OK - I know works offers after market stuff - could use a good review of their stuff. The Crossroads brace is very usefull, upgrading the brakes helps - pads and lines, any other thoughts on the topic? Please post here! - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side!

Aprox.$125.00 for the front & 650.00 to 720.00 (depends if you get the 2 way or 3 way adjustable shock) rear.

Has there been a review on the works shock, I need to upgrade my rear shock badly. I was almost thrown off the track. The turn crew thought my rear shock had died, they told me they were seeing daylight between the track and my rear wheel alot. I had to explain that my rear stock shock was some what on the soft side.

Mmelvis,

The works shock is really nice to have on the bike. I guess that I'm the only one here on the board that has one on a Blast right now. The Works shock can be adjusted just about any way you want to adjust it. Works will build the shock to you riding type and your weight.

The first two pictures show the top of the shock.



The next two pictures show the shock it self. You will also notice your preload and rebound adjustments.


The last set of pictures show the mounting of the remote reservoir and the mod. of the rear tail section




In the last picture it is hard to see the hole that I had to drill in order to get to the compression damping adjustment. The hole is right above the turn signal mount.

Hey Eric,

Looks like I'll spend some time in Texas and then go back in sometime in the summer -- nothing definitive yet on dates and duration.

I believe I'll wear my goggles 24/7 this trip ;)
Right now the wife is more than a bit ill about my going back -- I'd told her I was done and when I said it it was true. I can't do the Dilbert World / Cubeville thing so my options are limited.

I run this on both my bikes and enjoy the difference in feel - smother front end input.
It's an adjustable yoke system, and it assembles nicely and firmly - I red locktighted all the bolts - lol - it does the job!

Regular HD, a heavier person could go up to the 7.5 for a bit firmer ride - but the next step up is too heavy for street usage.

I'm talking about weight. Is it 15W? 7.5W seems really low. The HD fork oil ratings are different than anything else, and I'd like to use some regular old Bel-Ray in my bike.

7.5 is the designation I was given for the middle weight oil for HD, I've even seen a bottle of it at DP, right by the regular - don't know what that translates to in the rest of the world - anyone else - you could always call NHRS, or ask the general kv and let us know - lol

HD only sells two weights 10w which is stock in the Blast and 20w.

I made the mistake of putting 20w in my Blast. I would trying 7.5w or 5w. Stock blast calls for 9.2oz of fork oil ( I think that is right ). I would Run 10oz to 10.5oz. The problem with running heavy weight oil is that it will foam up real bad and it will no longer do its job due to air trapped in it. Lower weight oil will foam up also but the air will escape lot faster.
This is some tricks I've picked up from working on the race team for Tilleys.

Does anyone know off a rear shock off another bike that would fit and offer adjustability with dampening, compresion, etc? There has to be something out there that you can buy used that is better than the stock setup! ...and better than spending upwards of $500.

As yet - No! I'm sure there is a cross reference chart somewhere to find a replacement, but as yet I havent come across it. I'm also sure a shock could be mix & matched up from different shocks, but you'd need a supply of shocks (or cross ref chart) to do that.
Works Performance is the easy solution.

Rear spring tip : Rubber Coil spacer/snubber.... Helps with rebound damping.... IMPROVISE !

Start by getting yourself a shock absorber compression tool if you want to start fooling around.
Make sure it will work on all shocks. Some of the ones advertised say they will, but wont, usually not being able to handle the bigger shocks.They are not that expensive either.

What about just swapping in a shock from an older x1-s1? Aren't those adjustable? I think they may be a little bit longer but I don't think it would throw off the geometry that much... any input?

Aside from being too big, those are PULL shocks. The EXTEND as the swingarm compresses. Absolutely not suitable even if size wasn't an issue unless some serious adapter / bracket was fabbed up.

I just got off the WP Web Site looking for pictures of my Blast. Back in the summer of 2000 they used it for the prototype as prep for my ride to New England. For the next two years I rode on the street and at different BattleTrax here in N Calif. The shock works great and at the price it's hard to beat. I now have one on my S3-T and have used them going all the way back to my Bultaco days in the 70's PS The picture used to be there?
