I'll do a point by point rebuttal and confirmation on his "examples" , later but I point out now that #12 is a creation of His profession, defining homosexuality as a mental disorder, while "badness" is based on cultural norms and religious beliefs, which define "normal" and again, the shrink opinions reflect that. Thus his sneering disdain is misplaced in the 21st century, though there certainly are cultures that would murder him for being gay, and the same ones, murder him for his religious heritage, based on his name, alone. I'm not a reincarnation believer. ( feel free, you do you ) But in the Hard Choices world, I can speculate on past lives. I'm inspired by the late Barry Sadler's Casca ( The Immortal Mercenary ) series of novels. The plot was... The Roman soldier who killed Jesus on the cross, was cursed to be a loser thug until Jesus returned on Judgement Day. That evening he killed his non-com in a fight over a prostitute, and is sentenced to death by hard labor in the mines. But He's now sorta immortal. The whole series is Casca fighting on the Losing side in every war for 2000+ years. And getting killed in every nasty way people have come up with. But coming back. Well written with fair historic accuracy. The publisher tried to continue the series but the replacement writer wasn't very good. Ignore those later books. So... My Imaginary Past lives? I'd probably be a Ukrainian Nazi. Better than the Soviets, and that is such a slam on Stalin's Empire it's not funny at all. I'd probably be the guy at Masada that snuck out to feed worms to the goat the Romans sacrificed to Mars, & to read the entrails, thus striking a psychological blow, but doomed to watch all my friends suicide while I was helpless outside the fortress. Died cursing Custer for a sadistic fool. Moved to Atlantis because I liked Island living. And founder of a village in that great hot springs valley with the yellow rocks. What's that rumble? | ||
