In theory, the SS has similar ROEs to any American Citizens. Defense of self and others. There's an extra layer of legal protection from prosecution & Job protection, since they are sworn LEOs, but theoretically an extra layer of obligation, in the past. Court cases have ruled that police have No Obligation to protect anyone after multiple women were murdered by their abusive relationship partners despite court orders and asking the police to save their lives. So in the Post Clinton era ( iirc the dates, please correct me ) the "Obligation" is diluted to " it would be nice, but you can't be sued if you don't want to bother". But you're concerned with the practical, not the theory and morality. Let's go with the actual scenario. You're at the golf course and you see what looks like a rifle poking through the fence at you out of a bush. ( the real scenario ) You can shoot in self defense. You can & will also be prosecuted for discharge of a firearm ( if such local ordinance exists ) where a cop or SS would not. If, as actually happened, you miss, like the SS Agent did, and there was a rifle, camera, etc. left behind by the assassin wannabee, you might, depending upon the DA ( absolutely would with a Soros owned DA ) be prosecuted for reckless endangerment, while the SS guy won't. Between you, me, and our gods, it is a violation of weapon safety to not have a clear target. Weapon safety rules aren't a suicide pact, either. ( deja vu ) Personally, since the threat WAS real, and no one was hurt, I applaud your bravery, declare you lucky, and would buy you a refreshing drink. In alternative scenarios...
