Hi all, I need a new rectifier but don't want to end up buying a cheap Chinese job. Can anyone recommend a good brand, but not too expensive? Plenty on eBay, but seem unbranded or Chinese. Many thanks | ||

Maybe just go for a original one to make things easier!? I bought one of these some time ago https://www.ebay.com/itm/380704480069 But not far enough with the built to install it ,so can't tell if it was worth it | ||

I put one from roadstercycle on my Ulysses. Granted it's an xb,but pretty sure Jack has them for tubers too. Roadstercycle.com Or just get a stock one. I went with the roadstercycle one because it's more "universal", for future replacements. Retrofit now, plug and play later if needed. | ||

It's the stock one I'm after. They all look stock but from China. All the ones showing and saying they're for an S3t aren't the same as my old one. Mine has a bullet connector running alongside the two pin plug, also the earth connects via a small bolt onto the rectifier. The ones off the S2 look the same as mine. | ||

I just bought a Cycle Electric VR, it does not have threads on the back for the ground wire that comes out of the wiring harness with the oil pressure sensor. I would recommend staying away from this one and just get a stock VR from HD. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can make my Cycle Electric VR work. Do I need to attach the ground wire somehow? | ||

Yes, you need to attach the ground. Put a ring terminal on the wire, and put it over one of the mounting bolts. | ||

Thanks Ratbuell, The wire already has a ring terminal, and it doesnt fit over the posts that attach the regulator to the plate it rests on. The OEM regulator has a bolt and thread on the back where that wire usually goes, the new Cycle Electric regulator (which says its compatible with my model of Buell) does not. I want to use the CE regulator because it apparently does not dump extra load to the stator (which the OEM regulator is supposedly doing) but if I can't find a way to attach this now extra wire back to the frame I may return it and hit the stealership | ||

Go to harbor freight. Buy a pack of ring terminals. They come in various sizes, and you can get a big box of assorted sizes for like $12. Buy a pair of wire crimpers. Cut off the old ring terminal. Pick one that fits over the stud, and fits the gauge of wire. Strip back the wire, crimp on the new ring terminal. | ||

Thanks Ratbuell I appreciate the detailed walkthrough of the logical fix, all I was saying was it would be nice to not have to do this (I like to leave things unmolested when possible) but it seems like the best solution. Cheers! | ||

If you really wanted to leave things unmolested, you could always cut a short piece of steel, drill a hole in it big enough for the regulator bolt, then drill a smaller hole and bolt the new wire to it there. It's a couple extra steps, but if you really didn't want to cutting things, it would technically work(although I also agree with Ratbuell as far as the best option). |
