I Like XB9SGX, it is a very brave move by Buell, surely you can see the grounds for a touring model here, but hell some of you okes can whine, we can be glad that there are changes in the model line up, How bloody old is the Monster design and it still look the same. I am quite positive if Buell brought our a 1500 or whatever increase in capacity the 1200 lot would be whining, this way all 9's keep their value, imagine what would have happened if the 9's were dropped from the line up as a lot of people predicted?

I can't see the attraction of the Monster, I find it pretty homely.

Show me a Brutale though and I start salivating. : )

Ah, see...now everyone's happy again!

As I mentioned, I'm just pokin' fun. If ya like the XB9XCGBTLL, and I am convinced that some of you actually (think you) do, fantastic!

It just occurs to me that Buell have become "decorators" rather than "architects" (to borrow a phrase...

I think the Aprilla Tuono looks like a turd, yet I love the Monster, love the MV Brutale and the Benelli TNT. I intend to collect one of each.

Enjoy the new model but watch for low-flying squirrels!

Laidher, dudes!

Ingemar, It so unfortunate that you don't have a good supporting dealer over there. I know it doesn't help you but here in the states we sometimes have to travel a few hundred miles to find a good one too. : (

Just because you have Downs Syndrome, Doesn't mean you are 'retarded'

Is that really America, home of political correctness? you should be ashamed.

Despite myself, I still laughed at the sentiment, though. My friend Bradley with cerebral palsey can argue better than some of you guys and he can only use a keyboard with one finger---oh I see, that's just like you, that is.

Oh, if you could only see the visual I'm pondering now, Martin, you'd be amazed at just how accurate your "one finger" analogy truly is... : )

'course over there you use two fingers, so I assume the point is lost on you. Or perhaps its underscored twice. Once for each lobe I still have intact.

Yeah it is disappointing that the 'new' offering from Buell is just window dressing. What really disturbes me tho is the video clip of Erik talking about the bike. He is just soooo excited! So he is a good actor or perhaps just on drugs. Or perhaps he should be on drugs. Seriousely, Erik is stuck with or chooses to stay with a lump of a motor. That is not likely to change in the forseeable future, for whatever reason. Yeah, Ducs are nice. Or you can have a Suzuki SV1000 nakked for $6,795, around here. Save $4k for other stuff, might even be more reliable. Or you may buy a Suzuki SV650 which is pretty comparable to the XB12 in performance but may handle better. As always YMMV

My wife got an SV650 a month ago and I can say it does not equal my 9R. It has decent power and all but not only do you feel like you are riding on top of it instead of being a part of the bike, but the suspension and brakes are not up to the XB.

She loves it, but it is not for me.

XB's are coming down in price, which is a very good thing. I only bought my XB because I got a great deal at the end of last summer, which put it in line with the Japanese 600's. For me, this bike has much more character and purpose for me.

Just curious,
Does this mean that all the new (or old) Buellers that decide this is the bike for them, won't be welcomed with open arms, because ya'll don't like their taste in what they think their bike should look like.
I wouldn't do what Misato did to his, but at the same time I really like what he did.
Ya'll may not like what I'm doin' to mine, does that mean I'll be ridiculed?
So it's not the bike for you, don't buy it.
Do what Erik did, create your own.

>>>So he is a good actor or perhaps just on drugs. Or perhaps he should be on drugs.

What an unkind thing to say.

That contributes absolutely nothing to a meaningful conversation.

I am eager to hear both pro and con views about the new models. Among Buell owners are thoughtful, smart people who bring a wide range of perspectives.

If YOU wanted a 160MPH Buell and I wanted a super-motard (I was getting ready to build one) you can see that you and I could be dissappointed and thrilled, respectively, at the same time. Neither of us would be right or wrong.

To say someone "must be on drugs" is unkind. To say it about someone unable to rise to their own defense is unconscionable.

I'd challenge you to reconsider that statement and consider an apology.

If you want to hate the 2005 model and say it sucks...knock yourself out.

But, I'm not sure Erik Buell has to be assailed to make valid your views.

The thing that bothers me the most about the XB9SX fiasco... is that generally we as a group of Buell owner have been bitching about how most the HD dealerships don't support Buell. Red Headed step child... ignored promotions (I think there might be a box of t-shirts in the back), unsupported demo rides, etc.

So... if they generally do not take the Buell line seriously, What do you think the reaction will be when a XB9SX arrives?????

"What the hell is that... some motor cross or super motard poseur special???

Buell just took two giant steps backwards in getting the HD dealers to take the Buell line seriously!!!

Someone posted a cool flag the other day which said PURIST NOT POSEUR. (Sorry I looked and could not find it, I quoted it wrong) (...AND REMEMBERED LATER WHAT IT WAS, and it was not the word performance)

I can't see how the XB9SX is not going to damage this further.

Here is an idea... DEMOGRAPHICS... MARKET SURVEY.

Ask those that ride and love the machines where they should go, and select a group to preview ideas to see if the real world users like what is coming. An objective review of the design, not a subject review by the development group. That is too detached.

