Well so far the trip has been great! Decided to ride thru Kansas this year instead of Nebraska. We stayed in Topeka the first night, thanks to our late start on Thursday. We got to spend about a half hour playing trolls under a bridge yesterday out side of Limon CO while a big storm went thru. We'll be in Vegas tomorrow. Dave |

"It's a dry heat". 112 is cool when you are doing 80+ on a M2. Just do not stop if you can help it. Not only that but the summer is not over yet. It will get to 120. |

And there's an entire chapter of Buellers just 45 minutes from Topeka. You went right by us, what were you thinking? Are you doing 2-up on a xb-12? PICTURES PLEASE. |

Dave, I hope that it's going well. I'm headed for North Carolina tonight. I had to bag the saddle sore 1000 due to a late night at work but the ride itself is still over 800 miles. I'm stopping in Indiana or Ohio tonight and then to NC tomorrow. Stay safe and too bad you're headed in the other direction. JT |

Well we are in Flagstaff AZ now. Dyna, Don't ever let Penny catch you calling her FXR2 a Dyna! Jeez, the Dyna bikes wish they were FXRs. Tripper, Penny's idea of a vacation does not include stopping in almost every town that I know a Bueller or two! We'd never make it very far if we did that. Hope you understand. Two up on a 12 for this far? Are you nuts? Couple of roads I wish I was on the Buell but my FLHT is way better suited for this kind of trip. Sunday, one of the scariest moments of my life happened(and I don't scare easy) We were headed down I15 after enduring rain, sun, more rain, down to 20 MPH on the interstate rain, hail, sun more rain, real fun day. We were just coming into a town in Utah and I was going to pull off so we could get our rainsuits off(again), I was following a semi doing about 70 mph and did not want to pass him because the exit was coming up. Just following along, Penny about 50 yards behind me. A UHaul truck and trailer pulled out to pass Penny and just as the truck was even with her, a tire blew out of the trailer and the whole trailer swung all the way into Penny's lane, right behind her. I was watching the whole thing in my mirrors and have never felt so helpless, here is my wife, who I love more than anything about to be smoked by a trailer that was by now swinging from lane to median at 70 MPH. The only thing I could think of was to wave to Penny to get her to gas the hell out of her bike and get up to me and out of harms way. The guy in the truck got it stopped and we took the next exit. We pulled into a gas station and I was still shaking and was white as a ghost. All I could do is give Penny a big hug and tell her I love her. Then I told her what just about happened. Needless to say, it scared the out of me. Anyway, all is well now and we are working our way across the SW and haven't decided if we are going to go up thru CO and to Sturgis or play down here some more. Mandalay Bay was awesome, spent all day yesterday at the pool, scaring old people and small children with my white legs! Played in the wave pool and lazy river and spent way too much time in the sun. Well gotta go! Ride to the edge! On the road Dave+Penny |

If that tire would've waited about 3 seconds more to blow it would've had a very different outcome. On the road Dave |

Ever been next to or behind a semi when the tire tread decides to fly off? Happened to me on my bike a few years ago. Scared 5hitless doesnt begin to explain it. I actually have a chunk of the semis tire that struck me mounted on a wooden plaque. |

Had a riding partner hit a carcass that had just departed a semi when he was next to it. I was just ahead and watched it happen in my mirror. The GS-1100 launched in the air, crossed up and landed just like Ricky Carmichael. It was quite a sight, thank those big gyroscopes we ride on. |

Made it to Santa Fe today. The hotel only has a computer in the lobby to use and it's a dial up connection! How do people live this way? Man is it sloooow I'm going to bed. I'll check back in when I get to a civilized hotel with Hi speed! Dave |

