Hello, I usually carry around with me the allen wrench for the idle adjuster and find I must adjust the idle about once every 3 days at the end of a ride since it keeps dipping down under 1000 which I don't like. Normally she idles around 1100-1200 when cold and then down to 1100 after 3-4 minutes of running through town. I then go on the freeway for say 20-80 miles in moderate 70-80 degree weather and when I pull off usually the idle is hovering around 950-1000...a little low for my preference. I give some gas and it will stay around 1050-11100 for a few seconds and then over the course of about 5 seconds creeps back to 950-1000. I adjust about 1-2 clicks each time so as not to move it too much. After about 2-3 times of doing this she will start hanging at 1500-2000 so I bump it down about 8 clicks so it is too low and then adjust it back to 1100 at hot. However a common trend is that my idle is usually LOWER when hot rather then when first started up. I am due for my first 10K service in about 2 months which will require another TPS reset (had one done the day I purchased the bike as it was a demo model since I read here it was important). I watched them do it and never had any idle problems until about 2 months ago when I started having to adjust more often. | ||

I've adjusted my idle the day I bought it, and once since in 15k. IMHO I would suspect you need to have the TPS reset again. | ||

That is exactly what my idle was doing for awhile until I took it in for the reset. | ||

Sounds like TPS is the ticket then...wil do that in a few months for the 10K. I was looking into what the TPS does and it is more than idle...it is similar to the entire ignition curve in terms of advancing/retarding through the RPM range...the idle is just the start of it all so to speak. Thanks for the feedback guys...this board is great! It is also cool to give others pointers based on actual experience...I think that is why the info I get usually works. |
