Shawn's Superbike team wouldn't let him, as they have a rider running in Formula Extreme on a Suzuki, and it would be real likely Shawn would beat him. Also, there's lot's of pressure from Suzuki not to have riders of their bikes ride Buells...long story regarding Morgan Broadhead of Suzuki. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Annon and anyone that has decision making ability: It truly is a shame that Hal's team is prevented from competing this weekend for those reasons. The bottom line is I would like to see the Buell Race Teams get all the exposure they can regardless of track configuration and incidents like these. Concerning the faster tracks with the long straights, perhaps finding a way of recording and posting times through the tight turns would be a way to develop "real world" interest in Buell's product offering. Quite simply, I contend there are more folks out there that would buy a Buell if these times were known and that not everyone wants a bike that runs 170+ in the the straights but is slow in the twisties. Get creative with the timing equipment and prove your point about Buell's being designed for the real world. Sure would be positive PR if the race commentators (the old Jackie Stewart types) were saying things like "Wow, look at that Buell work the tight stuff. Now that is a bike for the street rider." So long as the person looking at the bikes lives near Deals Gap or some other similar area. Far too many of us live where its nothing more than city riding & a lot of gridwork. I can see the sales pitch for "fast in the twisties" failing miserably in Florida, N.Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, SE Wisconsin. Railing thru the curves is fun no doubt about that. But unfortunately we dont all live anywhere near curves. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Yeah, Mid Ohio was a perfect track to displaythe Buell handling. The bumpiness of the track really allowed the Buell's strengths to show (and put Zemke on the ground). A top 5 was definitely in the cards 'til the motor broke. Oh well, we're getting there. Oh, and Dyna, there's plenty of curvy roads in all those places you mentioned, besides the hoot of squirting through traffic, etc. 172 mph isn't real world riding. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Please give me a link to a map showing the roads around here. And im not talking 2 hrs north in the Kettle. Any fun decent roads are few & far between. I have been on the roads in the smokeys & in the New england area & even our twistiest road would be considered a straight line in those places. The western portion of the state along the mississippi river has some nice roads tho. And Florida..ah yes, who can forget 11 curves in 318 miles? | ||||||||||||||||||||||

I think that's a brilliant idea... I think the announcers should start quoting times coming out of the most important corner (which ever corner it is that leads onto the longest straight). It's always irked me that they place soo much emphasis on a top speed trap. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

All in due time Crusty. Been a hectic year & its going to get even worse once we start moving equipment out of the plant. Havent ever done a relocation deal. Excited & nervous as hell at the same time. Be nice if they would make up their damn minds where we are going tho..madison/menasha/madison/menasha/madison. Bill, The Buell is not down on top speed as much as you might imagine. I think Mike was clocked 4th fastest trap speed recently out of all the FX field, just 3mph down from Miguel on the HRC ractory Honda machine. Dyna, Straight or twisty roads, I'd rather be on a Buell than any other motorcycle. I think most here feel the same way. So feel free to cease the put-down niggling. You don't seem to get it. This is a Buell enthusiast's site. You never miss an opportunity to try to put down Buells. Time to move on with your life. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Blake...Just a note to let you know that I don't have a clue other than what I read on the BWB concerning top speeds. My point was that Buell's apparently do excel in the tight stuff and I was thinking that if they could set up the timing equipment on the nasty sections they could document their machines prowess in that situation and flaunt it to their best advantage. I don't want to go 170 (anymore), but I do love to make a bike dance in the twisties and my X1 does an excellent job of that. I can just imagine what the XB series does. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

I used to take a ride out Higwhay 4 from my home in West Topeka each day. I had a Buell test bike (B-031) that I used to take on the same course around Perry Lake and through Jefferson and Leavenworth County. The roads that connect McLouth and Easton are better than they appear on maps. Oklahome is less familair to me, but I never missed a chance to play, on the way from my Topeka office to the Dallas office, in the Arbuckle Mountains. Some here recall teh hilarious tale of me loosing the Adsis Shield on the Arai Quantuum at 2AM on the way to Ft. Worth to do Buell Demo Rides at the coliseum. Go to Exit 51 on I-35, get off and trun right or left. Either way, you'll have fun. Dallas......er, that's another story. We'll talk later. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

oh ok thanks i cant exactly watch the races on tv or at the track cuz im in iraq. so the only way i get to find out is on the ama website, and i was looking at the lap chart and it showed him running pretty good untill then, so i was wondering if he recked or somethign but i see it was engine truble | ||||||||||||||||||||||

The one thing that would make me happier than seeing a Buell rider on the top of the box, is seeing a Buell rider win the championship. Crusty...I don't think anything will please everyone. Just peruse the BWB's politcal and war threads for living proof. LOL Inline 4's vs Twins. Is a Technological Battle with a few handicaps tossed in to help the Twins. For a long time folks hated Ducati for barging in and then gradually warmed up to the product and personalities behind them. Can't wait for Buell to be hated the same as Ducati was! | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Gee José, I often trek four hours just to get to some of the great twisty roads in Oklahoma. My lung bursting rib shattering crash in the Spring of '99 happened on one of many a wicked decreasing radius turn on Skyline Drive in Oklahoma. Dang, just saw young Scott Beckley's crash on SpeedTV. That is one really tough kid and a fellow CMRA racer. Hope he's okay. Looks like Mid-Ohio wasn't thinking too much about motorcycle racing when they made repairs to the track. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

I gotta say, SpeedTV is doing a much better job of showcasing the riders. They can still do better, but man, my wife was actually just in here enjoying the coverage of our local hero, Ben Spies and of Scott's crash. Way to go SpeedTV and Greg White.
