Hey BartBaby,
Good to see you on the board! How long did it take you to get to Jerry's place in CA. from Phx?
Jerry sent me directions-I called Brian-he said he's up for it. It's right at the beginning of my Elk hunt so I'm trying to move things around and see what I can put together.
Hey Kobie-what are you doing the 1st week of Oct?
Charlie? Are you up for CA the 1st week of Oct?
Let me know.

AL,

I'm not going to make any promises, firemen never know their schedule till that week, but I'm hoping to make it to Oktoberfast. I'll try everything I can to make it.

Al #2,
If I'm off the weekend of the BBQ you can count me in. Always looking for an excuse to make it out to SD.

All,

An event of my own to brag about. I went to my safety center and asked about putting on a BTX event and guess what? Battletrax is coming to little ol Yuma! My Diablos just arrived today. What a coinkidink?

I'd really like to see who ever can make it come out. I've been told, depending on the turnout, Scott, my safety bubba here on base, is going to look for USMC sponsorship of a BTX series held in Pendleton, Yuma, San Diego, Luke AFB and maybe the fort. Best of service type event. Of course, I'll sponsor all you civilian types in if you'd like to attend LOL. JK. All the events will probably be held near base but not on base. Too much red tape. e.g. ours is to be held at the casino. So come on out and show these ricers here in Yuma what's up! Bart? You listening? You have to make it back for this...

Here's the link. Click on the right side of the page so you can read the flyer...

Jerry,
"that would be an accurate statement"
You be right, I lost a day somewhere, actually,it took little over 43 hours. My best time is 36 hours back in '85. That's just an average speed of 62 Mph, pretty shameful considering I tried to keep it in the triple digits the whole trip.
But if you add the 12 hours I slept yesterday I guess it seems like 3 daze, LOL.
I haven't done any riding here yet, I'm having a few health problems, got a fever at the moment, and I ache all over, probably from that damn wet weather.

Ok, checked the schedule and I'm most pleased. I'll be out in SD for the American Sport Bike BBQ YAY! I'm also off for the http://www.vsiyuma.com/ Battletrax event. I'm also off the weekend of Octoberfast but don't make relief until 0800 Sat morning. I'd have to find someone to cover Friday and Monday for me if I wanted to make a trip out of it. I sure hope everyone else can make these events. I'd like to see you all again. Parting shot. Laurie is doing great. Thank you again for your thoughts...

Bart, get well brotha. Riding sick is no fun!

Bart you seem to be getting your facts messed up! I've never missed a ride that I promised to be on...I've may have suggested a quickie ride on a weekend at the BEGINNING of a week only to cancel when life got in the way, but never have missed a planned EVENT!
If I get the hall pass and commit to it, you bet your a** I'll see the Thunderdome!

Glad to see you made it in one piece even if you did catch a cold. Rest up, drink lots of fluids, and relax those aching bones. God knows you're getting too old for this sh**!

Hmmmmm...... Le'me'see. An extended weekend riding in the California mountains with friends... Sounds good to me!!!!!
Al,
I have access to a trailer that might hold 4 to 6 bikes. You think we could fill up that Diesel "shooting" truck of yours and head to the mountains?

Kobie,
I have no problem with that. If we are to take four to six people-we're going to have to find a bigger truck. Mine holds two comfortably and four if the back two are Brian size or smaller. hehehhehehehhe
But I'm all for hauling up to CA and look at the views.

Warp2, I was planning on trailering to the BBQ also with the Chev Venture Van. I can pull one more bike on the three rail trailer if anyone is interested. Other wise can you guys pack me in also? I'm still working on a place to stay in Temecula.
M1combat, is the KLR running? I'll trailer both my bikes to Sedona on 8/13 thru 8/20 or 21. Im open for AM or PM rides, dirt or Buell any where up north.
I'm working on my schedule now to trailer to the Texas Brag event. Anyone else thinking about going?

On a golf tour in Ireland, Tiger Woods drives his Volvo into a petrol station in a remote part of the Irish countryside. The attendant at the pump greets him in a typical Irish manner completely unaware of who the golfing pro is. "Top of the mornin' to yer, sir" says the attendant.

Tiger nods a quick "hello" and bends forward to pick up the nozzle. As he does so, two tees fall out of his shirt pocket onto the ground.

"What are dey den, son?" asks the attendant.

"They're called tees" replies Tiger.

"Well, what on de good earth are dey for?" inquires the Irishman.

"They're for resting my balls on when I'm driving", says Tiger.

"Feckin hell", says the Irishman, "Dem boys at Volvo tink of everything!"

How's everyone doing? I'm going to be in Phoenix on Labor Day weekend. I'm supposed to drop my bike off on Friday the 3rd and hopefully will have it back either late that day or first thing Sat morning. It's having that first 1000 mile svc on it. I'm gonna let Chosa's in Mesa do the work. Crossing my fingers. Anyone up to maybe showing me a few places to ride on Sat the 4th?

I'm bringing the family and we'll be staying in a hotel there somewhere, Friday and Sat night. Wife's already made the reservations.

