"Paradigm shift" is my current favorite. Oh, they happen! In bicycle racing, some guy noticed that aerodynamic drag, which goes up in a steep curve as you go faster, is mostly the bulk & position of the rider churning away at the pedals. So instead of making the rider bend at the waist to get less drag, he rotated the position of seat & crank so the rider was reclining. Smaller hole punched in air, faster bike. Won races. Got banned. ( Remember the Gurney Alligator? ) The ( now ) UCI, the race organization, wanted bicycles in racing to look like ones they were used to & could buy at a store. The same reason NASCAR for years wants race cars that at least vaguely look like ones you can buy. Sponsors! Sales! Don't start an arms race of increasingly expensive gear! So if you squint, a $12,000 carbon fiber racing bike looks like a bicycle. Still. So paradigm shift happens, but often gets suppressed to keep the status quo. Sometimes, rarely, a hard driving ( crazy ) guy will push against inertia, and you get a Tesla or SpaceX, but more often you get a Saturn, or that GM minivan with the plastic body that gets shut down when the company does not like the shift in sales away from their core products. In economics, you keep hearing that "everything is different now" ( almost true ) and "the old rules don't apply" ( sometimes, for a short time ) and "it's the end of the traditional cycles of business, a real paradigm shift! ". Then, almost inevitably, it turns out the basics, like if you raise prices, customers might switch brands, or inflation eats your paycheck, so you buy less, if possible, still apply in the real world. To be honest, the current rampant inflation isn't entirely Joe's* fault. Congress voted for spending more than they had. For decades, now. Sure, Obama did more damage in one year than most Prez's do in eight, ditto Joe*, but Bush and Trump signed overspending bills too. The difference is we can tolerate a certain degree of inflation if our pay raises close to the same. It's not ideal, but we deal. But dumping Trillion$ of dollars into the economy that the Federal Reserve literally just made up with no goods/labor/resources to back it up? So yeah, it's a long term pathological problem, inflation. And, yeah, Joe's* policies jacked it between 25-50% in just a few years, but it's a problem that will take serious work to fix. Vivek wanted the Thanos solution.  Fire half the government. That would help, absolutely, but then we have to deal with a surge of millions of suddenly unemployed people on the dole! As bad as Joe's* demographic warfare assault with illegal immigrants. Worse, most Federal employees are basically unemployable. Would YOU hire a fired Federal bureaucrat who has been swimming in the Woke Pool of unlimited grievance? | ||

And on the unemployable issue, I speak from bitter experience. I got a job at Redacted, where pay was good and benefits great. Everyone wanted to work there, or it's 2 local big rivals in Big Business. Unfortunately I got laid off in under a year, along with thousands of others when the Company made a bad guess on a new product. And Nobody wanted to hire ex-Redacted people, since they were spoiled lazy and obsolete. Which was a bit true for the guys who'd been there more than a decade. I didn't think it applied to me, since I hadn't been there in the easy years. But, same brush. Unemployed in that field for 2 years. There's some great employees in the government. And enough dead wood for a call to Gondor over interplanetary distance. | ||

I think the Rs are far more willing to eject alleged wrong doers than the Ds, who will defend anything for Party Loyalty, but that may just be political cowardice of the Rs. ( and utter willingness to embrace evil, for the Ds, but it might be just drug based mind control ) But Congresscritter Fetterman turned out to have a brain and far more moral courage than anyone expected. I'm sure I'll disagree with him on some other subjects, but on supporting Israel against real evil monsters, thumbs up. I have a buddy who watches centrist R friendly pundits more than I do and he's parroting the isolationist crowd. "Why spend money to protect a corrupt Ukraine when we could spend it on border security ?" Well, first, the current regime wouldn't spend it on border security, no matter the Lie of the day, they'll just enrich their donors, more. Second, it's worth A Lot to avoid Putin conquering Europe, and any ongoing corruption is obviously protected by, and enriches, the Biden* Crime Family. So if we fire him this fall, and a vindictive remnant of the Dept. Of Injustice, hypothetically stripped of political scum by a determined Executive branch, would have a field day prosecuting their former a-hole bosses, the Bidens* and digging into Ukrainian ologarchs, for fun and profit. A smart Zelenskyy would welcome the consolidation of power without the competing corruption, and might be willing to work with us on getting Ukraine at least to Pentagon levels of corruption. ( down to, ideally, but it might be up to, in which case I am wrong ) I totally understand isolationist sentiments. The Founders were right to be concerned. But twice last century we found the oceans are not big enough to protect us. Europe will wreck itself worse, without our help, arguably, and the rise of ambitious evil world domination cults from last century are really going into high gear, here and Europe. You can make a good argument against our involvement in WW1. But WW2 on it's been existential threat. If you want to write an alt-history novel with a smart Hitler who focused on an alliance/truce with the UK, ( which he wanted in 1939 ) consolidated his rule of western Europe and then hammered the Soviets into bloody ruin, becoming history's greatest hero of the 20th century, feel free, and please send me a copy to admire and criticize.  But in OUR timeline, it's murderous religious cults who won't stop until you're dead or enslaved. So I think it important to fight them. Hamas, Putin, Xi, the WEF, the Biden* Crime Family, Jeff Bezos, etc. | ||
