Predictably, the experiment to nudge an asteroid was a success, ( hey, the physics is basic ) and as many experiments do, showed us even more than some expected.
I'm sure some folk at NASA predicted the obvious result of rocks bouncing off an asteroid when it got smacked with a probe, since stuff just sitting on the surface is held down with a very tiny amount of gravity.
And it's very good to know that a tiny impact changes a ( metaphor, but accurate ) bullet flying through space into a "buck and ball" spread of rocks.
In the Bruce Willis movie, because the rock was detected late and the technology to reach it far away isn't built yet, they had to blow up the big piece of the shotgun blast of the gods to prevent total destruction. The movie doesn't get into the additional "minor" impacts like it leads off with, but...
My 2 concerns about kinetic doom are practical ( we need to build the infrastructure to put diverter rockets up early enough to nudge an asteroid aside in time ) and political. ( the government decides to conceal and deny onrushing Armageddon to prevent panic and hide they cut the funding to save the planet. Insert bad joke here about defense funding going to pronoun education)
Hillary says the Republicans who voted against the bill are responsible for the hot weather.
The bill passed.
By her own logic, the bill had no impact on the climate. Which makes sense, because wasting money on bullshit can have only one effect: Increasing the debt.
I'm going to slightly reluctantly agree that the world is overpopulated.
Too many people competing for finite resources. Not yet critical mass, but as you get to the edge of resources, any tiny glitch in production and distribution will cause massive famine, wars, and disaster.
That's been the reality, before the Green Revolution and industrial farming boosted crop production far above classical farming results.
The population was limited with brutal uncaring reality living in that edge of disaster state for the entire history of mankind. Population increases happened with good seasons ( yes, short term climate change has ALWAYS been real ) and in the wake of the mass slaughter of wars and famines and plagues. See also "horsemen of the apocalypse".
Boom, bust, lather rinse repeat blood and mass graves, then good times. Then bad again.
Before modern Western Civilization, the crops you grew this year had to last you until next fall's harvest. Or you die. No airplanes flying fresh fruit and vegetables from distant lands so you can have bananas and tomatoes all year round.
Probably the greatest invention of this last few thousand years is sewer systems.
Prog/Greenie/marxists have reversed civilization in places like San Francisco and Los Angeles back to pre medieval times, feces and bodies left in the streets to breed plagues. DELIBERATELY, and Fundamentally Dishonestly, in the name of compassion for the people they pretend to care about.
Ditto, the great Green Revolution that brought us highly productive farming is literally the ONLY reason there can be this many people alive today.
See Sri Lanka and the onrushing collapse of food production in Holland by EU decree. Fundamentally Dishonest Marxist destruction of civilization in progress, as we watch.
Billions Will Die. Horribly, plague follows famine as malnutrition lowers immune systems.
There isn't a logical difference between John Kerry and Tamerlane. Wreck the production of food to murder the people you want to take their property and wealth from.
Tamerlane was a conqueror of the classic type, using the techniques of Genghis Khan to expand his Empire,
One of Tamerlane's stated motivations was to restore the Mongol Empire to it's former "glory". Just like Vladimir Putin today. The more people murdered, the greater the reputation. The greater the terror, the easier the conquest.
The number of murdered people under the Mongol Empire ( 17 million + by Tamerlane's order alone per article above ) was incredible. But modern weapons and population growth make Tamerlane & the Entire Mongol Empire 's death count ( hundreds of millions total across Europe and Asia... Previous record! ) seem small against the Billion+ of Marxist religious conquest in the 20th century. ( Vladimir is in a similar, but time compressed, situation as Tamerlane in ruling a part of a shattered Empire in decline )
( the above section applies to the Ukraine War thread, but I'll leave it here. )
Seriously, the Elite Evil Organizations, the WEF, EU, the Watermelon factions of the D Party in the US, ( represented at conferences by J Kerry, treasonous billionaires ) etc. Have OPENLY said they want half the planet to die and are doing everything they can to be sure THEY survive to take the wealth of the planet for themselves.
