Interesting discussion here. I've always thought that some machines had "souls" and "personalities" and that's why I give some things names. I don't believe machines have souls in the religious sense, but I do believe that the sum total of a machine's characteristics and behaviors can display patterns that resemble personalities. I've always thought that when people described an inanimate object as "having character"--they were describing these patterns. Besides, it's just more fun for me to believe that "Betty" likes me as much as I like her! |

Do I hear denial - lol - the whole topic is just ment as fun! A common habit that people practice - for instance - I know Dyna named his Buell POS - lol - so I got him there - lol - often enough my bikes gets named b**ch when I'm working on either of them - getting into the psyc of it all and doing the label thing is just being silly - there are extreme examples of most everything out there if you look - lighten up guys - enjoy the moment - enjoy the ride! - This brought to you by psycobable101 - ;0) GT - JBOTDS! My Firebolt is Thelma My Duc Monster is Louise ...Two very bad (but fun loving) ladies. Lately, the ducati seemingly wants to be called "bride of satan" for some reason, it has picked up a really bad attitude. edited by bykergeek on June 25, 2004 |

When Ann found out a little about Buell, she named my bike Nori. Nori is iron spelled backward. |

Nori is also the seaweed that goes around Sushi!! LOL... I think there's also a little history here. The age of motorcycling was brought into being by vets returning from the war. Many of these vets were former Navy and Airmen; both known for naming inanimate objects, for luck. It's a fine tradition that many here are carrying on. I'm gonna get a mural of the White Fairy put on my XB and name "her" the same. |

My oldest S2 is "my baby", we've been together for almost 150,000 miles. My second S2 is "peaches" because I bought it in Atlanta. My S1W is "yeehaa!" because it's such a hoot to ride! So far, they don't seem to be jealous of each other... tripods forever! |

I thought Dyna's X1 was named Fluffy. You're not going to believe it but somebody did an interview with Fluffy about three years ago. I happened to find it on another web site. Q. How do you feel about partying? A. I absolutely love it. I'm a party animal! Q. How do you feel about riding? A. To be honest I've never been very enthusiastic about riding. I mean I can think of a lot better things to do with my time. Q. Like partying? A. (chuckles) Yes, like partying! Well, there you have it. No wonder Dyna had so much trouble with that bike! PS To really get the joke you need to read my post on the first page from Friday afternoon. |

Blake named his bike "Dubya". That's short for George W Bush. I find it odd that he picked a male name but who am I to judge? |

Miss Budweiser, Miss Madison, Memphis Belle.... some of the more famous ladies out there. Some names belong to a series: Spitfire, Mustang, Warhawk, Spirit, Lancer(aka The Bone), Hercules, Stormbird(Me262), Gustav(a variant of the Me109), Hyabusa, Blackbird, FatBoy, NightTrain, etc. Even the USAF is getting back into giving aircraft names again. More generic this time around though with "City of XYZ" Although this latest foray is more akin to a marketing thing. The giving of a name to an inanimate object is not silly, nor is it insane. It is a way of personalizing that object to its owner. In as much as some one would put custom paint/graphics on something. Aircrew give names to their aircraft, tank crews do so to their rides, the navy gives its ships the same honor. The navy does it with more regulations though. Even streets and roads get names, like "The Dragons Tail".

My S2 is known as 'Black Sunshine' (from the White Zombie song) , all the wide glide's I used to own got the moniker 'Midhnight Rider' (from the Allman Brothers' tune). The V-Rod is yet to be officially named. So far my ideas are limited to 'Silver Bullet', 'Velvet Sledgehammer', or 'Dark Cloud's Silver Lining'. Maybe I should ask some of my German colleagues for an appropriate (German) name for it. 1313 |

My ex signed "me" up for a massive online roleplaying game. I didn't play, she tended to use my "persona" when she wanted to tweak someones tail. Anyone killed by a Mutant Assassin named Fluffy, was beat by a girl. My GS1100 I called the "aluminum sledgehammer" |

You all see my XB's name every time I post. eVil Twin. When I'm on my bike, it is an extension of me and vice versa. I react to the bike, it reacts to me. It has a personality. It yells at me when I do something it doesn't like. I yell back. I twist the throttle and grin, and I think it does the same. Hence, it gets a name. It is my eVil Twin. Rich |
