I think that there is more power laying around somewhere in the 1203......however, to compare it to the old Chevy 350 vs. the GEN III is a stretch based on Buells' resources and company size. The GEN III started life in late '91 on paper and didn't go into production until mid/late '96. That is a ton of R&D and $$$$. For Generous Motors, no big deal, but for Buell I'm thinking the cash flow doesn't exist. I personally think that the best thing Buell could do is get out from underneath the "Company" and be it's own entity again. Once again, there's that double edged sword though........Odie | ||

although I have no crytal ball or insider information, something tells me that if Buell (the company) had been capable of surviving and thriving on it's own, it would have stayed independant | ||

bomber has a good point besides that the quality has improved since the h-d take over and u can buy buells at more dealerships | ||

I don't know..... There are always tons of reasons to sell a company. My Buell felt a tie to H-D due to engine use. Maybe he foresaw a boost to R&D and $$$$ with an affiliation with H-D. Maybe the company was going down.......don't know. However, I do believe that if marketing was taken a step further and more exposure was given to the bikes then maybe sales would increase. Everybody at work from japriders to Ultraclassic riders likes my 12S. I feel that maybe not enough exposure is being given to a great product. I keep reading about why did Erik Buell create such a brilliant chassis and stick such a lump in it. Or words to that effect. I think they've got it backwards. Erik got an engine. Then he built a chassis. If it were you would you have just built some UJM type and be done with it? Or, would you have gone all out on the chassis. I think Erik has done (is doing) to the engine all that is allowed at this time. Sorry if this seems off topic, but to me it fits. We're not interested in a spec war with other bike makers and our customers aren't either. We're trying to build the best sport bike, not the best race bike, so our riders can have more fun in their lives.Erik Buell | ||