I've never understood how many people can be straight out TOLD, "We are going to kill you", and not get it. Makes me wonder if most people on the planet are actually NPCs?
Search for Inner Monologue. Some hypothesize 25-50% of people don't think "to themselves".
The Good news is motorcycles are going to be the target after trucks and hot water heaters. We've got months, maybe even a few years, before an Executive Order demanding pollution and safety over regulation that will kill the motorcycle industry. First gasoline powered, of course. But I'm already seeing signs that E-cycles will be targeted on safety and Capitalist Consumer class envy grounds. ( how Dare You! kill the planet recharging your indulgent toy! )
The Bad news is as a shrinking minority, I doubt we have the political clout to resist the banning of our lifestyle.
I expect to see mass ride protests spun by Party Media as evil. "Violent biker thugs, fringe lunatics, buzzword evil slander!"
Oh, I could be wrong! But I think that is logical extrapolation from current trends.
Makes sense, a buddy thinks that the thousands of stolen/missing children are being sacrificed to Moloch, or Hillary or something. Some biblical thing...
I remember when people with infections diseases were discouraged from crossing international borders, back before Barack announced he wasn't going to enforce immigration laws.
I remember when people with infections diseases were discouraged from crossing international borders, back before Barack announced he wasn't going to enforce immigration laws.
Because now, if you try to enforce such a thing (say, to tray and stop the "Chy-na virus"), you are labeled RACIST and XEONOPHOBIC.
Anyone who denies the sky is falling should be hounded from public life, says Climate Czar Chicken Little.
I'm writing a thesis on evolution to submit for my Master's degree that proves that Eugenics shouldn't be based on race, but instead on protesters gluing themselves to roads. There's also a chapter on encouraging Tide Pod challenges.
In other news, sales of canned fermented fish are up as Europeans stock them in their cars to pour on road glued protesters.
This is fairly fringe stuff. But the date at which human habitation, above the hunter gatherer stage, just got pushed back nearly? 10,000? years by the discovery of multiple megalithic sites in Turkey. ( megalithic = big rocks moved to make a "temple" like Stonehenge, or housing like the Pueblo cliff dwellers )
btw, Archaeologists tend to lump everything they find that's not obviously an ax or comb into the category of "religious object". I assume so they don't seem stupid by using the more accurate phrase, BTFOM.
Personally, I'm not a believer in psychic or alien powers building ancient human structures, because I've done simple easy things like help build trebuchets, using logs, ropes, and enthusiastic college students, plus Boy Scout rope bridges, and historical camping.
The folk thousands of years ago weren't stupid, they just didn't have iPhones. Arguably, they were, on average, smarter, since without massive civilization, and the excess wealth to protect the stupid, natural selection was still in play. ( while the old, wise, folk did get some protection, so they could teach skills to the young. )
My suggestion is to be skeptical, but there's some probable truths here. It's absolutely true that the Science Establishment, especially in people studies, are rigid dogmatic defenders of the status quo.
That doesn't mean that every crackpot notion is a Forbidden Truth the Establishment ignores & denies. I'd guess only a tiny fraction of one percent fit that notion. For Every Einstein there's millions of credulous idiots.
I'm considering organizing a steam roller race for "oil protesters" to glue themselves in front of.
Oh, not to crush them under weighted steel rollers! Just get them immobilized so they can be left there while the crowds laugh and then attend, or avoid, a 24 hour K-pop marathon on the stadium grounds.
Better yet, a Grand Demolition Derby fake out to draw in the ego-glue showoffs, which would actually be a country music charity concert for the victims of tyranny.
Better than waterboarding.
Alternatively I've got ideas involving Roller Derby. A close friend is an avid player.
In ancient castles, there's often a dual purpose open area behind the first gate & wall. In peace time, it's a marketplace and safe space for entertainment and public life.
In war, it's a killing ground that invaders pour into after breaching the gate, where the defenders can shoot and throw various destruction on the most aggressive enemies.
Oh, a massive volcanic eruption that echoed around the world and dumped more hot water vapor into the upper atmosphere than even a Senate hearing, caused a climate effect?
