And they're off. It's R1, no 420, no R1, no 420. Damn, here we go again. 420, next thing you'll be claiming is that you found out this Buell that did "170 mph" had all of "Corey's" crap on it. If someone wants to bash Buell motorcycles, that is their prerogative. A word of advice though, know what the hell you're talking about before opening your piehole. It's quite evident that the Buell basher from R1's link didn't. Also, if someone wants to make claims about crap they have that can add to the performance of a motorcycle, and they don't want to back it up with any proof, they can. So, if Dyna calls BS and wants to call them out, then the accused and their supporters better be ready to stand up or shut up (By the way, when you stand up to defend someone, you had better have proof other than your own mouth). 420, you just can't stand it that Dyna stands up for the right thing and calls BS on "Corey" and that you can't back your little pal up with any proof. And you know something, Dyna's not the only one who thinks "Corey's" claims are BS. |

Have only read the first few posts... but I have to say if everybody bought the "BEST" bike (which is what???, all bikes, some bikes, no bikes????) then there would only be one bike sold. Long live the ability to have a choice. I don't ever feel the need to poop on any bodys bike choice. Any bike is a goood bike. If you don't like a bike don't buy it. If you see one and it offends you avert your eyes. |

Thanks for not sending me hatemail Austin I even put in the title thread "Guess" & then asked who wrote this? But a few folks just read portions of something & jump to conclusions. Im waiting for an apology from the Bus driver. |

>>>I CAN fly and it is really irritating when people like you undermine all my hard work. Jeff: My apologies to aeronautical engineers everywhere. With the qualifier that I am more likely to fly, than some of these claims are to ever be substantiated. By the way, I feel your pain Greg. I TRIED to go to the Yamaha site...nada. By the time I sifted through home audio, keyboards, wave runners, computer peripherals and pianos, I was plum tuckered out. I was trying to build the energy to download ringtones while dreaming of an R1 with a VR motor but couldn't do it. I've hidden a link here for you....loose quite closely at 1996. Remind me to tell you . . . . Court I'm always careful who I argue with lest I have to suck the words back in quickly |

The MT-01 is not designed for the American market. If it was... it would be released in the USA instead of Europe... which is its intended market. |

I saw a Buell shatter the 200hp mark on a dyno today. And I can't fly. |

I saw a Buell shatter the 200hp mark on a dyno today. So you were at Coreys shop then? |

LOL...nah... ...see, when Aaron says he's got a Buell that will pull 200hp or do 160mph, I'll believe him. 420 again, and Corey. Same old, same old. Riding the bike to work tomorrow for the first time in 9 1/2 months. Ahh... |

R1, I do apologize for blaming you for this rant. But perhaps you should wonder why it seemed to fit? |

Umm, what do you want to know? In one configuration, it crossed 200hp at only about 6000 rpm. And it spins a whole bunch higher than that The trick isn't making the power, the trick is making the power and making it live. What I did last year didn't work, obviously, so I'm going in a different direction. So far, so good. We'll see. |

I was wondering if you were catching all this, Timbo. It's almost ready, everything's looking good. Hasn't missed a beat. A couple loose ends and some bodywork to take care of. Be ready. |

See, this I'll be interested in. So, if a Buell can hit that 200hp mark at 6000, and maintain it, what kind of speeds are we looking at. I'm just wondering what this would do on the track. Could this be something to push the Buells up and possibly over the top at the track? |

If I remember right, the discussion a couple of years ago was whether or not a Buell would literally fly at 200 mph? That reminds me Aaron, I have some spare cash in a couple of weeks and a couple of ideas floating around. I need to make a long distance call after you get done with Speed Week. |

Marine: it varies tremendously with the aerodynamics of the bike. Drag goes up as the square of the speed increase, and there's another factor of power just because more speed requires more power irrespective of drag, so power required ends up a cube function to speed. That's a roundabout way of saying there's a huge diminishing return from gaining speed by adding power and aerodynamics plays a huge role. So, for example, say you've got a bike that'll go say 130mph on 76hp, typical of a Buell M2 or XB for that matter. To use a recent example from this board, what would it take to get this same bike to 170 mph? (170 / 130)^3 x 76 = 170hp required Or suppose you have 200hp: (200/76)^.3333 x 130 = 179mph (wow, 30 more hp only buys you 9mph at this speed!) And to get it to 200mph: (200 / 130)^3 x 76 = 277hp required (and it took you another 77hp to get another 21mph) But that's just with those aerodynamics. We went over 200 at Bonneville a few years ago with considerably less power than that. But we had a super slippery fairing. FYI ... lest anyone doubts the accuracy of this cubed relationship ... again, using the 76hp = 130mph reference point, to go say 153mph would require: (153/130)^3 x 76 = 124hp required. Amazing how that works out |

David ... you're exactly right ... keeping both tires on the ground is a big challenge. As is getting traction. Call me whenever. |

Aaron Thanks for bringing all those bad math memories back... I now have a head ache and need to get back into counseling. I wish I had the gonads to even attempt something like that. My hats off to ya. |

Ok.. I'm only gonna say this once.. I regularly have my Firebolt (9R with Race kit and 12 air box) doing 112~120 on average.. and more than a few times had it over 160! And it is a fact that twice I've hit an indicated 201!! All you guys just have no idea how to make a bike go faster.. that's all there is too it.. (Aaron can verify these numbers easily) So put a sock in it already! all speeds in kph (Message edited by blublak on August 09, 2004) |

Aaron, thanks for the break down and math lesson. I appreciate the education provided here, seriously. Let us know how this turns out. By the way, what kind of Buell is turning 200hp? Or is that hush hush right now? |
