fiancee's Blast = Baby XB9S = Escape Pod BMW yet unnamed race bike (considering "poor judgment") & pit bike yet unnamed (one in progress to bring it out of retirement and the other still in parts) |

Nope. I've never believed in naming mechanical things. Buell gave it the model name of M2 Cyclone and I just leave it at that. I usually just call it "my bike". I know a lot of people like to name their bikes and even their cars and that's cool. I have just never been interested in doing that. |

Very cute Most of my bikes have had names, sometimes to do with there model number, such as: Ex-race RD250LC - "The RapidDeath" (it was my first bike and everyone thought I'd kill myself on something with such evil porting work!) FT500 - "Fugly" GSXR750 - "Krusty" I also had a Charger called "Francine" named after the ZZTop song, but inspired by Stephen King's novel Christine - I swear that Charger was possessed... I finally pick up my first Buell tomorrow, no name yet... |

Wycked... A Honda CT70 minitrail. Not a restore, but a complete rebuild and powder coated black & yellow. (The CT70 fanatics might want to tar & feather me for not doing a "proper" restore!) The engine is done and on the bench. Was thinking of maybe a flyscreen off an XB and custom decals "XB70". Race bike is a retired 1987 Yamaha FZ600. If I get hooked will upgrade to a tuber. Other than the pit bike rebuild, this is a low dollar test to see if this is what I want to do. The pit bike is costing more than I thought it would... but not totally surprised! Pit bike is right... it has almost turned into a money pit for such a little thing! Once it is finished, I am sure a name will develop! |

Do a little search on Germanic/Norse mythology. He(Tyr) is the boldest of the gods, who inspires courage and heroism in battle. d**m if the S1 just doesn't do the same |

XB9R- "Betty" from Archie comics fame. She's loyal, reliable, playful, and really sexy. 95 Miata- "Eve" from Milton's Paradise Lost--an easily tempted temptress. |

I agree with M2me here - I've never given a bike or car a name (or a gender). I think it's kind of creepy when I hear someone refer to an inanimate object as "she" or "her". My bike is "my bike". |

You want to talk about creepy, check out this site that I somehow found a couple of weeks ago. Here is a sample quote: "I had learned just how much Dixie loves to ride & party.. It coulda been much, much worse.. but, she had taught me a lot.. and had shown me a helluva time! I would just have to learn how to keep up with her!" You're probably wondering, who the hell is Dixie? It's her bike! |

What I see here is psycological displacement. Man is the naming creature - the habit is ingrained in the species - so I'm sure a lot of people name their bikes, cars, etc. - even if they never admit it to another. As people will - some get carried away - your example. However, a fear/disliking of such a notion is just a person with their own seperation/emotional issues. A proper negitive response would be disinterest. Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

M2me, whoa that is creepy. Ha! Her old friend in the cabin lived 2 hours away, what an adventure she had riding all those miles in one day!! I think giving a bike a name is a little weird. I usually refer to mine as "my bike" or "my Buell". Mike. |

Looks like there are a couple of sides to this. Some people like to name their bikes and, as I said in my earlier post, that's cool. I don't really have a problem with it. It's practically a requirement for people to name their boats for example. The only worry I have is that it could be taken too far like in the link that I posted. I think it's best to remember that it's a mechanical thing. It's not a pet. It doesn't love to ride or party. It isn't capable of loving anything. I like my bike and enjoy riding it but I don't "love" my bike. |
