Gene therapy is in its infancy. I have high hopes |

SpaceX launch animation. I want a Missile Command version with this... https://instapundit.com/626229/ Gene therapy is promising and terrifying. I think we'll see Gattaca style discrimination before we get cures for diabetes and lupus, but the evolving tech does offer a paradigm shift from "incurable but with these wonder drugs you can live a normal-ish life" to " oh, yeah, we can fix that". It's the unexpected that bites you. Like the Fauci project ( speculation, not yet proven ) to use secret gene therapy to turn selected ethnic groups into mindless zealots who believe Rachel Maddow. ( so far it only works on white women ) I'm joking, of course. of course. |

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2024/01/hertz-is-sell ing-20000-used-evs-due-to-high-repair-costs/ I normally would not suggest a used rental car unless it is under warranty. Renters abuse cars often. But that's some sale on Teslas. |

https://instapundit.com/626322/ My endocrinologist was quite pleased when I treated my diabetes with diet, as I was told to try. They tell everyone to try, but very few actually do. I don't see any reason you can't do the same with a fad/cult/communist Plot diet like Vegan. It would just be harder to get enough protein and low enough carbs. The difference between the Rich Commie Mayor and me, is he promotes his Cult diet, and I don't have the public presence to promote the diet every decent hospital does. Oh, and he's a rich commie jerk. To be brutally honest, it is Far More hating needles than enlightened self control, that is responsible for my dietary changes. Surprised me even more than the Doctor that it worked so far. But you can see how I can't Virtue Signal my motivation the way the Rich commies do. |

Whole foods helps. No grain, no sugar. Stick to it and your insulin resistance will fade. Keto is quicker, and will stimulate weight loss, but I applaud anyone who kicks sugar and refined grain. |

Good advice. The Food Pyramid of my youth... 1950-70s is a recipe for Bad health. Diabetes, heart disease, believing in Global Warming, all sorts of bad. But they meant well. The Science is Never Settled. It just gets closer. https://adamascrossfit.com/unveiling-the-2023-food -pyramid/ This one still doesn't follow your advice, which is specially for diabetics&pre, but not bad generally. Looks like they just moved refined grains into the next level. The keto fans go for more fats & oils, ( than the pyramids ) as does the Mediterranean diet. And there's a new video on how older guys do better at endurance sports, because they don't store and burn carbs as well, but burn fat better. ( plus they don't burn out in the hills because they can't do the max effort stuff as well, so auto paced by necessity ) Of course we're talking ( 40-60s ) former racers now doing long runs or rides, like Centuries ( 100 mile ) or more. Who used to bonk, not eat enough calories while exercising, and run out of reserves when younger ( 20-30s ) I was never a big Century rider ( bicycles ) nor was the skinny guy who won races, and the Last Century I rode, last century, I was just 3 points of pain, ( saddle, grips ) at the end. I'm hoping that the comfort of the recumbent lounge chair type lets me go further, & so far, yep. ( plus utterly cheating with electric boost. ) Speaking of stupidity in mandating E-cars without building more power generation... https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2024/01/bab y-its-cold-outside.php I have to admit a used Tesla seems attractive, but I'd want it gone over by a factory type shop. I expect a repair is needed in any used car buy. Heck, you can go a Grand for premium tires on sporty cars. ( roughly $600 for winter tires! ) Would you buy a rental Tesla? Or is that stupid? |

I would have to do the same homework you recommend. My concern is the amount of time they spend on superchargers. There are Teslas out there with 300k miles with batteries that are at 90 percent capacity. You put 300k supercharger miles on one and it will be much less than that. I do not know what the numbers are. Tesla has been sued by a man who supercharged constantly and had his charging speed reduced. Tesla said they did it to protect his battery. I suspect that since people who rent cars are generally not near their homes, that the only charging option is a supercharger. Buyer beware. |

Regarding their new food pyramid. Whole grain is just as bad for you as refined grain. It all turns to sugar in your body. Emphasizing a plant based diet is a recipe for any number of neurological diseases. Your brain is made of EPA and DHA, which are not found in plants, and are only converted from plant based omega 3 fatty acids in very small quantities. Fruit contains fructose, which is only metabolized in the liver. That classifies it as a toxin. And it causes the same liver damage as alcohol. High blood sugar, like you would get from eating fruits and grains, causes glycation of amino acids and LDL. It is those glycated LDL particles that cause heart disease (statins do not reduce those, by the way, they only reduce healthy LDL). Glycation of brain cells causes Alzheimers disease and dementia. Those liver spots on old folks skin are actually advanced glycation endproducts. It is not confined to the skin, it happens throughout the body. Seed oil (there is no such thing as vegetable oil) wrecks your omega 3:6 balance which causes inflammatory diseases. They are also unstable and cause oxidation of LDL which, like glycation, renders them unfit for reabsorption by the liver. Natural stable animal fats are healthy. The unstable fats in extra virgin olive oil are fine, because they have never been heated. Never cook with olive oil. Oxidation results. OK, rant off. Needless to say, I disagree with their new and improved guidelines. So that food pyramid is BS too. |