Hey Guys,

1st day back at work after 26 days on leave. I forgot how much a 48 hour shift SUCKS! And I'm only half way through it! Much rather be riding through the mountains with you Kobe...

I don't know if I can go yet but here's my thoughts on Texas. If we all got together and rented a truck (Budget, U-haul, etc.) and strapped the bikes in the back, it would make it pretty inexpensive, sharing the cost. If I don't go, thought I'd just throw that out there as an idea...

I'm looking forward to Octoberfast! I'm going to wear out these 207's a little longer so I can mount the fresh Diablo rubber before the trip... It'll come in handy at Battletraxx too! (Mark your calendars...see above)

Kobe and Al,
If there's room on the trailer (no one else hops in) Eliz and I would like to hop on. If not, I'm going to try to get my trailer finished before the trip... Thanks.

I believe OctoberFast and the Texas Twisties are about the same time. Correct me if I'm wrong. Out of the two events(I'd like to do them both) I believe I'd rather do the OctoberFast. The weather will be cooler and it would be nice to be in the mountains. The Texas Twister is down by San Antonio, are there mountains there?!?
Drink alot of Red Bull-that'll get you thru work!!

the Twisted Texas BRAG Adventure is Oct 6-8. Oktoberfast is Oct 8-11.

i've not ridden the Texas Hill Country, but i hear it's awesome. I HAVE ridden the Southern Sierra, and it IS awesome.

I don't think I'll make the BBQ. Thanks for the offer though.
I think the next event that I can realistically make will be Octoberfast.

Ok. I will look into making the trailer a for sure thing. I think the dimensions are about 8x18 or so. That would mean anywhere from 6 to 8 bikes depending on how we stack them. With only 2 seats in Al's truck that would mean a second car capable of carrying 4 to 6 people would have to be secured. So far it looks like we have 5 spots spoken for. Me, Al, Brian, Charlie and Liz.
Now I know how things change over time, but we should start getting firm commitments on the trip. Starting with me confirming the trailer and it's capacity.

I didn't realize Twisted Texas and Octoberfast fell so close. For me the decision is simple. Octoberfast. I'm going to try to get a little latitude at work.

I'm supposed to check in to Staff Academy at Camp Pendelton on the 15 so I'm just going to see if my work section will let me check out of Yuma the week prior. That way I can attend Octoberfast and just proceed right on out to Staff Academy.

Eliz commented on renting a car to haul everybody up there. I'll talk it over with her. I think a rental is a good idea. Besides, she gets a good rate with Budget thanks to her corporate fasttrak membership!

Uh, she doesn't even work for that corp. anymore LOL!

For me the decision is simple. Octoberfast.

that's very cool - you guys will have a great time up here. : )

all: check out the latest two posts on the Oktoberfast thread for an update on the lodging program at Montecito Lodge for Saturday night 10/9...

Ferris

addendum: i just spoke with Christine at Montecito again - she says people get confused all the time about their room rates, which are always per person regardless of how many folks are in the room. it's because of the two meals and 24-hour snacks being included in the package that they do this.

anyway, my apologies to anyone i unintentionally mislead by stating initially that extra bodies in a room would help bring the per person cost down proportionately.

by the way, i also goofed when i said that the rooms being held for us would hold up to eight. the rooms in the Sugar Pine Lodge at Montecito will hold 2-4 people, depending on the bed situation in the room (king versus two queens) and how intimate you are with your room mate/s.

also, in case you AZ riders might be interested, i just found out that they have a cabin across the lake from the main lodge, called "Dandy's" cabin, that will hold up to eight people. it has two bedrooms upstairs, each with a queen bed, a small bedroom downstairs with a bunk bed, and a pull-out hide-a-queen in the living room downstairs. (it's also got a couple of bathrooms). it's still $89 per person, and might be a way for you guys to all hang together that night if you're so inclined.

again, sorry for any confusion regarding the rooms; i try really hard to get all this stuff figured out ahead of time, but i'm afraid old age and alcohol are beginning to take their toll...

Hey Jerry,
That old age _ _ i does kick your and there's nothing you can do about it!
$89. for a room and meals doesnt sound bad. The cabin situation across the lake-How big is the lake? Would'nt it be better if we're all together instead of separateing the Arizonans from the Californians? Or maybe you'll feel safer that way!!!!
I talked to Bartimus today. He's in the hospital out east. Driving thru all that rain waterlogged him and he went into a 103 degree fever. He has some kind of a rare illness that kicked in due to the result of being cold and wet. The hospital is shipping him back out here to Tucson, where he can be with his doctor. I'll keep the BBS posted as to when he gets here and where he's at. Let's keep Bart in our thoughts and prayers so he gets better soon.

Al, i think it would be MOST cool if we're all together, was just trying to offer up all options. the lake is pretty small, but i still always prefer clustering the hooligans together as much as possible on one of these deals, seems to make for better stories (and pix!) from the weekend...

really bummed to hear about Bartimus. i was wondering why he's been so quiet of late. he's such a good guy, always fun to hang with and ride with, and he really cares about his friends.

please tell him FB&D said to get well soon - who knows, maybe he'll make it to Oktoberfast???
