Sorry I missed you guys this morning. I woke up a little late and didnt leave La Porte until 7:00. I was pushing it a bit on 45 to make some time, about 80-85. Next thing I know I see red and blue lights behind me right after 1960 so I pull over.I get off the bike and take my helmet and gloves off and this guy throws me on the hood of the car! He pats me down and puts me in the back of the car. Leo: Where do you want your bike towed to? Me: Why is my bike being towed? Leo: because you are going to jail Me: Why am I going to jail? Leo: for wreckless driving, as soon as I hit the lights you took off, I was about to have to make you pull over Me: no Sir, as soon as I saw you I pulled over Leo: are you drunk or stupid Me : Im not drunk, stupid I guess Leo: Damn right your stupid! Keep in mind guys this guy was furious! I mean he was PISSED! I guess he thought I was trying to run from him. Leo: where were you headed boy Me: I was supposed to be meeting some guys up the road to go riding with them today and I was running a little late. Leo: does'nt look like you are going to make it today boy I have full respect for Leo's but this dude was extremely pissed at me for some reason. He asked me if I had any warrants and I told him no. He runs my D.L. and it comes back clean. After that ( OK, check this out) he proceeds to give me a speech about what the speed limit is on the north freeway and why I shouldnt run from the cops and how sick he is of motorcyclist haulin up and down his freeway. Then he uncuffs me and gives me my DL back and tells me he is going to give me a break because I dont have any warrants. He lets me out of the car [ by this time I am about to sh$t my pants]and I get on the firebolt and do 60, I mean 60, all the way to 242. I found the Exxox(really fancy smancy up that way)and asked big boy behind the counter if any bikes had just left here. He said "Yea man, about 30 minutes ago, there were bout 8 of em and they went that way." Damn. So I slammed a Red Bull and headed into the forest. I put the race kit on the scooter yesterday so I had lots of fun with it. Headed to Navasota and was hoping to maybe find you guys but no luck. Just made it back to La Porte about 20 min ago. Maybe I can get up a little earlier next time and not almost get thrown in jail at 7:30 in the morning and meet up with yall on the next one. BTW, what route did yall end up taking? |

As it turns out things looked a lot worse when the bike was lying in the street, then it did when we got it home and really looked it over. What looked like road rash on the tail end was only something rubbery that rubbed off. A few inexpensive parts and some paint for the tank and windshield and we’ll be back up and running. Wait, I guess I need to figure in a couple of beers and deluxe burger for RT (you’re a bud thanks again!!). I think we’ll ride it with the scratches till winter, should be back in the saddle on Saturday. B2 |

<<beers and deluxe burger for RT>> Ahem. I'm thinking along the lines of a fat rib-eye and a couple of tumblers of expensive scotch! |

RT, you need to remember the roots of naked bikes and that of the Buell. Grass roots, down to earth, practical without a lot of fluff, which equates to Beer and Burgers. Now if you would have towed and stored a British bike then I could see your request for a more sophisticated and refined meal where a rib-eye and a couple of tumblers of expensive scotch were in order. I will compromise do to your generous actions and willingness to bail out a friend in need………how about a few beers at Rick’s, and I’ll pay the cover charge? B2

B2: Buns, lettuce, tomatoes, condiments and french fries are "fluff." A baked potato and a salad with my fat rib-eye would be "fluff". Meat is protein--one of the basic food groups. Rib-eye = meat. Rib-eye does not equal "fluff!" Expensive scotch is in another of the basic food groups--grain, I think. I'm not sure your counter-offer will save you any money, particularly if you factor in the potential domestic penalties when our wives discover the nature of the pay-off. But, if you insist... rt |

RT; “domestic penalties”, Yes, your right oh wise one. There aren’t enough jiggle things on this planet worth looking at that would offset the price of Domestic Penalties and the wrath of infuriated women. I wasn’t trying to save money per say but only trying to equate or correlate those who ride Buells with the basic simpler pleasures of life. You know RT, if you ride your bike enough miles in a day, a fat juicy burger and a frosty draft beer taste as good as a short car trip with the significant other to dine at an up scale establishment on food that’s over priced. (Somewhere in here is an invitation for a bike ride and food) B2

RT, next weekend sounds great!! You need to let me know when you're ragging on me so I can take you more seriously, otherwise I would assume we're just bantering to humor each other. Bird, I think Kawasaki GREEN would warrant a vegetarian meal if you ever broke down. Which I think means that you're SOL in trying to get someone to help you for just a alfalfa burger, you'd need to through in a case of beer or two stiff shots if it's RT coming to get ya. B2 |

OK Guys I have to ask. Where is this forest ride I keep hearing about. I am from the Beaumont area and curious as to where it is. Road names and numbers would help an out of towner. Thanks. |

HONU, Take Hwy 105 from Beaumont to Montgomery. Once in Montgomery turn right on Hwy 149, with in a few miles you’ll be in the Sam Houston National Forest (very twisty road) continue on Hwy 149 to Anderson and jump onto Hwy 3090 (extremely twisty road) and head North to Hwy 244 at this point you can take Hwy 30 to Huntsville or head back the way you came. Hope this helps. If you’re planning on riding this Sunday and need someone to tag along I would be up for this. Aren’t we all from “Out of Town”? B2M2 (Message edited by b2m2 on August 04, 2004) |

One more thing, the later in the morning you ride the more law enforcement is about. Watch your @*+$!. We need to find a water proof radar detector for motorcycles. B2M2 |
