Usually it's a list based upon subject matter, like "space naval battles" ( David Weber ) or "improbably competent heroes" ( Heinlein, Ringo, Fleming ) but equally probable are selections by preferences in characters, like "strong woman protagonists" ( Heinlein, Harmon, Rowling, Weber ) or "tech savvy rebels". ( Brown, Gibson, Dick ) Then there's this kind of list. Where the lister complains that the author Offends Them for either offering a viewpoint that contradicts the prejudices of the lister, or some real life biographical point, like being a Veteran or Political Activist. It requires an opinion of the lister, often easily determined by the complaints, to decide if the list is one of authors to seek out, or ignore. A lister who bases the dislike on, say, hypocrisy, pedophilia, or wife beating, might get some traction in the negative recommendations category. One who, like the person above, bases their bile on political fads and intolerance, plus the obvious tell of Jew Hatred and Reality Rejection, may indeed be a great list to go read. And I'm grateful to learn the lister is someone I now know is garbage. ( so I can save money and time by not going to their Sponsors ) It usually, in the Past, wasn't such obvious malice. Related, re: critics A local movie reviewer, ( long retired in the late '80s, iirc ) was pretty good at conventional dramas and comedies, but had no love for, or understanding of, science fiction. He simply didn't grasp the "what if?" nature of the genre, and was too narrow to appreciate fantasy/sci-fi settings/costuming as art. Though, to be fair, he wasn't turned off by most Period films. The kinda critic who might lavish praise on "Little Women" or "Dances with Wolves", but considered "Lord of the Rings" or " Star Wars" a waste of time. I found him a reliable source for movies to go see, if he hated them, IF it was sci-fi or fantasy. Contemporary comedy, otoh, his opinions were pretty good, straight. The trick is understanding the source, not always easy. That's when the critic acts in good faith, but prejudiced. Unlike the above link OP bile fountain of fad victim causes, who has no consistent moral core. That's easy. | ||

From what I have read, it is not dead, the owner simply revoked the license to publish under the name Sports Illustrated from the current publisher due to non payment of the license fee. I would imagine times are tough in print media, especially ones that have abandoned their core audience by putting out swimsuit editions full of fat women and by putting a fake woman on its cover.