Battery life... The 2 different high capacity battery systems I have are the Nickel metal hydride battery in my Toyota, which I have zero control over and aren't worried about. And the Lithium cells in my E-bikes which I charge myself. Top Gear did the best slam on the Prius with their rant on where the Nickel was mined ( asteroid strike in Canada ) shipped to China to be turned into a foam ( presumably to evade pollution rules ) then Japan to be put in a battery, then around the planet to be sold in the U.K. ... A pollution issue from shipping that is shared with broccoli, btw. That filthy Nickel metal mining and processing chain looks like a paradise of ecological and humanitarian cooperation, compared to today's Cobalt and Lithium mining & processing. Which I will attribute, not to the Elements, but rather to the location of the mines. If Cobalt was found in Canada or Wales, or even New York, the mining would be regulated and the messes cleaned up, by fairly well paid adults. ( probably with Union human rights/health protection ) Vs. African child slave labor and zero pollution give a damn. The accompanying Top Gear mileage race between a Prius driven flat out, followed leisurely around the track by a BMW M5, was a brilliant example of how driving style affects MPG. Running the Blue Ridge parkway with friends with a Yamaha 400 & a Honda Trail 90 ( with a Chinese pitbike 125cc replacement engine! ) showed my 1205cc Cyclone actually got better mileage than both! ( the 125 was close! But being flogged up & down the ridge cost it ) Obviously because I never needed to go much over a fast idle to keep up. ( and a very slow speed limit ) The mileage difference would have been worse if I'd set the pace, unlike the Top Gear stunt, because they would be pushing Harder, and the speed was limited unlike on a race track. Re: Lithium cells On my 14-ish and 20-ish Amp Hour batteries, I try to not let them get under 20% and not charge them overnight. The charge indicators just show "full" so I can't easily limit them to the 90% I'd prefer for longer life, or I would. I did go for the "smart" charger for the 52V system, but it's still just a box with a LED. ( and I can't swear is different from the cheaper stock one, except price ) Basically toy level tech vs. Tesla's computerized systems! |

Needless to say, I disagree with their new and improved guidelines. Yeah. There's a lot of studies on Roman food and drink. Pretty well documented in writing, so pretty easy research. The biggest ships in the world carried wheat from Egypt to Rome. The Supertankers of the time, sustaining a much larger population than traditional farming on the peninsula could support. Bread was the basic food for the poor, and that social/political fact is often ignored when it's not disrupted, like the trigger for the French Revolution. The "let them eat cake" misquote is quite famous! From a wheat flour shortage. The more often noted dietary irony of Rome is the lead poisoning problem that was worse for the rich! ( bone samples ) Because the poor had clay or wood drinking cups. And the wealthy had pewter, silver, & gold drinking vessels made with cheaper lead to stretch the expensive metals for a better profit and easier manufacturing. Wine, being acidic, leached heavy metals out of the cups and into the body. And there are written rants from 2000 years ago about the Roman peasants getting fat on their welfare system diets, that read like today's editorials, but with better literacy. |

https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/2024/01/15/rice-de i-instructor-teaches-afrochemistry-n4925491 DAng. The Amazing Randi had a huge cash prize for any proof of psychic powers. If your skin color affects chemistry, ( other than some delicate reactions where the room light reflected off you affects the results ) That's a Nobel Prize discovery! And if your thinking about injustice changes a chemical reaction? Randi would have loved to see proof of that. On a scale of "great pay on graduation" to "Do you want Fries with that?" I rank Racist Chemistry FAR below underwater basket weaving. You can at least make something real with the weaving course. Racist F$%^ Chemistry just makes you more stupid. |

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2024/01/20/climate-dri ven-noble-cause-corruption-goes-way-back/ As a Marxist plot it inherits the corruption and utter, pathological dishonesty of every Marxist plot. You don't need to blame the Masonic Lodge or the Illuminati. And you have to have noticed, unless you're brainwashed or Stupid, that the Rulers of the Marxist Cult Dictatorships have zero intentions of limiting CO2. Why would they? It's a scam they support to make you poor & enslaved, and then rich and your Ruler for life, & your death. It's really that simple. Sure, instead of buying the rope to hang us from us filthy Capitalists, we buy the wind turbines from them with investment in their factories and the pockets of their corrupt managers. Just like Orwell never anticipated we'd buy our own surveillance cameras, and willingly carry them 24/7 so the folk at Apple, Google, and the CCP can hear every heart beat, word, and see everything in your life. |

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2024/01/20/flying-fals ehoods-and-the-value-of-numbers/ There was a tv series, Spartacus, Blood & Sand. It was bloody, violent, sexy, with nudity, blood, lots of sweaty male muscular bodies, blood, more violence, sex, corruption, blood, betrayal, and pretty good CGI of bloody spectacles in the Arena. Did I mention GCI blood spray? ( the title is a clue ) Unfortunately the lead stud muffin passed away from cancer between season 1 & 2 so they replaced him and it plummeted in ratings. Heck, I blame that on not having Lucy Lawless in season 2! Did I mention nude Lucy? As a representation of pre-Christian Rome, it lacked some historical rigor, but accurately showed a hot Italy with lots of sweaty bodies and mention of a drought. Plus, you know, Xena. Lady's in great shape. Anywhoo... It was warmer 2000 years ago and there's a Lot of documentation. Roman writers may not have had Centigrade thermometers but they do mention when mountain lakes froze, ( ice was a big industry in Rome ) droughts & floods, and volcanoes. So it offends me to read lies about the climate from rich jerks who profit from panic, my taxes, and are dedicated to the Holy Cause of Marxist Rule. ( right after they become millionaires and cement their positions in the Ruling Elite. They think. ) There are few theories more comprehensively discredited than the Climate Cult's. And The Cult Actively suppresses actual science. It's a threat to the Lies. |
