Law will not go into effect until after Biden loses the next election  If I were president I would simply not sign it. If they poison pilled another bill with it, I would sign it then immediately miss the deadline, get in trouble, have standing, and sue to have it declared unconstitutional. Once so declared, I would submit my budget on time like I am supposed to. | ||

I believe you're right, Congress invites the President as a courtesy, while the law demands the Address so the basis is pure agitprop. Plus, even if it passes in the House, it's going to be a different bill in the Senate and thus a back & forth series of revision and reconciliation has to happen. Otoh, I can see the Democrat Party going for it as a weapon against Trump, or the unlikely event of a Republican win in the future. ( of course my Cyclone is not going to boost my ego... ) More importantly, that moral and intellectual superiority is, and has been for a few hundred years, been one of the attractions of Olde School Liberalism. When the American Bolsheviks stole the title "liberal", they were, as always, Lying. Being called a Socialist or Commie Scum, wasn't good for job advancement, and the Commie Scum already had a cultivated fundamental dishonesty in all things, ESPECIALLY self awareness and self esteem. So they stole the term for a believer in enlightened self interest. Which Socialists desperately despise. I also blame Rush and other pundits. ( for promoting the use of "liberal" for Commie Scum. ) But If you ignore today's intolerant monsters, and recall the 1970s, then "conservatives" were seen as generally dour, anti fun, boring, and intellectually dull. Might be wrong in multiple ways , but that was certainly the impression, especially for ignorant High School and College students who aspired to be hip, and wanted to get laid. By Barack Obama's college years, his Communist Party card was a get laid tool indeed. He even says so in his Ghost Written bio by Commie Scum Bill Ayers. I myself, transitioned from believing I was Conservative to embracing Olde School Liberalism in social matters, and conservative frugality in government spending. I was, indeed, that "socially liberal - fiscal conservative" person that very shortly thereafter was declared impossible! As the Commie Scum took over the Klan Party and Media and methodically erased all traces of rational liberalism from acceptability, while using the term for themselves with utter, deliberate dishonesty. So... Arrogant? Perhaps. Overly impressed with themselves? Sure. Me? A bit. But I point out my conservative side has every right to ego boosting thinking as well. Since I can plainly see racking up debt without limit or even the thought of paying it off, is the road to economic disaster, personal or governmental, I have every reason to think I'm smarter than Congresscritters like AOC who thinks we can just print more money. I could be wrong, but you'll have to convince me. ... ...and unlike Them, I can change my mind if offered a logical argument with facts... Another reason to feel a sense of perhaps prideful humility. The gist of the editorial is that he wanted to be one of the cool kids. And when the cool kids got ruined by Commie Scum, he was disappointed to lose his bragging rights.
