Depends on where you want to make your power, what kind of sound level you want/are willing to put up with, and how much you're willing to spend. The Buell Race Kit works fine, despite what people will try to tell you. At roughly $600 for the kit (ECM, filter, and pipe) it's one of the cheaper total options as well. However, the race muffler makes its power up high (5000+), and actually dips below stock briefly in the midrange. The D&D is one of the louder pipes, improves over the Buell Race pipe significantly in the midrange and has goo peak numbers as well. However, there have been a rash of people recently that have broken the chin fairing mount on the muffler, and it is a bit pricey (I want to say nearly $540?) The Jardine is relatively inexpensive and makes decent numbers, but I recall problems with their mounts as well. I think people arte even having problems with the new steel mounts breaking as well as the older aluminum ones. The Latus is loud, but I don't remember ever seeing dyno numbers for it. The Force is arguably the loudest pipe for the XB, and supposedly makes excellent power, but after all the crap people have put up with from that company, I'm just going to say that I don't recommend it no matter how bad you want to be loud. The Drummer is a modified stock pipe, solid as all hell (you can still jack using it), moderately loud and makes good power, with the emphasis from the boys being on 'streetable' power - that is, 3500-5500rpms or so. It's also one of the cheapest mufflers for the XBs, especially if you turn in a stock can for it (if you don't want to or can't, stock cans can be had for about $50-$75 rather easily). Does that help any? FWIW, I have had the race kit since about 1500 miles (ten times that now), and recently bought a Drummer to replace the can with (I'm still in Japan, though, so no personal experience with it). |

darthaine thanks that helps alittle i have the race pipe right now but i only got to ride my bike for a week before i had to come to iraq and the race pipe was the pipe that came with my bike when i bought it and i just think its one of the uglyest and i have been thinking really hard on some of the others but since i have got on bbw the drummer has been like the talk of the town so to speak so if it really is good i might go with it |

-=shrugs=- I actually like the looks of my race pipe the best out of the bunch, but then I did a little bit of work to mine. Love the dual outlets...to each his own. There are a lot of satisfied Drummer owners on this board, and several with D&Ds. I think one of those two is probably the best bang for the buck, personally, for street riding. ...wow, someone younger than me, finally...be safe over there, and come back soon to your new addition! Congratulations, by the way! |

Don't get me wrong but It's also one of the cheapest mufflers for the XBs is that true? I know it makes the most power down low, has one of the nicest sounds, but at $400 plus shipping and you supply the pipe, sounds to me like it's a little more expensive once you add it all up. I'm not knockin the Drummer, Bubba, or Kevin. The only thing holding me back is the cost. I can get a Jardine, for almost half what the Drummer cost. Cost is a big deal to me, as well as some others I know, I wish it wasn't, 'cause then I'd have been one of the first to be Drumming. Signed, Cheap Bastidge Flame suit on, OK, I'm ready... |

glitch its $400 shipping included. and it also makes pretty much the best power up top for a slip on muffler. everyone always seems to forget that. plus it will probably never break so once you put it on it is on. plus if you get the ecm and filter from dave the total price is $646. but get what ever you want, this is a game of opinons so its really hard to call what is right for you |

Bubba, I know (IMHO) that it's the best, and the best ain't cheap. There is no question in my mind that it's also in the top three as far as being the most tough, strong, and, worry free, the three being all made by Buell (yours starting out that way). but get what ever you want Honestly, I'm working on it, every time I get close something seems to come up. The Drummer is for me, just can't justify the cost right now. its $400 shipping included Both ways!? Thanks for not taking my post wrong. I really hesitated hitting that "post" button.

What needs to happen is we need to donate some cans to the Drummer guys and then they can just sell em outright! |

Bubba, Just curious. I know on your website the Drummer is indicated for the XB12r. How do you address the interactive exhaust thing when you gut the can into a drummer. Does it then become unnecessary and removed, or does that stay hooked up. Thanks, seriously considering sending you my stock can for a conversion. |

Firebolt- I was lucky enough to ride with 2 XB9R's this weekend...one with the drummer and one with the Jardine. All I can say is they both sounded SWEEEEET! Mellow but menacing at idle and just perfect when WFO! If money was no object then the drummer is the way to go. The Jardine is a bargain but did have some issues with the chin fairing brackets that have been addressed. You can't go wrong with either IMHO. It's your money, get what you want! |

