. 15 minute job at the most. | ||

buell claimed ram air with their design but it obviously is not because the path from the air scoup to box is not a sealed one. therefore, snorkle doesn't help do anything. | ||
