As promised, a press release for the trip: Alex Prior (717) 634-6118 awprior@yahoo.com 5-28-04 The Ride Across North America to Benefit the American Cancer Society This summer, Alex Prior, a 23 year old college student at Kettering University in Flint MI, will be riding his Buell Cyclone across North America from San Diego, CA to St. John’s Newfoundland, to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. The trip will begin July 22nd in California, arriving two and a half weeks later in Newfoundland. “The whole idea of this trip started when I learned that an alumni member of my fraternity, Matt Ware, was diagnosed with brain cancer. My friend, Matt Ware, has been a big influence in my life, while at school and as he battles his cancer. His enthusiasm for life and positive attitude throughout his battle is very inspiring. I thought about a lot of different ways to raise money for the American Cancer Society in support of Matt, and decided that this ride was the best way to do it, since it’s not something that is done everyday”, said Alex, the president of the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter at Kettering. “So far the trip has received overwhelming support, but more donations are still needed” says Alex. He can be contacted by the phone number or email address above for more information about the trip, and ways to make donations. Funds raised by the Ride Across North America support American Cancer Society services to patients and their families. Donations help to support services such as: transportation to outpatient appointments, school health programs, helping patients and families through support groups, and 24 hour access to cancer information via 1.800.ACS.2345 and www.cancer.org among other services throughout the area. The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.

Updates... I now have a Paypal account set up to handle payment for the patches as well as donations. The email address for the Paypal account is: awprior@yahoo.com. This is set up as a personal account, so money can only be sent from another bank account, credit cards can't be used.

All, The trip I'm doing is something that I believe will be a life changing thing. My friend, Matt, who I am dedicating this trip to, has been a huge influence in my life, before and after his diagnosis with cancer. His ongoing positive attitude throughout his battle with cancer is awesome. Every person you meet touches your heart in some way, and Matt has done so to me, many of his friends and those he have met throughout the past year, in so many ways. I urge everyone, in whatever way possible, to donate to this cause. A few dollars, cents, or whatever you may have will help Matt, the American Cancer Society, and help tell the world why Buellers are the greatest, most close knit bikers on the planet... Badweb has a TON of visitors each month... $5 for a patch and a few dollars for a donation can make a HUGE difference in someone's life. Thanks for your support, Alex

Ferris, That is awesome! Hope to meet them along the way. I'm sure whatever they have planned will look awesome! Matt is coming up this weekend for a little fiesta, a little less for him than the rest of us though (still can't enjoy brewskies yet). My twin sister is driving out from Buffalo too... I can't wait. We're down inside of a month and a half before kickoff... Alex

I had the opportunity to hang out with Matt (one the left) for a few hours this weekend at our annual Pikes Bash at our fraternity house. He'd got one heck of a scar on the side of his head from his surgery and is missing some hair, but doing great other than that. He is really looking forward to the trip. I'm hoping to have another friend drag him up to Newfie with me...

I talked to my parents this evening, there was a nice 1/3 page write up about the trip on page 2 or 3 of my local newspaper. I'll try to get a scan of it when I get a chance, they usually don't put the entire paper online. Jerry and his auctions are awesome, I think after those, we'll be around $2000, with the big stuff yet to come. Court, wanna come to Gettysburg Bike Week??? |

COOOOOOLNESS!!!! Just off the phone with Ferris. In one word he sums up Zion – “AWESOME!” AND, secondly awesome is the brandy new (“still smells like fresh pain”) Zion Harley-Davidson/Buell dealership where he just met with the general manager who has not only helped in blocking out a few rooms in Zion – it turns out July 24 is a state holiday and EVERY place has been booked solid for some time – but the GM indicates a contribution to the American Cancer Society in some form of assisting with the riders’ visit to Zion is highly likely. GO FERRIS!!!!

VERY TOO AWESOME!!!!!!! Ferris just met with the Las Vegas Harley-Davidson/Buell marketing/PR manager, Dawn. While Dawn cannot guarantee a contribution to the American Cancer Society/Ride Across America fund (we can appreciate the channels/process this must go through!) – a possible contribution is in the works through her efforts. Let’s hear it for Las Vegas Harley-Davidson/Buell!!!!!!!

Alex, stopping by Las Vegas H-D/Buell while you're in town would be a great idea. ask for Dawn Schmidt; she is their Marketing and Business Development Director. their address is 2605 S. Eastern Ave., phone # 702/431-8500, toll-free 877/571-7174. take the Sahara exit off the 15 and head east for two miles. turn right on Eastern, and they are on the right. i'll ping an e-mail your way and detail the RANE contribution i asked for. they have a formal process they go thru re: all charity requests, so it may take a few days before i know what their answer is. Ferris, I will definitely try to swing by there. It may be a bit tough, I'm flying in and we're not going to have a rental car (staying at the Pres. suite at the Aladdin), but I'll see what I can do. Glad to hear the trip went well, I believe you when you say that I'm not going to want to leave. Maybe I'll get done with the trip and just keep riding. Thanks for doing the recon, I guarantee it's going to be a memorable trip for all involved. I'll keep my eyes open for your email... Maybe I can have other dealerships that I swing by do the same thing. Now that finals are over, the real planning and scheming can begin... My parents have gotten a TON of phone calls so far about the article that was published in the local paper. I hope to spread the word in some of the other papers in my area. Thank you Badwebbers for your contributions, between the auctions and patches, we've gotten almost $1300 from the site! Alex edited by awprior on June 18, 2004 |

Alex, Are you still in IA or back home? If you're still around here I'll run over and we can compare notes. p.s. You should start posting a list of all of your sponsors. If I was buying a new outfit, Aerostich would definitely get a nod. |

Alex, any revisions to your itinerary? We have 2 of the KCMob who will be taking time off work to ride with you across the boring plains. St Louis SLABBER's. Why are you guys so quiet on this? Can you meet us in Hermann and escort Alex across the Missouri roads? |

Mike, I am currently in Michigan, for another day or so. then back to PA. Finals just got done, and I'm hanging out with my friends here for a few days. Aerostich definitely gets the nod, I bought a Roadcrafter from them about 5 months ago, awesome quality, and a pair of their Combat Touring Boots, also awesome quality. Andy donated a pair of GorTex gloves for the ride along the way... Thus far, they are the sponsor. I haven't had a ton of time to contact others, I've been busy finishing my thesis at work and doing class work... The nest month is free though. Next on the list is a tire donation. Anyone have a contact? Ferris has been working on the dealerships in the wet, I'll be working on the ones in the east. Tripper, The ininerary stands as is, assuming no problems. If I get somewhere early, I'll sit, if I get behind, I'm planning on making up the miles somehow. The next few days I'll flood the Storm Fronts with dates etc., and get all of that nailed down. I'll have a lot to post in the upcoming weeks... Alex |

Alex, I'll give you a call in the next couple of days (I finally found your number on a crumpled up piece of paper). Try Motorcycle Accessory Wharehouse. www.mawonline.com Several of us have been buying from them and they are good to work with. |
