Gonna put my race ecm on the bike this Sat. Looks straight forward. Grey to Grey... Black to Black. What is the connection in the middle of those two connectors, the ground? Also later on I will be putting on a Drummer pipe, does the Race ECM automatically not allow the check engine light to come on since the inter active exhaust is no longer connected or is that the middle connection on the race ecm? Tatsu you don't want to put that ECM in until you have the pipe and filter in.In order for the Ecm to work your tps has to be set.So if you put it in your bike will not run properly |

And no the check light will not come on. with the race ECM.What you want to do is put your pipe and filter in then ride to your dealer and in the parking lot put the ECM in.It will only take a couple minutes to do then have them reset your TPS. |

bring a 7/16 end wrench, swapping ecm is 4 minute job. by the way, my race ecm ran without tps reset, just a little rough and choppy down low. any speed over 65 mph it was just fine. |

That's what I was wondering ... 4 minutes ??? I installed my race ecm without a tps reset. I was lucky, it's running fine. I'm on shaky ground, I know, but IMO, you don't need to put on the airfilter and pipe before you put on the ecm. The ecm couldn't care less about the air filter or pipe. It has a more agressive ignition curve and the A/F value is somewhere below 14:1 instead of around 14.6:1. If you switch airfilter and pipe after you put on the ecm and have the tps reset, the ecm will need to relearn some stuff (AFV) which is done in a 10 minute ride. This does not affect the tps value. I would think it's a common mistake that replacing airfilter and/or muffler requires a tps reset. This is not the case IMO. It does require the ecm to relearn and change the Adaptive Fuel Value. Once the tps is set, it's fine until wear has changed the resistance of the sensor beyond it's boundaries OR massive backfire has put it off. If I were you, I would put on the ecm, shortwire pins 1&2 on the datalink connector and check the engine management light for codes. The full procedure is in your service manual. If you get code 11 the tps definitely needs a reset. This is what I did. No codes, so I took it out for a spin. It wouldn't idle at first but after a few minutes' ride it ran just fine. I later installed a k&n and 12 airbox with drummer. I noticed it ran a little lean, but again after a few minutes ride it ran much better. Just my 2 cents. Please correct me if you think I'm wrong. Mine fouled a plug right away and no you cannot put a ECM in before you put the filter and pipe on.Your stock muffler is designed to work with that muffler because of the exhaust valve in it.Put the race Ecm in and it will not control the valve.Your bike would most likely run crappy. |

My fault. I forgot about the valve in the 12 muffler. Sorry 'bout that. Your stock muffler ecm is designed to work with that muffler ... correct?