I just can't believe where it all went after the big change of tv and print ads for the XB series like never done before. We just lost ground in the fight for Buell to be taken seriously by all, including and especially the HD dealer network!!!

Glitch is right. If we shun those on a Buell model we are not especially fond of we're no better than the jerks on in-line 4s that shun any and all twin riders.

I think that is very dependent on your HD dealer, mine love's he's Buells because they are different, when I called him and asked what he thought about SX, he said it is insane and he 's gonna get a few just to stand around, cause "Buell is a non-conformist bike, so do not expect to make it fit in a category or class", I just love this oke he came up with the gem: "Buell is for purists not for poseurs"

It was unkind and I do apologize, sincerely. Court, thanks for calling me on that, it was out of character for me. I hold your opinion in the highest regard. I suppose I said that out of shock or embarrasement after viewing the video. We all know what great things Erik has done and is capable of. To see him presenting the 'new' Buell kinda, well, disturbes me, or depresses me. Even if Erik is determined to stick with the air cooled motor there is no reason that he can't build a Ducati Monster competative bike. The XB12 is not there. I want 100hp plus to the ground not advertised on the motor. I had a 1998 S1W with the so called 101 hp motor that dynoed at 78hp. Pretty pathetic actually. I know I am beating a dead horse again. I really want Buell to be a world class player, again like Aprilla. Maybe they are not concerned with that. They can go on building bikes that will sell in small numbers to a few people that find them interesting, or odd, or quirky. That seems to work for them. However they will never draw a large following or sell a large number of bikes, nor will they woo back the previous tube frame owners like myself. They have a business plan I am sure and they are sticking to it. Neon plastic and headlight guards are a big deal to them. To most of the rest of motorcycling world it is a joke and a embarrasement.

"Or you can have a Suzuki SV1000 nakked for $6,795, around here."

And even at that price, the bike is purchased by ....NO ONE! The local dealers cannot give that turd away.

Looks like a piece of S... and has a riding position that only a 18 yr old can love.

Sadly, the Kawi z1000 is in the same boat. Can't giv them away as door prizes.

Go figure.

To most of the rest of motorcycling world it is a joke and a embarrasement Then I must be missing the joke or too thick skinned to be embarassed, hell I rode about every piece plastic japanese, italian and english bike and to say I am very impressed and very Happy and I love Buell for having the Balls and Guts to step outside what the mainstream expect and follow his dream...funny that you mention Aprilia, they having serious financial difficulties and selling to Proton...Now would you like a sinking "world" player or rather a floating quirky company backing your bike, besides your world player is not officially available in my country with no dealer support network, whereas my Buell has got a dealer network supporting it...

The plastic isn't neon, it's transluscent. : )

While it doesn't trip my trigger I can see a cool bike to personalize. It's a Lightning for Pete's sake, it lends itself to all kinds of off the shelf mods. Go to traditional colored plastic (2 pieces) and you'd probably think it looked really sharp. I'm sure the headlight guard and hand guards come off easily too.

Hell, it's a Lightning that comes stock with Pirellis, that's a step in the right direction IMO. Of course the Dunlop 208s might be too.

Look at the bright side, at least this year nobody feels shafted because they bought a 9 three weeks before the 12s came out.

I'm a bit disappointed.
BTW - If we're throwing out alternative bikes, how about a Triumph Speed Triple? $8899, two year warranty, 118 BHP. Damn nice bike.
But that's not what this board is about!

Anyway, if the new XB9 is a "City" bike, doesn't that imply a commuting ability? If so, where do the bags mount? Just askin'.
If the XB9 had saddle bags as an option, I would have seriously considered it.

It is interesting that the SV has not sold very well. Just goes to show how fickle the buying public can be. One of the bike mags just did a article on the SV1000s and what a great bike it is and how it is being overlooked, etc. Unlikely that they will ever say anything like that about a XB. Also true that Aprilla is in financial straights, at least they accomplished truly great things. Johnnyrfast, you like the XB and that's great. A buddy of mine has been riding for years like myself and he is convinced that he has to have a Vespa! I don't understand that since he has a Ducati 900ss and a Triumph ST. Nothing to understand really, that is what he want's and that is all that matters. It is your money and yo u should spend it on what you like. For myself and a number of others, the XB is not what we want. That is ok. Buell does not build that many bikes and they don't need to sell many bikes since they have HD behind them. As always YMMV.

"quirky company backing your bike" Actually Buell did not back my bike. I holed a piston at 19,324 miles due to a intake seal failure (1998 S1W). Buell declined to do anything about that. My local dealer who blows (Bumpas HD/Buell of Memphis) also declined to rebuild my bike, at my expense. The next nearest dealer is 3.5 hours away. So Buell did not support me after I spent quite a sum of money with them, so I no longer support them. Seems fair. I did not give up easily. I put 31k miles on my bike before I did give up and sell it. I now ride a FZ1. I miss alot of things about the S1, but reliability, a dealer that values customers and customer service, and a company that stands behind the procduct are not some of them. Really, Buell is little more than a speciality builder. They build a handfull of bikes, that is all they need to do and it seems that is all they want to do. Does anyone know the production numbers for 2003 by manufacturer?
