No joke, I have never had a bike that I actually wore out the back tire. Is there a tread minimum or should I run it till it is bald?  | ||

them look like wear indicators to me the dunlops have little arrows on the sidewalls pointing to were the indicators show u could probly get a few hundred more miles on that before it starts slippin but yes soon ull need a new tire | ||

run it till its square and handles poorly, or threads show. those are my rules. yours looks fine, at least another thou out of her | ||

Those look like wear bars to me. I would say start now but take your time getting new tires. | ||

I'm with Misato on that one, after my next track day, my rear will be toast. Better to burn out than fade away. | ||

Well I was kinda leaning toward the big fiery Burnout myself. Thing is I wanna do a track day at the end of the summer and I don't want to have to buy a new set of tires then also... | ||

What track day Koz? And damn what size chicken strips you have on that tire? Been working on mine but between having a 190 rear & no curves around here I still have about 3/8" & its pissing me off. I need a B-trax or track day to get it all the way over. | ||

squid terms the edge of the tire that isnt scrubbed in by cornering. has more to do with tire profile and corner clearance on a bike than how good the rider is. cycle world referred to them as "not chicken strips, but rather evidence of a sensible rider." | ||

Koz...enjoy it as long as you have confidence in it. Just suggest that you be extra aware on wet surfaces. | ||

Chicken strips taste great with ranch style dressing. The other day I took my family out for Mexican food and two of the kids ordered chicken strips off the kids menu. I started ragging on them for being scaredy cats. Later the waitress brought me my beef fajitas. Of course, I had ordered chicken fajitas. | ||

Be aware that the wear indicators do not only indicate you are down to a certain tread depth but the compound of the rubber could well be different. All Tyres are not made of the same rubber compund from outside all the way through to the inside think of a tyre as a number of laminations. each layer has a differnt job to do be it traction, heat transfer or adhesion to core material. Dont end up on the ground proclaiming that you still had tread and why would the tyre just let go. It dont matter how good your engine, brakes or suspension are without those black doughnuts its just a stationary motor in a frame. | ||

you tell em Paul.... hay i put 9800 miles on my origonal rear tire on my x-1. but that was "0" tread in the center. If i would have hit any sort of wet surface i would prolly been on the ground. I agree w/ Misato, BURN THE SUCKA! if your worried about track day, don't, because you can get a good 8-9000 miles on those dunlops.. unless you are Spidy and love to do burnouts!! | ||

I got 7,800 on this tire. It is a 205 original stock 170. And yeah, I do a lot of highway miles. | ||

Wow! 7,800 miles sounds really great to me for a rear tire. On my X1 I got 1700 on the original 207. Replaced with 207 got 2000 on it. Replaced with 208 which now has 2000 and is getting close to needing replacement. And the front is the original equipment and is only now being replaced for first time at 5700 miles. Riding style: no burnouts, no wheelies, lots of accel out of turns, lots of winding roads. | ||

geese oh peeets CRW you must ride HARD AS ALL HELL. If i can put almost 10K on my rear tire, and i do 80 MPH 72 miles one way to work almost 4 times a week... HOW THE HECK DO YOU GO THROUGH A TIRE THAT FAST???? | ||

I can't believe the mileage you're getting out of that 205. I'd certainly change the tire before the upcoming track day (to something stickier), but I normally don't change my tires until I can almost see the air in them. I've never made it past 6000 miles on a 205, 207, or 208. | ||

speaking of tires, i knew mine was getting down there in tread, but i decided to ride to madison as opposed to drive (saves me 60 bucks in gas) so, now that im here, 200 miles from home, ive got cords showing. ive ridden on cords before, but never 80 mph freeway jamming, thats just an accident waiting to happen. Daves, what kinda tires do you have in stock (170), i only need a rear. gonna be around tomorrow? Ken ps- it was a 207 and i got 4k out of it. | ||

Damn my D207 looks just a bit worse and I've only got 2k miles on it!  At least my strips are a little bit smaller!  Say, we just leaned just as far as we needed too. I'd ride it longer but with a long ride coming up I gotta change them. Getting only 2k miles outa tires is kind of pricey | ||

Order new tire. Ride it till theres no more tread left. Then do the smoke show somewhere that you will get noticed. Post pictures. Put on new tire. |
