I am getting the D&D shipped to me in the next couple of days from Dave ( thanks again ) I was wondering how to install it? Is it just a pull the old off and put the new on and ride or is there some install tips I need to know. Thanks for any help.

I just took my D&D off my bike. It was pretty simple.
The drummer website has a guide on removing the exhaust if you need reference material. Sorry, dont know their URL off hand

Do you have to set something called a TPS. I thought I read something about that. Since the XB12R has the flap in the exhaust are there any hard line that need removing? Thanks for the reply

Yes a dealer will have to adjust the Throttle Position Sensor (I assume thats what that is) with some machine they have. Here is a cut and paste from the archives on the cables -

Airbox,
Here's what ya do... Take off your muffler you will see the cable connected to the top of your muffler...Disconnect it. Then, open up your airbox and you will see the stepper motor disconnect the cable from that. Then you will have to fish the cable out from the bike. When you reinstall your drummer you'll not need the cable. Put your new ecm in located under your seat there's 2 plugs one for the stepper motor and one for plugging in your ecm. Keep your stepper motor plugged in to your new race ecm. It needs to be there so your engine light does not come on. Basically what I am saying..is the bike needs to believe that it is still there. It just won't have a cable connected to it any longer. If you decide to order one any one on this board that has piped a 12 would be able to help ya.

thanks dana
Hey airbox everything he said is correct. hell I forgot I have service manuals and all that good stuff here. as he said leave it plugged in. It won't mess with the ecm because all it does is tell the actuator to move the valve open and close and such. Since the valve is not involved it just doesn't matter.

just so you know the buell race kit and all the after market pipes work exactly the same in this area .

so there ya go. again thanks dana.

You don't need to reset the TPS unless you replace the ECM or it's due as part of regular maintenance.

Anyone know if the stock ECM can richen up enough with a D&D to avoid running lean?

So do I have to reset the TPS if I dont do the ecm and just the exhaust. Just curious if I should take it to a dealer to reset the TPS.

Nope, just ride it for about 10 miles at 3500 RPM or so for it to learn the new pipe.

Will my check engine light come on if I dont get the ecm. All I will be putting on is the D&D. So I was curious if the check engine light will come on since the cable for the butterfly will not be on.

It won't run better w/ TPS reset unless it's already off...

I think the check engine light will come on. I can't remember if the sensor for it is on the motor or the valve...

BadS1 when you say leave it plugged in do you mean the computer part or the cable that connects to the butterfly.

If your running the stock ECM take the cable out, leave the stepper motor plugged into your stock ECM.That way the stepper motor is still working but theres no cable on it.
