https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2024/09/win ds-of-change-in-germany.php The "Form a government" aspect of French & German & others has pluses & minuses that we here don't have. I certainly don't suggest we copy this insanity, as we have plenty of our own, but I can see with this election the Great Danger in the system. Simply, if you have a "not a commie so we call them Far Right Evil" party that gains a sizable minority, and isn't allowed to input by the others, who band together to exclude them, then if/when the people vote the outcast "Far Right" into a majority, who don't need to ally with anyone else, I'd expect revenge moves, and power consolidation, out of rational fear they will be subject to a coup. And consolidation of power into ONE party, as we've seen here, and Germany saw in the 1930s, can lead to a FDR, or a AH. We missed, this last election, a full One Party Rule under Joseph Robinette Biden*, since the House wasn't D. There'd have been no restraint on Change, or investigations into corruption, with One Party Rule. And JRB* sure isn't the smart and patriotic guy FDR was, for all his faults. |

I remember a few years ago, some reporter found a bunch of Karens to complain about big pickups. Of course, they had no problem with the mass imbalance with motorcycles and their riders. |

https://pjmedia.com/rick-moran/2024/09/08/new-cali fornia-law-will-require-cars-to-beep-when-travelin g-10-miles-over-the-speed-limit-n4932351 A Government Law to have your car annoy you if you speed just invites a run on mechanics who know how to unplug beepers. Or change the programming if the owner still wants a beeper to help them not hit things ( like the garage wall and stuff inside, pedestrians, etc. ) and other warnings. A Law requiring robo-governors? In Cali?! Insurance companies would love it, drivers, not so much. Consider that demanding a program to stop stolen cars, lock doors, and honk the horn in a pattern would seriously inconvenience the Cali Government's favored class. So you don't have to worry about that. But a demand that cops can stop YOUR car while you drive it is almost inevitable at this point. Absent an apocalyptic event that radically alters the State Government. Bless their hearts. |

https://instapundit.com/671359/ Brazil's Glorious Leader can't get Brazilians out for a parade? That's like Texans ignoring a BBQ, or Midwesterners skipping a potluck church lunch. Or Useful Idiots blowing off a chance to virtue signal (for rapists)! Unheard of. Ok, a bit sarcastic, the enthusiasm for the New Glorious Leader seems a bit muted, maybe because of threats of violence. By the government. Politics in South America can be a bit confusing, to an outsider. Most of my angle on the subject comes from looking at the history of technology. Not the modern stuff like telescope sites on various peaks and which European countries run them. That's interesting too, but doesn't reflect local tech needs and capacity. It's not the Peruvian government buying telescopes. Modern stuff like telegraph lines and Wi-Fi may reflect outside country's investment, the communication lines across continents is often driven by, for example, British Navy needs to pass news and offers to ships around the world. Pre satellites... So... Weapons... THOSE are big government purchases. See the South American Dreadnought race. The coastal nations when the natural resources were in demand and during economic booms, were able to spend big bucks on battleships to defend/attack each other. Most of the action was in the mountains where there were the border disputes themselves, but when Peru orders a battleship from England or the U.S., Then Chili needs one too, so they don't have their coastal cities bombarded. Big ships are long time build investments, and repeatedly there were changes in governments between orders and completion. Coups, revolutions, depressions, and wars often meant that the unfinished ships got sold elsewhere. ( It's not the usual history lesson flow, but it's more concrete evidence of change than digging into variations of political philosophy ) Ditto the rifles carried by the armies. The technical revolution from the American Civil War ( cartridge fire arms, repeaters ) and the many European wars, where having superior weapons made the difference between winning and losing, meant massive orders to upgrade around the turn of the 19-20th centuries. Again, you see changes in governments causing contracts cancelled, even shifted to other nations, even former enemies. More recently I look at jet fighter sales. Who buys Migs or.... |

One of my favorite examples from the South American Dreadnought Race is HMS Agincourt. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Agincourt_(1913) When WW1 was starting, the Brits took over some ships being built for foreign powers. With considerable variation in how friendly the take over was, from, "We'll give it back and pay for finishing it, ok?" to "We took it and bugger off!". Agincourt was the prime example of the latter. Originally being built for Brazil, the battleship was basically ordered as "We want what you sold our potential enemy, but better! With more guns!" & The builder simply stretched the original plans a bit and added a turret. Brazil runs out of money, and sells it, while under construction, to the Ottoman Empire, who got convinced in part because the builder agreed to upgrade it, another stretch, another turret. ( the stretch limo of warships ) Then the Brits took it, sending the waiting Ottoman crew home, probably because they knew the Ottomans were going to side with Germany, ( and stealing it, of course, was used as an excuse to do exactly that ) an event still argued about today. Went through 3 name changes in the process. Postscript on the story is at The Battle of Jutland, the biggest & last battle fleet action in history, ( WW2 battles were "bigger" but Jutland was the Last Fleet on Fleet fight ) when HMS Agincourt opened fire, many thought the ship had exploded, with basically 2 battleship's number of guns shooting at once. Quite the ending to a story about rubber prices and ambition. (Message edited by Aesquire on September 09, 2024) |

there were changes in governments between orders and completion The Vincent factory had a major order from the Argentine police and were near shipment, when Peron came to power. He canceled the order and it contributed to Vincent's closure in 1955. |

https://twitchy.com/amy-curtis/2024/09/18/chris-la rson-dont-like-gay-marriage-dont-have-one-post-n24 01118 Hey, I agree with a few points from the WI pervert! If you don't like marriage don't get married? Makes sense! Our viewpoints appear to differ on most everything else. If you don't like the lie that gender affirming care is, tell the truth about it. Gender Denying Mistreatment for adults. Criminal torture for minors. ( and I'm fine with adults getting fake teats if they want to ) We can just assume it runs downhill like California cliff properties in the rain after that. Except... I'm 200% onboard with not telling others how to run their lives. The extra 100% is I also feel free to tell those that do to enjoy sex with themselves and willing to actually defend myself and others against such people. By Any Means Necessary. I'm sure the Comrade understands. |
