Recently bought a Harley FXDX, and on the way home from Newfoundland i unwelded the supertrap pipe, dealer has been very cool, but asked me what i wanted and due to a lack of experience with the HD line i had no answer, so i look to the group for help
Its a 2000 FXDX, 95 inch, a bunch of engine mods, had a supertrap with about 24 disc's, what else should i be looking at that makes power and is not really loud, also if you know of a black chrome pipe, i think that would look cool, but just plain black is really what i am looking for
let me know what you think, and what your ideas are
thanks
R

Definitely a 2-into-1 setup of some sort. There is some nice high flow not so loud stuff out there.
Post a pic of the bike so we can get a feel for what would look good on it.... : )

CustomChrome.com has a pdf catalog with an exhaust section online to browse through.

Thunderheader is great but i was told its way loud, what about the black chrome deal, i have heard good and bad, looks great but i have been told the color goes away after a few months
Supertrap is my choice, but it broke every weld, and while it makes power, i would hate to have that happen again
Still looking

if cornering clearance is not an issue, the vance and hines pro pipe is tough to beat on a big inch engine. they do drag the pavement when healed over to starboard however.also you will need earplugs for long rides, not too bad around town though.

When I modded my FXDX for the 4th time, we tried a number of 2-1 pipes, all baffled. The thunderheader and pro-pipe had some of the largest dips in the torque curve around 2500 rpm. A few others we tried were worse, and a few better. I was running 11:1 CR, 95", some rad .600" cams, 3d mappable ignition, head work, bigger valves, all the good stuff, etc. I settled on the Hooker 2-1 adjustable stepped header. Had the smallest torque dip and was tuneable. The dip was small enough so the the HP didn't flatten out or dip. Around 2500 rpm is where the 2-1 headers were all seeming to have problems. Jet Hotted it black. Was pushing 121 HP in it's last incarnation.

I'm doing a milder setup this time around, slightly, for reliability, because I'm rebuilding the engine due to a crappy quality camshaft related failure. I'm going back to the stock pipes w/ SEII cans. Should suit my purpose just fine. Aiming for about 105-110 more reliable HP. The only thing more HP in that size engine will give you is a lighter wallet.

I can let them go for a fair price, but I would send them back to Jet Hot first as they have some scratches in them from lying around the garage for such a long time. It's free to get them recoated again, this one time. I can take a pic if you're interested.

Had a Thunderheader on the Road Pig when I bought it, but got rid of it fast--way too loud!

I ran a 2-1 Supertrapp until it was damaged in a crash a couple of years ago. It was much quieter than the Thunderheader and ran just as well (sorry, no dyno charts available to back up that claim! )

I'm currently running a set of stock headpipes with 'Trapp slip-ons. I love Supertrapps!

Hooker exhausts makes a great 2-1 that won't blue and won Cycle Worlds HD exhaust shoot out a few years ago.

I was amazed at how that pipe sounded?

Very quiet at idle but when it was opened up it sounded deadly.

Roger...Not knowing all the details of your bikes set up, you may want to check into whether or not you have to repeat the Dyno Tune process if you switch pipes. You may incur some unnecessary costs if you do switch.

A link full of pure BS. Read a bunch of other crap on there too. They make claims and don't back it up. 200mph at the salt? On what? A 3000cc HD maybe? Where's the dyno charts? Where the specs on what parts are on the bike? The world rides their HDs at WOT? What about performance at partial loads? They're so busy spraying BS about performance while accelerating at WOT that they're forgetting that people actually ride their bikes in an infinitely variable assortment of circumstances.
