Check out this story on Motorcycle Daily: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/14july04_yami_mt01.htm I'll bet they're right; it'll end up being "Europe only". Pretty cool though. |

1,700cc's?? DANG! well i like the design, and who can blame them? Buell is a good nitch, and they see that there is a market for that type of styling. I hope it comes over to the states, cause i would like to see one in person. |

Yamaha's needed an updated VMax for a long far now . . . if this things got Mr Max's stones, AND handles, it could be big fun! |

July 14 2004 V-Max is back Here is the first official picture of the new MT-01 production bike - proving Yamaha has lost little of the flavour in turning it from a show-stopping concept to a road-going reality. Its 1700cc V-twin motor and radical styling makes it the natural successor to the firm's brutal V-Max. But the difference is that where the V-Max, which ended production in January this year, was fast, it was also evil-handling. The new bike puts the emphasis on grunt rather than top speed but is also blessed with sports-spec chassis parts to make it go where you want it to. Discuss this story Its final version is very close to the MT-01 show bike first exhibited in 1999- except that the suspension is more conventional. It is likely to make around 100ftlb of torque and a 100bhp. It will be priced to rival BMW's Rockster and Ducati's Monster S4R - at around £9000. It's due on sale in February next year. Read more about it in MCN, out on Wednesday, July 14, 2004. MT-01 is now in production |

Yamaha's been building great motors for longer than most of us have been riding (I've owned a bunch, ridden bunches) . . . a 4K redline would be very surprising Overpriced? what ain't? run the numbers -- inflation since 1968, price of a new Triumph Bonnie, BSA Rocket, or HD Sporty (the muscle bike at the time), then see what those bikes would coast today -- I'll betcha that the prices have remained pretty stabel over the years -- as I say about twice a month, I want my income (2004) with my dad's prices (1955 -- new house, 6,900, new chevy, less than 2, you get the picture) everything's overpriced unless you want it enough -- in this country, any one can buiy damn near anything if they want it -- someone, somewhere will loan ya the dough |

Looks like something from a bad sci-fi movie - like Battlefield Earth bad. Can't make up my mind on the ugly or not... edited by midknyte on July 14, 2004 |

Damn straight John. And ugly is clearly in the eye of the beholder. I think the XB12 in the Black & amber is a pretty sharp looking bike, but the S3T has always looked like a mongoloid bike to me. I bet that Yamma looks a lot better in person. I know when I first saw the 999 Duc I too thought it was ugly, but seeing it in person made all the difference. |

I love it! Just think, if this comes out, Buell will be able to say: Compared to all other motorcycles "in its class" the XB12S is smaller, lighter, faster and produces similar power from a much smaller, higher reving, race-bred engine. Who'd have thought they'd ever be able to say that? |

Yamaha's been building great motors for longer than most of us have been riding (I've owned a bunch, ridden bunches) . . . a 4K redline would be very surprising Have you ever looked at the redline on a Yamaha big twin? Run down to your friendly dealer and take a look. I believe it's 4200, but it might be 4300. It's been a while since I looked. When you build a long stroke motor, piston speed is the main limiting factor. When Yamaha designed that engine, their object was to out-Harley H-D. That's why the Load Star has pushrods and belt drive. Yamaha has built SOME great motors, but they also built some real Turds like the TX750 motor with the twin counterbalancers that were chain driven. After the chains would stretch, the lobes on the balancers would change timing and they'd hit the crank which caused the cases to explode. Or the 500 two stroke motocrosser that wouldn't run right when it was brand new, before it hit the track for the first time. Or the Vision that you need to glue a quarter to the flap in the air box or it wouldn't run right. (the guy in the scrap yard told me to get rid of it as quick as I could while it was still running) As far as it being UGLY, it looks like the result of Godzilla Eats Mitsubishi Motors. |

Load Star -- LOL, thats a good one! and, of course Yammaha has had it's share of less than desireable scoots, like any manufacuturer (go drop 20 large on a new Gold Wing, wait for the frame to crack, and then get it welded?) 'sides, I really don't care what the red line is, if it moves fast enough, and quick enough, it can redline at 2000 for all I care (arguing redline is like arguing cylinders . .. guy I knew said his car was faster than another's because he had a 6 vs a 4, and, as everyone know, 6 beats 4! asked him if he'd ever heard of offenhauser) all that said, the bike in question is likely gonna be a Max replacement, point and shoot, starbucks kinda bike, from the looks of it . . . . . but, hey, I am often wrong, and am getting used to it ;-} |

I like it. Kinda mad max meets anime. It'll definitely draw attention! I don't believe it'll be a slouch either. I'm sure it'll be pretty darn quick. I was down at the local Kawiyamihonzuki shop the other day and saw this: Still love the v-max after all these years. Can any one name another bike that had a 20 year run with very little changes like the v-max? |

kawi concours comes to mind, but, yeah, Mr Max rocks, and there are some very tastey aftermarket things available from across the pond (the French seem particularly fond of Jerry Lewis and Max!) |

The MT-01 is what happens when you let H-D's and R1's mate. If you want one, Dyna, let your bikes sleep together. |

It's also...yawn....been running the show circuit so long I can no longer recall where my collection of pictures posing before it is. A couple years of "testing the waters" before $$ were committed. The bike has balls, it's developers none. It *IS* a neat bike and does bring much Buell-funded engineering to the public via another source. The bad news is that it is generally displayed alongside the NAS which is pretty much what Buell has on the street touted as "the bike of the future". Go ahead kids....take your best shot at me. The MT-01, like I say is neat, but it's not anything that would make me tug at the wallet. |

no need for shots -- there are few companies jumping into much of anything that's not derivative as heck these days (Buell being an exception) . . . oh, and BMW is doing some cool stuff as well, althopugh it's mainly respins on engineering they pioneered (with the exception of the I4 that's making the rounds lately) -- I'll seriously consider a Beemer when I get old |

The Yamaha Warrior 1700cc revs to 5700. They found 1500 RPM. That's cool. Now it's almost as good as the Harley engine it's intended to compete with. The bike still looks like a refugee from a low budget Japanese horror movie. |

Crusty, that Yamaha Warrior stomps all over the Harleys in the qtr mile & top speed. Man, I think the mother ship has a Kool-Aid IV inserted in your vein. |
