i finally got the bike to a drag strip last night and ran the bike down it. I have a 2001 M2L with mikuni 42mm carb, buell race intake, and buell supper trapp exhaust. I got out ran by a Victory Vegas Cruiser!!! Is there something wrong with my bike/carb or 98.63mph all that is there? | ||

I have never done an actual drag race. With that being said I did do a few pulls on a dyno drag race and was able to get my X1 to about 112mph. I would think with a bit more practice your M2 should be able to break 100mph. The Dyno drag race was pretty neat. Before you raced they had two people hold the sides of your bike while you sat on it with your feet up. Then they took the weight of you on your bike. I will admit my brother in law beat me all 3 pulls on his 750 raidian. I missed second gear twice. Once I got the hang of it I did ok. I watched some drunk moron burn out his clutch on this crappy chopper. I also was behind the dyno when another guys rear tire exploded.  | ||

The Victory Vegas may have some motor size, HP and torque advantages over a stock M2... I like the VV, nice looking bike with lots of potential. ...I like the M2 also! Twas my first Buell! | ||

The rear fender on the Vegas is way to big for the tire. If they would make the fender smaller or the rear tire wider it would look much better,IMHO | ||

the problem i had was coming off the line. I had a quicker reaction time but the front tire wanted to come up. He was able to hold it at half throttle and dump the clutch. at the 60 ft mark he had me by half a second. and that was pretty much the race. Guess i need a wheelie bar. As for the drag dyno... i had seen one of those in action and they looked like fun. I'm going to get back out to the strip later and do some more runs... it's only 10 dollars for the night. I'll let ya'll know how it goes. | ||

You need to post the numbers, 60ft, 1/8 etc. But you seem to know where the problem is. If you can't launch, you lose. 1/2 second at 60 feet could mean 8 or more tenths at the finish. If your still fighting to gain control of your bike at 60ft. your MPH will be way off as well. Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way. Good luck. Keep posting.  | ||

Those dyno drags are fun, but very unrealistic when it comes to the ET's. Johntman, besides the speed what was your ET? Hell with that trap speed I wouldnt think you even broke a 12. Maybe 13.5 or so? | ||

3 problems: wheelbase, wheelbase, and wheelbase. it is damn hard to launch a bike that short without wheeliebars. | ||

I ran my almost stock 99 S3 (ie w/thunderstorm heads) 12.24 @ 111 after a couple practice runs. Post a dyno chart with those mods. Were you running 1/4 or 1/8? I spanked a FZR with my best two runs (same guy) | ||

Hell with that trap speed I wouldnt think you even broke a 12. Maybe 13.5 or so? Dyna, I was being gracious by leaving that part out. My 96 Caprice ran 90 MPH the way it came off the showroom. Should run 93-94 now. And if it hit 14.5 I would be ecstatic. I gotta practice holeshots and run the Busa sometime.  | ||

the track i was at has timing at 60 ft 330 ft 1/8 mile 1000ft and 1/4 mile. My reaction time was .678 and his a .939. My time was a 13.478 @ 98.63 mph. he ran a 12.111 @ 108.12 on the victory in the 1/4. in the 1/8 i had 8.586 @81.98mph and the victory 7.616@ 88.00 mph It was my first time at the strip and i do plan on heading back very soon. I only got to run it once because it was crowded and a car blew up slinging oil everywhere. You just can't launch it very well. I also found my self finding the rev limiter between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd. that couldn't have helped the time any. I was having to slip the clutch almost all the way through 1st, and yes i did fill up the 5 gallon tank with fuel before i ran just to add some weight. | ||

Your 60 ft time dictates your run assuming everything goes well. It is easy to hit the rev limiter on a Buell. As you do this more you will be able to watch the tach and/or shift by sound. Don't be afraid to short shift the bike (shift about 500 RPM early) in 1st and 2nd until you get in some practice. Cruisers are far easier to launch because of their long wheelbase and weight. The Vegas, Warrior and V-Rods are exceptional drag racers. I believe all are capable of 11 sec. 1/4 miles. FWIW a Buell is capable of 11 sec times. The short wheelbase and no wheelie bar make it an extremely difficult bike to launch. Keep it up and post often! | ||

well the best part was the pre-run. if seconds were deducted for the coolest burn out... i won by far, and if a few seconds were deducted for the best looking then i even out ran the busas. | ||
