Falcon and the Winter Soldier (FWS) was overall well written. And it's proper comic book neutrality to not mention Parties in social commentary, just the causes and problems. Why alienate your audience? But I'm free to point out the historical facts on the fictional character who was a wartime hero, erased from history because he was an American Patriot who was a black male. FWS is set in a post-blip world ( SPOILERS! ) where half the people were magically disintegrated and 5 years later magically brought back. 5 years of social change, civilization collapse, ( half the truck drivers gone means ??? Half the farmers??? Doctors? ... ) and mass migration. The main events of FWS are set in Europe. Where the loss of productive workers made the marginal communities unviable and they moved to urban areas. ( not spelled out but obviously former Soviet slave states were intended to be the marginal communities, from the geography ) Then with the Avenger's restoration of half the people, the social problems of returning with no subjective time gap, & suddenly your home is lived in by strangers for Five Years! Seriously, while magic and fiction, that's really an actual world problem, just amplified and time compressed. Pointed metaphor. Marvel has long used "mutants" as anti racist metaphor. I'm not going to rant on with the Obama/Thanos aspect, Obama's Wars Mass "Refugee" invasion of Europe is the obvious corollary. But the part of FWS that got the toxic reaction was the Korean War Patriot who volunteered for the experimental recreation of the Captain America Supersoldier serum, lived, fought heroically, and was erased from history and screwed by his government. The racist, but unspecified government. And the VA, which is painfully Too Fracking Real World. As I said, Marvel writers ( until the Disney purchase of movie rights ) knew how to do social commentary without being overtly political. How to condemn slavery without specifying the real world Political Parties fighting over it. How to mock The Klan, without mentioning which Party formed, organized, and used The Klan as an illegal Action Arm. Ditto in FWS. But I'm not afraid of offending anyone, and I can point out the "Racist Government Deep State" created by FDR & inherited by Truman & Eisenhower, were the Bad Guys in that Korean War veteran's life. The same bureaucracy that denied Vietnam War veteran's medical care for Agent Orange poisoning, Iraq War veteran's medical care for poison gas exposure, and on into today's persecution of Jan 6 protesters... Context is important. | ||

I'm NOT qualified to diagnose a stroke, and thus go with current SOP. The President should always have far more qualified EMTs at hand to take care in emergencies. So it would be improper for me to say Joe* looks like I would call an ambulance pretty often on stage. Definitely not. Uh, huh. |
