Yes but would he pay to tell you. You could also then go to the R1 site for free but thats full of peopl complaing about problems with there R1's. But I guess foroums are like the news, it's bad news that gets the front page, if it's all going well you are out riding. | ||

So do I but we are in the middle of winter down here, but I still try to ride even in the rain and fog it's good to keep you skills honed in bad conditions. Just looking forward to some warm riding weather in NC Ridge Ride in september. I do think that a small charge would not be out of place, I for one get many many hours of amusment a year out of this site, not to mention the technical information and the people I have met through the site. | ||

Agreed, I have learned quite a bit about troll bait....er I mean engine building on this site  It is good for a laugh too. But seriously your right the people and the knowledge make this site worth it. | ||

5,000 registered users $10 / year subscription = $50,000 per year. 5,000 registered users at $50 / year subscription = $250,000 per year. Then you can start using some real computer power. I for one would not complain at a subscription and I think it's about time you considered it. Blake - Free as in Speech is how it's usually phrased  You're not paying for the software license (the privilege of using it) you're paying the company to package it, supply updates, tech support, etc. It's kinda like moto-sickles to me. I can tweak and tune the bike on my own, and do my own maintenance, the only thing it costs me is the physical parts - oil, plugs, etc. and my time. Or I can take it to someone and have a guarantee of sorts, plus expertise. But the expertise will cost me $$. Which reminds me - the house is sold, closes Aug. 31st. so I'm gonna have some extra dough to spend. Hmmm. Quick Board topic maybe? | ||

Congrats on selling the house Philly. Ours is up (and approaching the pain threshold) now. Blake, you could freely run any of the Red Hat distributions, and even get patches for them free, but it is a lot more work for somebody, and a lot of churn, and a little less reliable (it will only run for months at a time, not years at a time, between reboots). All said and done, your support contract with Red Hat is money well spent. They add a lot of value. | ||

Bartimus... I have had fantastic luck with the Metal Cometic primary gasket, and horrible luck with the paper Harley one. I have even (in a pinch) reused the Cometic one twice with no problems. Don't think it would have worked a third time. I did have OK luck with the James paper gaskets (RTV on both sides), but the metal cometics are far easier to install. | ||

Bartimus, Get the latest updated semi-inflexible gasket from your nearest Harley-Davidson or Harley-Davidson/Buell dealership. If they fold it to put it in the bag then they gave you the wrong one. | ||

Bartimus: FWIW the stock H-D primary gaskets are now the paper/metal/ paper type and they have gone UP in price (Go Figure). I think they now are between $16 & $20 USD. They look and feel a lot stouter than the plain paper ones. YRMV. Neil S. | ||

Thanks for explaining the situation with the Linux. I always wondered what all the fuss was about "free" open source software, since for us, it has never been free. Red Hat really bumped their price which is why we switched to the new provider. Thanks Bomber for noticing Dave's banner. He's been suffering without it for quite a while. If y'all start sending money, I'd feel obligated to actually get off my butt and fix up this place. Stay tuned. Lots more in the works. | ||

So I reassemble my front end .. and seem to have a 1/4" gap between the speedo housing and the left fork leg. Is this normal? I seem to have all the spacers installed and the washer goes with the nut. I'm using the S2 manual on CD (Thanks Don!) since the RS doesn't have pics and isn't as clear. | ||

Well,I got my first lesson in Buell engine assembly today--and it ain't easy.I have done countless car motors and endless dirtbikes over the years but never a complete HD/Buell.Terry Parsley of Vallejo Buell(and another Team Elves nut) donated his afternoon to my education.We measured ID's and OD's of pinion shafts and bearing races and trial fit cranks and then fit the Timken bearings,installed a windage tray, and generally prepped engine to go together tomorrow.(Course,me being a FNG probably extended the time needed ny 10x. BTW,S&S crank set and rods are kinda sexy) | ||

Well guys, It's been a grand ride but its time to move on. When Buell stopped making the tube framed bikes, it was the beginning of the end for me. I hung on for a couple of years to see if Buell/HD would decide to make a bike that I could use but, no luck. The other day, I was visiting the local Buell dealer where I saw for the first time in person, the new Buells. Handguards, light screens, see-thru plastic tank covers...... Some one at Buell/HD needs to go work for a toy manufacturer. I put a lot of miles on a bike and need something of size and comfort to do it on so I bought a 2005 FJR. Thanks for the memories.
