http://venus.13x.com/roadracingworld/scripts/NewsInsert.asp?insert=9843 Dang! Proton is doing okay it seems. I'm surprised. Good luck to them. Hope to see some mass produced MVs on the roads of East Texas. |

Definitely Indian. It was heart breaking to see that operation go under. Just when it was starting to develop beyond the Harley clone stage. Oh well. We still have Buell and Polaris/Victory. And what that new American/Korean deal. Real skeptical about that, but hopeful. I just don't think I'll ever get over my ill feelings towards the Koreans. Every time I flick on my Samsung home theater system I get indigestion. |

BOLOGNA, Italy, July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. (NYSEMH, Borsa Italiana S.p.A: DMH), a leading manufacturer of high performance motorcycles, has presented today an offer for the acquisition of the majority share of the Aprilia Group. This offer intends to solve the recent financial crisis of Aprilia in order to re-establish its role as a leader, built up over years of hard work and successes in the two-wheel market. |

If they run MV in way, shape or form like they do Lotus, I'd expect to see more MV's on the road at an ALMOST reasonable price. I love the fact that Proton is importing the Elise to the US market at a great price. Now they just need to bump up production so I can buy a nice, gentle used Elise in a few years |

This is absolutely GREAT news! For the next extinct american brand to be reborn, I'd vote for, in reverse order: Number 3 -- Cyclone! (as an M2 Owner, this is a no-brainer for me) Number 2 -- Thor (of course) Number 1 -- FLying Merkle! Ya gotta LOVE that name) |

My vote is for the RUPP Black Widow. I am trying to find out who owns the rights to it as we speak. |

Rupp -- funny, I book marked http://www.ruppbikes.com/ last week. Had a couple in my youth and was trying to remember what they looked like. 'Story of Mick Rupp' link on that page is interesting and might remind you of someone.

Rumor in the moto mags is that Ducati is only acquiring Aprilia to pick up the Moto-Guzzi outfit at a fair price, like what they originally bid for it. Then they'll dump Aprilia out to the first available buyer, probably Rotax, who makes their engines, and dump the scooter line off to Piaggio.}} edited by CurtyD on July 08, 2004 edited by CurtyD on July 08, 2004 |

Makes sense - the MG for the touring & Duc for the racers. Aprilla & Duc have way too much overlap... Could even retain Aprilla for the scooters as well and have a nice full lineup. In any case, as with all things Italian what you see and hear is many times light years from the relity behind the dealmaking. |
