Okay so Buell builds a sportbike with an air cooled pushrod engine and people flog them over it for using antiquated technology. Yamaha builds the same thing and it's an acheivement, huh did I miss something ? |

Ken, You said it. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Mr. Buell should feel extremely flattered right about now. Cool bike, and cool web site intro. |

Wow...Did you guys miss the boat or what? That isn't a Buell knock off. It is a knock off of this V-Rod StreetFighter Concept. Looks like at least one manufacturer listens to the Consumer and the Press.

Note: The V-Rod StreetFighter and StreetTracker are not Buell's. They are Harley's, right from the V-Rod engine to the tube frame on up to the bling bling. In essence, noncompetitive good looking street bikes that appeal to us stylers and profilers. You want fast and quick handling? Stick with Erik and his Buell's. That is their niche in the market. |

Outie that yamaha's been a show/concept bike for a bit longer than the hdtracker has . . . . but I won't tell! |

Bomber...No need to, I know that. Yet, I maintain my position that the MT-01 is not a Buell derivative. Still, be it a hardcopy concept bike or an illustration, Yamaha tested the waters, listened to the Consumers and the Press and is bringing it to market. Understand the same holds true for their MT-03 SuperMotard concept bike. edited by outrider on July 14, 2004 |

There is nothing truly fresh & innovative in the market. All the stuff Buell or anyone else has used or thought of using has already been tried by someone else. Gas in the frame? Sorry folks but Erik didnt invent it. Perimiter brakes? Nope, once again been around for a long long time. Plenty of these ideas are 30-40 years old & are just now coming into being because of the newer casting techniques, better materials, etc etc. |

First time I saw perimeter rotors was on a custom chopper and that was almost 20 years ago. Wonder how much of today's technology was actually a result of these neanderthalic artisans that can't afford to patent their concepts. Just wondering.... |

Like Court said, this bike is at least 2-3 years old, so I believe it beats Glynis' VRod streetfighter design by at least a year (at least, I think that's his name)[edit: just noticed bomer made the same observation...nevermind ]. I do see it as a Buell derivative, but so what? The more, the better. I really like it (except that damn exhaust). If Yamaha can keep it under 10 grand (no reason why they can't), I think they will definitely be ont to something. MCN is reporting 100 bhp 100ft/lbs...we just have to wait to see what the weight is and the fuel capacity. edited by jim_m on July 14, 2004 |

There is a big differance between the new Yamaha and the Harley V-Rod concept DRAWING, should I say it again, DRAWING. If only Harley had the balls. Personally I think alot of you are going to be eating crow when one of those actually pulls up next to you and hands you your on a silver platter. Love my Buell but I know a badd machine when I see one. |

Guzzis are hot, but all i can think when i see them is "damn, the first thing to hit the ground is motor" and i find that unsettling. Personally I think alot of you are going to be eating crow when one of those actually pulls up next to you and hands you your ••• on a silver platter. there are dozens of bikes out there that can do that now, why sweat it?

I'm not sweatin it. I was just takin a little poetic license. Pictures don't do a bike justice, and that picture alone stirs something inside me. I do love DIFFERENT, thats why I bought a Buell, and I love the fact that Buell has had a hand in changing the way the big 4 think. The world will only be a better place if bikes like that start coming out of the woodwork. Remember the B-King? Kinda reminds me of that Yamaha. |

Dates really don't mean much, but for those of you that care, the MT-01 was intro'd at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1999 and the MT-03 was unveiled at the Milan Motor Show in 2003. I still do not perceive either as a Buell knock off or even in the same market niche. The design firm that did both elaborates on how they are more an exercise in aesthetics and fun. Neither is intended for a race track whereas that appears to be the driving force at Buell.

But Court, this is actually been announced for Febuary 2005 availability, production model will be introduced September 25th on the show circuits...granted, it may be a Europe only model, but I have a lot more faith in Yamaha delivering on an announced new model than Fischer ;^D edited by jim_m on July 15, 2004 edited by jim_m on July 15, 2004 |

knock-offs are tough . . . .as Dyna said, there's little truly innovative on the scene, and much of what is new is evolutionary and invisable (altering timing, squish bands, and the like to produce clean power) tech on bikes comes from so many places (or at least appeared elsewhere first) -- most bike manufacurers are actually fairly stodgy -- else we'd not be rinding with tele forks (now THERE"S an area where local neanderthals and blacksmiths have really gone to town -- lots of cottage build sccot from the UK have shown huge changes in fork design -- nessie comes to mind) |