Glitch (and all), I thought the same thing regarding the Jardine and the cost of the drummer, so I picked one up. Knowing that the old style aluminum brackets had a tendancy to crack, the dealer opened the box to make sure the brackets were the new steel ones. So, off I went -- a couple hundred dollars better off in my pocket and with a shiny new can. The result -- the Jardine is pure crap! I had a huge hole in the powerband at 3,700, and a matching hole was being ground in the front of my chin fairing by the header after the "new and improved" steel bracket broke (not to mention the hole that was being ground into the side of the can by the dangling bracket). I brought the Jardine back to the dealer and after waiting around for [insert name here] to return from lunch at Jardine, I was told they wanted me to send it in so they could inspect it. They said they had heard of only 5 cases of the steel brackets failing. BS! Now they're on production hold (from what I understand), while they pull their heads out of their asses and try to build a bracket out of REAL steel (I suppose), instead of that pot metal alloy steel they used for the new bracket. Anyway, after being told they wanted to look at the bracket and muffler to determine if a refund was in order, I insisted the dealer refund my cash and take it up with Jardine themselves, which they did. I took my dough and immediately sent it off to Kevin for a Drummer and haven't looked back since. The Drummer looks great, sounds great and has no performance hole whatsoever. It might be expensive, but unlike the Jardine, D&D, Force, etc. it won't break! |

2k4xb12: Like I said before, The Drummer IS for me, I just can't afford it right now. So, I'll just have to stick with my Buell Rust Race can. Even though I don't own one I recommend them. I was aroud when the Drummer was brand new and the testing was going on. I was impressed then, I'm still impressed. There have been several posts in which I say "I will own a Drummer" Tho ONLY thing holding me back is the cost, you see, I have 10, 13, and 15 year old boys, my 13 year old was asked to go to Duke University because he made the same SAT scores as more than half of high school SENIORS. That wasn't cheap either, but a man has to have his prioritys. I like Bubba, I've talked with him several times, and have sent people his way when in need of exhaust, as well as other parts (when he was with Tilleys). To some cost is an issue, to some they just want it loud. I just threw the cost out on the table, just in case it's a problem for some. Bubba knows this, or he would have said something less friendly. One thing you can count on Bubba for, is his upfront, and honesty, so honest some can't handle it. |

Elkman the interactive exhaust butterfly valve gets welded shut. there is no need for it since it is nolonger a 3 chamber muffler. it only has one chamber now. the Drummer has a much higher volume capacity compared to stock to the stock. and theres no need for it. Besides I hear the drummer goes well with cheese and packers games

Well, heres my take on the D&D vs Drummer. I had a D&D on my bike for about a year, I use my Buell to commute to work, weekend hill country rides and track days. Recently, the pipe had a problem and needed to be returned to the manufacturer. They replaced it with a brand new one, with in 1 week. On top of that, they kept in constant contact with me and even had their Coating company call me to find out about the rust because that can was NOT supposed to rust. So, dealing with their company - A++ excellent experience. Performance wise - the can is good. I enjoyed how it pulled and pulled and pulled on the top end. Down low, yes, it would bog down some - I really only noticed this at the track when I would flog it to get out of the corner and I had gone into the corner at the wrong rpm. It would not take very fast until about 3500 to 4200 rpms or so, but it would still throw me back in the seat if I wasnt careful. I bought the pipe because I'm a firm believer in "Loud pipes save lives". The D&D has no short coming when it comes to being aware of a Buell running a D&D. Now.. The Drummer... I replaced my D&D with a Drummer. For no other reason than I wanted to try out a new pipe - my bike is my toy, and I like to change it up. I broke the pipe in this morning (10 minutes at 3500 rpms = 65mph = STINKS!). After that I rode some of our twisty roads here. I liked the down low "get up and go" of the Drummer. It did not seem to pull as hard as the D&D after about 5krpms, but it still pulled. The exhaust note is "similar" to the Buell race can, but it does have a much different note. I really like the crisp sound it puts out at the higher rpm's. Not overly loud, but nice and crips. I havent had any warranty issues with the Drummer, I imagine Im S.O.L if I do though. Not that Im downing Kev or Brian - great guys and I know they will try to help if they can. But if the drummer for some weird reason snaps/buckles/goes south - I gotta start the whole process all over again is my understanding. Monday Im headed to the Texas Motorsports Ranch for a track day. When I get back Im sure I will have more information about how the Drummer perfomed at the track. TMS is a 2.0 mile very technical course with 2 short straits, and lots of turns. Its an ideal course for the Buell in my opinion, Englishman and Slowby have ridden buells there as well - they could tell you better than I. If you were choosing amongst all the pipes available for the Buell XB series, I would encourage you to look at the D&D and the Drummer. Ask yourself some questions about how you ride, what is important to you and make a decision. |

austin cool glad your liking it...the reason it don't feel like its pulling as hard is that the jump in the power band is not as severe and abrupt as the D&D. thats the smooth power. enjoy the track day |
