Well, I figure it's only fair. I took a picture of him last year riding a 9S in Waterloo. I haven't had the chance to ride a 04 R1 yet. Things got to be awesome! Dave |

I did not say it is the be all and end all of bikes and that folks should just stop trying to improve the breed! "Why? Because deep, deep down alot of us Buellers yearn for the performance of an R1 wrapped in Buell skin." Not sure I would want the performance of an R1 if it came wrapped in a Buell skin. I would have to ride it. The point I was making was to use a Vtwin motor like the VROD to keep the low end and smoother torque characteristics vs. 14K rpms. "Don't get me wrong I love my XB, but if Eric made a bike that had the #'s of a liter bike and the character of a Buell would I want one? Damn straight, I'd trade up in a heartbeat." I think you might be waiting a long time on that. } |

This was the most response I've ever had starting a thread. Many fine thoughts and I thank you all for the input. MY last word "ride to the edge but not beyond so we can all do this again together" on the road, on the track and on this fine forum. |

I guess I was thinking of those Jackasses who pull wheelies on public roads and get the local folks all in a lather. Makes it difficult to convince the citizens that most riders deserve respect and are decent folks in their own right. Yes, a wheelie on a side road with no one to get hurt would be fun indeed. Of course, the XB can do that right now, so perhaps I will go out and indulge later today. Thanks!

geez, sure are a lot of people bitching about my bitching about dynas bitching. all i asked was that he toned it down with the anti buell sentiment. all he had to say was, no. how come I do see guys like you being corrected for calling names and posting disrespecfully with regards to other people? find where i called someone a name or was corrected by a moderator. people are reading into things the way they want, myself included, and there are as many different perceptions into any given post as there are people reading it. im trying to wash my hands of this, without bitching, or offending anyone. I'm sure Dyna's still pretty stoked with his new R1, so what better place for him to rejoice, in the company of his BadWeB friends,... i misinterpreted things, and thats a damn good point. i was a little close minded, but the way i read into what he says about buells sways me to see things that way. he loves his bike, and thats great, i would love one too. so, ive realized i need to think more when i read his posts, as well as think more before i type. its hard to come away from being called a bitch, a whiner, a crybaby, and an , without going on the offensive, but i just want to try and clear things up. dyna has obviously taken a lot of what i had said personally, and thats a shame, cause its not what i meant to happen. in the future, i will try not to post in his threads, or take what he says about buells personally. have a good weekend |

Dyna, Don't want to burst your bubble or anything, but just wanted to let you know that here on the left coast - R1's are considered chick bikes. As in 90% of R1s are bought by chicks, the other 10% ride like them. When you gonna quit fooling around and get a real bike? Bcube

I was delayed this morning by yet another R1 terminal speed exercise. This one ended suddedenly thanks to an Armco corregated barrier. The bike was blocking the NB lane of the FDR. The body was blocking the SB lanes. Boy...those things ARE fast. Someone please explain to me why a person needs a 170MPH bike in NYC? |

Someone please explain to me why a person needs a 170MPH bike in NYC? Nobody needs anything, its a want. As far as deaths on bikes go, the last 3 here in my town have been in this order. #1. M2 cyclone....car pulled out in front of rider #2. XB9R..single rider accident, ran into a telephone pole #3. Kawi Ninja..Rider doing over 120 mph & locked up the brakes, slid under a car & was decapitated. Point being, you can become just as dead on a 75 hp bike as you can on a 150 hp one. Its not the bike, but rather the rider. |

BTW...high speed is not required to cause death. Last year during the HD 100th, only 1 fatality was reported for the entire time...a remarkable happening considering the number of bikes here & seeing just how poorly a lot of them rode..anyways unfortunately the 1 death was a 10 yr old boy riding on the back of his dads Sporty. Dad didnt stop in time & ran into the back of a taxi, he wasnt going very fast at all & the boy was wearing a helmet, but he fell off & somehow died. |

Interesting Mitch Boehm editorial in the recent issue of Motorcyclist--he's recalling the effort by the insurance companies in the '70's that helped kill musclecars of that era and suggesting that today's hi-po scooters could suffer the same fate. Ironically, he calls on superbike riders to exercise some good judgment--and this comes from the editor of the American magazine that has, for the last 25 years or so demanded more performance from the manufacturers! r-t |

It was a combination of events that killed off the musclecars. Nixon in the whitehouse, loss of jobs, ongoing war, the gas crisis, as well as the insurance industry. |

But the best thing is todays muscelcars will runcircles around the old ones. Better handling, more comfort, better gas mileage, etc. And they are just as quick if not quicker in stock form. Quite a few of todays performance cars can run in the 12's on street tires, back then a lot of the so called muscle cars were mid 14 second cars at best. |

At least thats what the owners remember them as. I recall reading an issue of Musclecar mag a few years back & they took a completely stock 69 or 70 Boss 302. Even with decent tires that car was only in the 15's. Christ I had a V6 Daytona that could pull those numbers. |

I'm not sure Nixon and the war played much of a role, but without a doubt the first gas crisis and the insurance companies had a negative impact on the performance of the muscle cars of the era. And you're dead on about the old cars vs. the new ones! "The older we get, the faster we were" I also enjoy the fact that the first scheduled "tune-up" service on my new Suburban comes at 100,000 miles! The new stuff is definitely light-years ahead of the old in terms of longevity as well as performance. Having said all that, I'd still like to have a small-block '69 Camaro... r-t |

I think most of us would love to have one of the old musclecars as a weekend toy. But right now im looking at the new 2005 Mustang & its sweet looking. Has the look of the 65-68 years, but modern performance. |