We are in Pueblo Co now and am at a LaQuinta Inn with in the room Hi speed internet! This is more like it! We spent this morning doing the tourist thing(and Penny having a couple mochas) in Santa Fe. We stopped in the HD/Buell shop to see Murrae. Always good to meet Badwebbers in person. Penny got a couple shirts while I shot the breeze with Murrae. Then it was off, headed north, the first 50 miles or so were great! Then up ahead, we see the becoming familiar western storm cloudsWe hit rain, then sun, then rain and some hail, some more sun, some more rain and then just as we were pulling into Pueblo, more rain. Starting to see more bikes and trailers headed to Sturgis now and Penny made me proud today! We were riding along,Penny in the lead setting the pace in the light rain and she spies a few bikes up ahead, 3 bikes with 2 more being pulled on a trailer, of course they felt like they had to take up both lanes even though they weren't even doing the speed limit for some reason. Penny pulls up behind the idiot hogging(no pun intended) the hammer lane and he won't get over to let us pass!? Finally, with me flashing my lights at him he moves over and Penny goes past them followed by me yelling "Dumb 8ss" at them. Nothing more fun than blowing by some "bad8sses" That are too cool to get the hell out of the way, with a girl setting your pace(at 85-90 mph in the rain) Well we are off to get some dinner. Be back later On the road! Dave+Penny |

Dave, FYI, I need to return the headlamp bezels that were part of the big order I placed with you. The fairing already has them and they are $32 (WTF!!!) apiece...if they were only a few bucks I'd says screw it. Anyways - Hope the vacation continues to treat you well! I fired the 'bolt up for the first time in 9 months today - started right up! Took it for a ride to get everything lubed and warmed up and fell in love with it all over again... |

No problem returning the bezels Bryan. We are now back in Limon CO,on the way home. Going to ride across Kansas tomorrow and be home on Sunday. Today we made it all day without rainsuits! We beat the rain to Limon by about 20 minutes. Maybe that was natures anniversary present to us? On the road! Dave+Penny |

Well we made it back home! Got back about 7 pm last night. The dogs were very happy to see us. Jake, my 3 year old chocolate lab had never been without us that long. Jason and Heather, our dog/house sitters did a great job, even letting the guys sleep with them! Yesterday we left Topeka(after getting Penny her caffeine fix) in the rain. It got so bad before we hit KC that we pulled under an overpass for a while. Even cars were having a hard time of it with a couple in the ditch and 2 more pointing the wrong way down the interstate. After a while playing trolls under the bridge we decided to go down the road a ways to have some breakfast. We found a Waffle House, dripped water all over the floor and had a couple omelets. Waffle Houses are nuts! They just yell the orders out to the cooks, no tickets,no computer screens to read and the cooks get it right anyway. The place was packed and we still had our food, hot and fresh in about 10 minutes. Still raining when we left, we headed back out on I70 to KC, we rode in the rain until about half way from KC to the Iowa border. Finally got our leathers off at the Iowa border only to put them back on for some light rain outside of Ankeny(after Penny's second mocha of the day) All in all a good trip! Only did about 3900 miles but we decided that we would take it easy this time. Biggest day was only about 525 miles. No mechanical troubles. Lots of rain/hail/rain. The scare with the UHaul but all in all a good trip. We think next year we are going to go back to Santa Fe area and spend a few days there. The best part of the trip was getting to see Penny every day for a week and a half. Since my job switch I don't get to do that. It's going to be real hard leaving for WI tomorrow morning at 2 am. Highlights, 11 days on the road 23 Mochas 3900 miles Ate at Amanda's twice! 1 scare the hell out of me moment 10 1/2 hours at the pool at Mandalay Bay No bike problems Saw the Hoover Dam Ate some really good food(I need to get back on my diet now) Met Murrae in person Couldn't find a single Buell shirt to buy. Paid 2.49 a gallon for gas(that was the highest) Skipped Sturgis(got asked about 1000 times, "going to Sturgis?) Saw 2 Buells on the road Parked next to a Goldwing that was stuck in reverse Got home safe and sound Back to work for me tomorrow Back home! Dave+Penny |
