ATK is based in Utah, and they also make streetbikes. The model that i have is their street bike. Again American made using USD forks since 1987. The use Rotax 4stroke single cyl engines. They only produce about 2000 a year. |

Whew...This is really getting funny and I am really glad I am not the one in the "hot seat", but back to the original comment... I still don't think this looks like any Buell I have ever seen.

The part that looks the most like a Buell to me is the front end. Reminds me of an S1. and a steep rake. (Message edited by glitch on August 04, 2004) |

ATK is based in Utah, and they also make streetbikes. No 5hit? I wasnt aware of that. I knew they made great dirt bikes, but had no idea they actually made street bikes. Since 87 you say? Ok, who was in charge of research & marketing at Buell in 90-91? |

According to ATK's website, none of the bikes they produce or have produced are actually DOT legal. They do sell a kit that retrofits lights & signals on them tho. There is even a notice that they were told by the DOT to stop advertising their bikes as street legal. BTW, here's a pic of one of their 1988 models.

DAMNIT DAVE!!!! If I have to eat crow one more time after a disagreement with Greg, I may choke to death on it! Get thee to the archives and show me the ship date of the first RS1200 with inverted forks that hit the market. Beer is at stake here, YOUR beer. Savy? |

Blake: I can get the build sheet from the first RS1200 but it'll cost you more than a beer. If Dave Gess goes to jail would it be okay to commence a "FREE DAVE GESS" fund and raise money on badweb? Dave and I have reached the point of our lives where "excitement" is seeing a picture of a BMW 2002tii or hearing Suite Judy Blue Eyes. We can't handle jail.

That ATK is the dirtbike. They make a kit to retro THAT bike to street legal. They do and have been selling street bikes complete with electric start, turn signals, lights. I actually own the street bike. Anyways its obvious the Buell wasn`t the first bike with USD forks. Maybe they could say Buell was the first American bike with a HD motor that used USD forks. |

Let me guess...This is another Buell Knock-Off, eh? Only this time it is a concept bike from Honda and was shown at the recent Tokyo MC Show. The FN-1 Concept Bike features a fully-stressed, longitudinally-mounted 1500cc V-four engine. The front suspension appears to be housed inside the steering column, while the rear is graced with a single-sided swingarm. Rim-mounted brakes finish out the front end, with a gigantic 4:2 up-swept exhaust accenting the rear. |

No, that's a MotoGuzzi/Ducati/Bimoto knockoff. With the single strut front, the single arm rear, the single headlight, they could call that thing the Cyclops. But then Cyclops would be called a knockoff of Cyclone. I can't win today, powerball ticket bought last night wasn't a winner either, think I'll go back to sleep. 'night. |

I think the interesting part about the FN-1 is it sounds like an experimental engine that could find its way into the ST-1300. Also, it looks like a shaft drive bike, but then my eyes aren't what they used to be. LOL |

Looks shaft driven to me too. The heads are a little close to the knee for my taste, but the overall package is fairly easy on the eyes. |

They make a kit to retro THAT bike to street legal. That legal part was handled on the dealer level and not at the factory level, as Dyna pointed out, ATK got in alot of trouble about dealers putting their bikes on the street. ATK never produced a DOT legal motorcycle at the factory. They were getting around it by selling the needed items seperate, which the dealer installed as an option then did the paperwork to get a streetable title. I know at one time, there was a discussion about ATK making a street legel Sound of Singles style bike but it never came to fruition as far as I knew, I had wondered if that was what you ment about street legal bikes. |

Yep...Honda's ST's are V-4's and both the FN-1 and MT-01 look like they would be very warm to ride (in winter). Perhaps we are looking at a new generation of Liquid Cooled or Temperature Controlled exhaust systems. Patent Pending of course. LOL |

Rocket, didn't Ducati start putting USD forks on bikes in the late 80's also? Like 88 or 89? I know the supermono came with them in 93...yup, the Ducati 851 came with USD forks. Wyked, firstly I'm no Ducatist, but I do have a rather nice book The 851 Strada of 1991 featured Showa GD011 upside down forks. This was the first 851 to feature them. Raymond Roche's 1989 factory 888 was the first racer to feature Ohlins USD forks. Incidentally, the Supermono was first produced in 1992. Only 1 was built that year though. 30 were built in 1993, 10 in 1994 and 25 in 1995. All 66 of them featured USD forks. Rocket |

Probably has not changed. I really like the ST's. For touring, Gold Wings are too big IMO, my X1 is too small, and the ST's are just right. Hey! Someone's been riding my motorcycle! |

Yeah, all my friends back home went from Harley's to BMW's to ST-1100's and now to ST-1300's for their primary bike over the last 25 years. Many of the ST-1100's have over 150,000 miles on them and two have over 250,000 miles. None have required any real repair work. Their second bikes are their toy's that reflect a little alter ego. Some Motard's, some liter bikes, but the primaries get all the use. |

Interesting Rocket, if you click on the link I posted earlier, Ducati's site is showing a pic of an '89 851 with USD forks, the early USD forks but still USD's... oh and Rocket "firstly I'm no Ducatist" quite making spray soda all over my screen |

Thats weird cause I got a pic in the latest Motor Cyclist magazine with a pic of a 1989 851 with standard cartrige forks. The artical is about Ducatis in general, with pics of there bikes from 1955-present.Pretty good artical. That must of been a pic of a non production model 851 or they made it both ways. |
